Did your recipe have golden syrup in it?
if not, then ithe absence of syrup can make it too crumbly.
The other thing I have learned from trial and error is to only just slowly melt the butter - if you 'cook' it, they tend to crumble more - if it's done slowly and you take it off the heat just before it's completely melted, they seem to be more chewy.
HTH; 'tis a great excuse to make another batch

Did they shatter rather than fall to bits ? My flapjacks are hard and shatter if I overbake them even by a few mins. They tend to fall apart in a sticky mess if you underbake them. Flapjacks are easy to put together but timing is all I find.
Try adding or subtracting a couple of minutes baking time depending on the nature of your crumblesTrial and error will result in success eventually. Make a note in your recipe book of the best time. My flapjacks always came out perfect after 23 mins, but I've switched to bigger tins and have had to fiddle about with the time again - 26 mins seems to do the trick now.

Yes the recipe as far as i remember was 115g butter, same of caster sugar, 85g butter, melt these & add 220g oats. I melted the ingredients but turned the gas off just before the butter finished melting. I cooked them for 25 mins at 180 -
As you say I'll just have to eat the crumbs & make some more !

Thriftlady - we must've posted at the same time ! They crumbled rather than shattered so maybe next time I'll give them a few minutes more. I've just had a bowl of the crumbs with some ice cream - mmmmmm !0

Mine always fell apart until I worked out that I needed to be patient and let them go cold before removing them from the tin. They are always fine now.0

Perhaps your mix was too dry? Try reducing your oats by about ten or twenty grams.
I always melt my butter & bits in the microwave in a plastic bowl then tip in the oats. I find this much easier than fiddling about with the stove.0
