I love April 14th as a date, I've got a bit of a thing about even numbers and I think 14th of the 4th of 2012 is a lovely looking date :) (mad I know!). Plus my mum and dad and my sister and her husband both got married on 14th August so its quite nice using the same date in the month!

We are getting married at The Guildhall in Leicester (it's the old town hall, and now a museum) and our reception is going to be at a local village hall.

I worked some more on our invites today, although it resulted in a bit of a bridezilla moment as I couldn't get the wording right (despite spending two hours on it) and my blokey came and just wrote something straight away which was pretty perfect and I threw a little tantrum - shame on me :rotfl:

We get married on 28th, but 14th is my birthday x

I've just had my holiday form for next year given to me; I can officially request the wedding off work. How exciting! :)

Not done much else planning wise lately. We are going to Edinburgh for a long weekend in a few weeks to meet florists and bakers and the venue and photopgrapher so will be busy busy then. Once that's sorted almost everything will be done (i think!) :)
  • We got our rings!!!! So excited and we had a lovely day choosing them. Now to sort the photographer!
:T Looking forward to the future :T
  • Hi everyone, nice to see people around and about on our April thread - something makes me think we are all either to busy planning to post, or in denial about the amount of time left, like me :rotfl:

I've had a bit of a rubbish time money wise so I think it's distracted from my motivation, however I have sat and shown my mum my invite layouts this morning though and she really likes them, so now it's a case of printing and assembling 80 of them!

I did a spreadsheet this week as well with my estimated costs - that was scary! even though I overestimated on things, it's still a LOT more than I had planned! It gives me something to work with though :)
:) Trying to be good and watch the pennies, but guilty of falling off the wagon every so often! :p
  • Hiya

We have been having similar probs money wise too (been reading your other post) and that really affected my motivation, we had a nice albeit small amount saved up but we have had to spend most of it on the car which still isn't working! Budgeting is turning into a complete nightmare and i have about 4 estimates running at the momment. We are both doing loads of overtime but i think we will still be a little short come the day so may have to use the 0% credit card :(

Yesterday was the kick up the a**e we needed to get back on track with the planning, we have been in denial about how soon time is passing and now I'm back to full planning mode :j

    Today I am;
    going to sort the photographer
try and find BM dresses I actually like and in the right colour (ebay)
    practise icing the cake
practise making the favours (shortbread hearts)
enjoy eating the cake and bisuits before the diet begins (again) tomorrow
not worry too much about my back fat (was in denial i had any until I saw the photos from my sisters wedding last month  )

Have fun making your invites and enjoy every momment of it!
:T Looking forward to the future :T
  • Hi All,
I'd like to join all you lovely brides!! I'm getting married on 20th April 2012, and most things are sorted, with either deposits paid or paid in full.
I've given all my friends 'jobs' so have got the photography/video/readings/DJ and some other things sorted by them :)
Just wondered if anyone knows of anywhere I can get Goldfish bowls (for the table centrepieces) for a reasonable price? I don't mind hiring, but having researched them, it might be easier and cheaper in the long run to buy them and then sell them on Ebay after?
I need 10 inch bowls (25cm) and was hoping to pay no more than £5 each, (as I need 7 and am trying to save money!)
I'm in Worcestershire - anyone know of anywhere?

  • rock queen - glad I am not alone being in panic mode :) I have to say our 0% credit card got ordered on the weekend, it's not ideal, but it's my back up and has stopped me stressing slightly! How did the shortbread go? I admire you making your favours in something that'll need to made so close to the wedding! How many days before do you think you'll be able to make them?

Hi Annabananazulu welcome to April brides! I'm afraid I have no suggestions for the goldfish bowls as my sister wanted them for her wedding last year and gave up in the end because of cost. Fingers crossed you find some somewhere though! :)

I have made a load of my invites but have discovered I do not have enough paper! Which is rubbish because I got it from Hobbycraft and now it means another trip there, but it's 30 miles away - not ideal! I may order off the internet instead :)
:) Trying to be good and watch the pennies, but guilty of falling off the wagon every so often! :p
  • Miss Bolan - I reckon I will be able to make them a couple of days before the wedding and they should be ok. When I've made shortbread in the past it has lasted a couple of weeks. The practise run I did at the weekend turned out very well and taste lovely! I'm off work the week before aswell so any last minute problems I'm hoping to sort then so hopefully I will only have the cake and favours to do, and hopefully have a day to relax a bit! lol. By doing them myself I'm saving close to £400 :)

Its so easy to underestimate how much paper/ribbon you need, it will be easier to order off the internet and may work out cheaper and certainly less time consuming!

Anna - Hello and welcome! My sister had goldfish bowls but she hired them from a party company who also supplied the chair covers etc I have no idea where you can buy them I'm afraid. How about Ikea?

Hello Anna and welcome to the tread :)

Wilkinson have these (http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/bamboo/wilko-fish-bowl-vase-glass-clear/invt/0292895/?htxt=CqRsbJu%2FutV8PO2VUe7M5tbw0eF0%2BgiZGsyhRiL%2FA7J%2FD5ckTwx4gGk9NGxRQ2HoBcTxJmxJa8Ar%0AIS49VztZhg%3D%3D) but I have no idea what they are like so may be worth going in store to look first. I want fish bowls for my centre pieces but am just using the florists ones so its much easier.

We're hiring ours Anna from our florist. Are you having a florist? Perhaps you could hire? Ours are free as she is doing the flowers, just need to leave for her to collect on the Sunday from the venue
