Spoke to Sky again today. After a 30 minute 'discussion' , the Sky operative finally told me I wasnt being offered the half price for 6 months because I still have an old sky digibox !! What a load of old tosh . The Manager as good as confirmed this.

So they have offered me a free installation HD box and a £10 credit, and I pay no extra on my monthly bill . Or a £40 credit.

We dont have a HD TV so wont benefit from the box as such. Recording to hard disk will be better than video I agree. We are then tied in to a 12 month contract , which isnt ideal.

    So my choices are :

1 - Have the free new box, then see if I get better offers (I guess they may not happen till our 12 mointh contract is due to expire ?)

2 - Take the £40 credit. (and then maybe give it a short while and see if can get a free box as well ?!)
  • We have the full package, films, sport and HD. Also our phone and broadband.

I just called Sky. Discussed cancelling. I've got no intention of cancelling but I lied and told them it was really expensive we need to save money and potentially cancel. He offered us 25% off our TV package. Switch our phone line to them from BT saving us even more money.

Total monthly saving £18 a month for 12 months. Better than nothing!

You should have told then you're not prepared to sign for a 12 month contract, try a non tied one or at least a 6 month one. Once people have got an offer on the TV that's the only thing you'll get. If you haggle for no contract you can phone again in two or three months to cancel again. As for too many people trying to get offers and most of you of course getting 6 months off because you all phoned at the same time you're gonna get poor deals when you try to renegotiate after 6 months.
  • ive just rang them and ive previoulsy had the 6 months for half price deal too - so i rang and said now that the price has gone back up to full i can longer afford it -and i would have to cancel - so she said they could offer me another 6 months half price! - no tie in contract etc - and because this months payment is in the system for the 16th they would not take a payment in feb! - result!

Ive just had my new sky hd box fitted, impressed doesnt even begin to cover it ! The improvements they've made since the sky+ box are brilliant, so much easier to use.

Well worth the effort, really glad I made the call :)

Another success story, although not quite as good as some. I have Sky World HD and pay £61/month. They offered half price for 6 months but excluding the HD subscription, so have it for £35.50. Better than nothing! :)

Can you all please stop posting to say youve got half price 6 months - its doing head my little head in ;-)

If anybody who has been given the half price for 6 months AND has an old sky box - please post .

Good point about haggling for no , or 6 month contract - tho I guess they will say its free box but must have 12 months.

Im also concerned they will mess up the Sky signal we currently have running upstairs - that the nice Sky man did a few years ago.
Is it just a case of swapping out the box when they install Sky + ?

when you say you have multiroom does that mean you can watch different things in different rooms? (I know probably sound like a right ninny to some people) also how many hours of telly can you tape on the plus box and how many channels can you tape/watch at the same time, sorry for all the questions but thanks so much for getting back to me.

    :-)

    HI

Yes it means we can all watch whatever channels we want, the same package that we have downstairs is available on all of the Multi room boxes, and you can watch what you want

I am not sure how much you can record, I know it is alot as my DH is always recording things and we have 5 pages of it in our menu!!

Also dont forget with Virgin you get ESPN for FREE whereas with Sky you pay extra for it!!

    I love a Bargain
  • I have old sky+ box. Just been given 6 months for half price, this includes the sports channels. Very happy with that. Have had a few issues with box, lady said she can only do one offer per day but if I was to call up on another day re any fault with box they would be happy to help. Was under impression that may well be free or reduced.
