I actually used to work for the Money Club, well in the call centre base in Birmingham. To be honest, the management in the office told us virtually nothing of the company, we just had a script to read from. After googling the company myself whilst I worked there, I came across all the bad reviews and asked the manager about them. Needless to say, he was reluctant to tell me anything and from that point on I purposely made sure I never signed anybody up as believed the company was intact a con. Few weed later and I got the sack. I know that "a job is a job" and all that but I have morals, and the thought of people having money taken from their account for something like this upset me.

I joined up for the £1 offer a month ago ...I hate cold callers, normally they get nowhere with me -but I work from home, was finding something boring and it was a distraction - bit of avoidance behaviour on my part......
Salesperson seemed nice enough and in the end I thought we all have to make a living (friend went to university to turn her life around - she did market research calls to pay her way) and maybe me signing up would count towards her commission/ performance targets...even though I would cancel it straight away
Signed up - cancelled DD using online banking as soon as they had taken the £1 and I could ...but membership DD due to be taken tomorrow - last opportunity to check it out - so just signed in ...
As others have said no major savings - first item in their 'wow' offers an almost £300 washing machine for £10 cheaper than my first google hit ...so 10 of those a year to cover my joining fee??? (moving soon and will need a lot of stuff - but still not worth while..)
Search using their price comparison for a lower price item (a tool) same hits as google and more expensive than same tool on a famous online retailer (with the same name as a big river )'s site...
Thought I'd e-mail them to tell them I'd cancelled it too - no mention of their e-mail address I can see in their literature and they have 'bug' on their site so can't find it there either ...hmmmm
Guess I should really call to tell them ...and so I guess I will get the hard sell when I do - thinking maybe that is a deliberate ploy???
Will keep an eye on my bank account too ...

Did just phone - an automated service - leave your details and membership will be cancelled ...waiting now to see what happens...any problems will leave an update here.
  • please do NOT be taken in by this rubbish. I received a phone call from this company and tried to explain that I dont buy anything new as i am a single mother and dont have funds to do so, it was explained to me that only £1 would be taken out of my bank account for admin purposes, I have just checked my bank account to find they have took £98 out of my account this was never mentioned AT ALL in phone conversation, also when I checked direct debit it was set to take £98 out every 2 weeks erm no, was straight onto my bank and hopefully getting it sorted DO NOT BE TAKEN IN BY THEIR CRAP !!!!!!!!!
  • I received a phone call from them just now. Despite this wholesale price idea seemed interesting, the lady on the phone was not able to addresse my concerns re the company's business model. I put her on hold to read this forum and thanks to all the contributors here, I will stay well clear from this shady company.
  • I was stopped by the representative of the the money club today. Handed over my details reluctantly. Really regretting it now. He said I get my membership card and pack in the post. Is there any way to nip this in the bud quickly or will I have to wait for membership. Really feel like an idiot and don't know how I fell for it.

He got me with the cheaper insurance offered line.
I really want to cancel, any advise on what my next move should be?

I was recently contacted by the Money Club. I think they must have got my number via one of the survey websites I use such as Maximiles or Inbox Pounds.

The guy on the phone was fairly pleasant. He went on about the 'benefits' of the club (I assume he was reading the script but he sounded quite natural).

I did give him some personal details such as my email etc. Once it reached the point that he asked for my bank details I said I would not give them on the phone. He got slightly stroppier but I said that I never do and that won't change. He still tried to make me change my mind so I put the phone down.

Whenever someone rings me saying that they are either 'going to save me money' or 'it's beneficial for me' I normally say that it's beneficial for them to remove my number from their database as I am registered with the TPS.

Although I didn't become the Money Club member/victim I am looking to discuss them with the Which magazine. Judging what I've read here, they should be reported to the Trading Standards. Anyone who has been conned by them and isn't getting anywhere with getting their money refunded absolutely must take them to the small claims court or speak to a consumer lawyer. Only then will they be stopped and clean up their act.

What is also rather dodgy about this company is the fact that there's no email contact on their website. I think you only get it when you become a member. However, I did manage to investigate and find an email contact and I emailed her my concerns and intentions to get the Trading Standards involved.
  • i got my bank statement today the money club took 98.00 out of my account, i did not set up a direct debt whith them.been to my bank and cancel the direct debt they told to get in touch whith them to get a refund.i phoned them asking for a refund. the women on the phone was not much help. she sent them a email asking for a refund.i don't if i will get it back?
  • Your bank MUST refund you for an incorrect direct debit.
