I got wrong footed by this lot last week. I got a 'welcome pack' through and decided I may aswell try them and see if they could save me money on two items I've been meaning to buy for my business. When they asked me what my best price was and where I'd found it I got told they wouldn't guarantee savings against the website in question because they were an internet company and their head office wasn't based in the UK!
So apparently you can only save money if you don't shop online.
And YES, I have called the bank and told them I refuse authorisation for the DD. I'll keep an eye out for the £98 sting in the tail for a good few months before I relax. Hopefully this'll teach me not to be such a pushover in future![STRIKE]DFD 22/7/14[/STRIKE]
OD £1200 ~ CC1 £1875 ~ CC2 £1275 ~ Tesco £4757 ~ Creation £235 ~ FIL £25750
DEBT @ 28/03/2018 = £35092

The Money Club is still calling!. I had a call today (24th January 2012) from 01753 441520, they said I could join for just £5 and which account do I want that taken from? (in the same sentence). Sounds like a scam to me, needless to say, I said I wasn't interested. I immediately came here and found that my decision was probably the right one. Thank you everyone for posting!!.
The address is Money Club House Slough Rd Slough SL3 9AU 01753 733733.0 -
I had this lot call me the other day as well. I'll take my hat off to them they can sure give the patter and are quite polite.
After 10 mins of speel and without even asking me if I wanted to take up the offer I was being asked my bank details!
When I told them that I wanted to do some research on them before I took them up on the offer they were quick to get off the phone.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!0 -
I had a call today from 01162 253841 (The Money Club) but sadly they rang off as i picked up the phone.
A couple of years ago, these people pestered me for 3 weeks and eventually i agreed to pay £1 for the brouchure and if i wanted full membership i could pay the other £98 within 28 days.
It took 29 days for the brochure to arrive and by then they had already taken the £98 from my account (without permission).
After many phone calls to them and Trading standards and 3 letters, i got nowhere.
Just let them call me again, i have a few things to say to them!!!!0 -

Had a phone call today from the money club on 01753 441520, although was given a different number that I could call them back on. Was offered a free trial for five pounds, not sure how that's free! Quickly hung up on me when I refused to give out my bank details over the phone, without knowing anything about them!
They were quite bullying and really didn't want to take no for an answer. So glad I avoided them after reading earlier comments here!0 -
My wife also received a call yesterday. Knew her first and second name. Kept calling her by first name (which she felt was over familiar and condescending). The £5/month offer was raised, but didn't get as far as asking for bank details. They gave up when my wife said that hubby uses MSE website a lot.0

Yeah I had that experience just now.
It may be that they offer a useful service, but I kind of doubt it. The thing that made me most suspicious was that the trial isn't free. Only a mug would pay even a small fee if they'd not at least heard of a service, read some testimonials, or similar.
The weird thing was how articulate and friendly the caller was. Makes me think they must sting each 'customer' for a fair few quid each to make it worth hiring vaguely sensible people.FACT.0 -
