April 2012 Brides and Grooms

Also ladies, I wondered what everyone's opinions are on hen nights? I really just want a giggle and a few drinks and no massive fuss, but I am really worried that my bridesmaids are going to plan something big.
We took one of my friends to Prague for her hen 'weekend' and my other friend is planning a trip to the canary islands (I will not be going to this as I can't afford it!). Don't get me wrong, that's what they wanted and we had/they will have a great time. But for me the whole hen thing has become a bit of an over the top extravaganza! I have tried to subtley hint at my friends that I don't want anything like this, but I am not sure it's working as one of my BMs has asked me to book 5 days off work a few months before the wedding next year!
I really really don't want to seem or be ungrateful, but the thought of people going to that time and expense makes me uncomfortable, and I'd be just as happy with something cheap and cheerful (i.e fancy dress, pub, dancing!)!
Does anyone know what they are doing?Trying to be good and watch the pennies, but guilty of falling off the wagon every so often!

Hi again, looks like you have all been busy since I last posted. I'm shocked that there hasn't been any bridezilla moments yet from any of you (well none have been posted anyway haha). I've been quite calm about things, I get the odd day were I think 'OMG, I have sooo much to do', then the day after I think as if i'm super organised.
Jem - I would love Jimmy Choos, what a bargain as well. How have you not been tempted to wear them yet? I'd be wearing them around the house until then, but I love shoes. I've been trying to get hold of my perfect pair for a few weeks if absolutely no luck. The company said they would be getting them in a few weeks ago, and then I haven't heard from them since. Messaged them on facebook today and they said they can't get them. Disappointed doesn't even describe. Wouldn't have minded so much if they had just told me no in the first place. Hey ho, another chance to go shoe shopping I suppose.
Miss Bolan - Your venue looks beautiful, it must have been great to see it how it will look on the day. It looks like the type of place that doesn't need much decoration because the room itself looks so beautiful. What date do you get married? Sorry if you have already posted it.
I agree with your thoughts on hen do's, I couldn't spend so much on a weekend away when I would much rather spend that money on the wedding or saving for things in the future. Maybe speak to your chief bridesmaid if you have one, and tell her exactly what you want. I think a good night out will be just as good as spending several hundred pounds on a hen do. Maybe you could do something a bit extra on top of the pub, such as a cocktail making class or burlesque dance class, obviously depending on where you are and kind of things your into. For my friend's hen do we hired a cottage out cheaply in the lakes as it was January, so there was deals galore. We spent the whole weekend playing random board games, drinking wine/ cocktails and sitting in the hot tub (came to £50 each for 9 of us, plus the food and drink we took).
I've nearly hit my target of getting major things organised in September. We went to visit a woman who makes wedding rings, and I have chosen the design I love. Just having a little think before I confirm, don't want to make the wrong choice.
Found a photographer who both my partner and I love, just need to pay the deposit (should be in the next few days). Has a style that we both like and seems a lovely, genuine guy. Found him through someone on MSE, so need to thank them once its all confirmed
Flowers are next on the to do list. I have created a list of florists I want to see, and will try to go to at least 3 so I can compare style, price etc.
I've got a count down on my phone for the wedding, it is currently 6 months, 15 days, 16 hours, 47 mins and 18 seconds away. Scary stuff lol.

Lollypop, My Mother has kidnapped them and put them in her loft! Doh! I may have to do a loft break and enter... That's pants they've not got back to you.
Tres cool about the count down! Eek! Where has time gone! We got engaged 12th Oct last year and seems literally 2 minutes ago!Married the lovely Mr P 28th April 2012. Little P born 29th Jan 20140 -

Hi Em, what is your bridesmaid's dress like? I've decided to attempt getting all the bridal party together to go bridesmaids dress shopping in the January sales (will probably be a nightmare but at least I'll still have a few months left if it all goes wrong!)
I have just picked up my paper for making my invites (had to get the shop to order it in, they didn't have it in store only on their website and I am not spending £3.25 on postage when there is a shop right near my work!).
I was wondering, is anyone on here borrowing money to pay for their wedding? (if you don't want to answer you don't have to). It's just I've been thinking about it, and I'm trying to do the whole wedding for under £2k, and with saving as much as physcially possible between now and then we'll have about £1500 saved before the wedding, and my mum and dad are going to give me some (although amounts haven't been discussed) but I am worried that there will be last minute things that won't fit in the budget and I was contemplating a small loan or an interest free credit card as a 'buffer' (not much, say £1k max). It's not that I want more debt, but I also don't want to be worrying about not having enough money as the big day approaches (I figure I'll have enough to panic about!). Does anyone think this is a terrible idea or are others considering/doing it?? xxTrying to be good and watch the pennies, but guilty of falling off the wagon every so often!

Hi, my BM's dress is this one from coast
http://www.coast-stores.com/SYMPHONY-MAXI-DRESS/Bridesmaid-Boutique/coast/fcp-product/2224721912
It's beautifulMuch more than I had intended to spend but I gave my BM pretty much free reign; we went shopping one day and all I said was it had to be Grecian to go with my dress. I didn't mind the colour or length or what as was near the early stages of planning. And this is the one she fell in love with and then she didn't really like any of the other (cheaper) ones she tried on. But I am only having one BM so not as bad as it could have been and she is buying her own shoes.
We are currently umming and arrhhing over our invites; would love the tea towel invites but they are so expensive can't seem to justify it.
In relation to borrowing money we are lucky as my FIL to be has very kindly offered to pay for the wedding so we aren't having to think about that side of it too much. feel a bit bad but he can afford it a lot more than us! :rotfl:0 -
Oh my goodness in 6 months time I will be a married woman! How exciting!0

Oh my goodness in 6 months time I will be a married woman! How exciting!
this is what I said to my other half this morning, in 6 months time it will all be over and we will be married! Very exciting (but also a big reminder of how much of a kick up the !!!! I need to get on with things!)
A day like today would be lovely weather wise for the weddingTrying to be good and watch the pennies, but guilty of falling off the wagon every so often!

I was saying how lovely a day like this would be too! You have the same date as me! Where are you getting married? We are getting married at Edinburgh Zoo and I can't wait!0

I love April 14th as a date, I've got a bit of a thing about even numbers and I think 14th of the 4th of 2012 is a lovely looking date
(mad I know!). Plus my mum and dad and my sister and her husband both got married on 14th August so its quite nice using the same date in the month!
We are getting married at The Guildhall in Leicester (it's the old town hall, and now a museum) and our reception is going to be at a local village hall.
I worked some more on our invites today, although it resulted in a bit of a bridezilla moment as I couldn't get the wording right (despite spending two hours on it) and my blokey came and just wrote something straight away which was pretty perfect and I threw a little tantrum - shame on me :rotfl:Trying to be good and watch the pennies, but guilty of falling off the wagon every so often!
