my daughters flower girl dress should also be here in a few days,
all the stresses are starting to disappear, im just waiting for something to crop up and start the stress all over again.

has anybody thought about wether to buy the grooms and other guys suits or are you all hiring them?

Oh I know that feeling, you think you're on top of things then something drags you down again! I am currently on top of things though as we booked our florist today :D I'm so glad I searched around a bit more as I found one that is offering what I want for about £100 cheaper than I have seen elsewhere - & it's not too good to be true it's because they work from home rather then having the overheads of running a shop! Very pleased with that, they were absolutely lovely too, so helpful & friendly :)

I think we're going to hire a suit for my OH & just ask the best men (yup, there's 2 of them!) & ushers etc to just wear a suit that they own, it's going to get very expensive otherwise! Depends how things pan out money-wise I guess.

  • Seems like everything is going well for everyone on here!
Unfortunately had a few probs witht he function room,
sorry in advance for the length but we've hit a brick wall!

Some of you on here know I had found a function room for the reception, I was very pleased as it's quite unusual as the dance for is sunken into the center and looks great!
Well received the booking form yesterday, not happy, not happy at all!
    Conditions of hire include:-
*You are not allowed to supply your own drink, we were going to have a welcome drink (pimms) but will need to change it to wine or champers as we are allowed them if we pay corkage!
*The kitchen facilities are NOT available for outside caterers in any circumstances. Well we have a caterer and she wants to use their kitchen so that'll be a great conversation! Then it states
*If you intend to supply catering for the functon, it is a condition of hire that you obtain a quote for your requirements from the Club Steward. What the hell does this mean, can I still do my own food or do I have to have them do it or what???? The whole reason for doing it ourselves is that our budget won't let us do it any other way!
*Payments are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances. (50% of the hire cost will be retained as a cancellation fee) and then it states that they want me to pay the entire amount of £140 now, not just a deposit!!!!
***AND finally but by far the worst (as long as I can still do my own food!) if it means what I think it does - The hire will not preclude the use of the function room by the general membership. Which in my interpretation means that those people that we don't invite eg. the horrible neighbours and those we really don't want to come, will be able to, effectively, gate-crash our wedding as long as they are members!!! Even though the room has a totally separate bar etc. so ****ed off
I would mind but it's only a normal village social club, not a hotel or anything. It's not like people are queueing up to use it!

Anyway, the main thing is if we can't do our own food, we won't have a venue cos we really can't afford it and as we haven't found any other function room that isn't a complete dive or that will let you do your own food, we may be cancelling the whole thing so we can save up a bit more!

I know I can't do anything until we've spoken to the club secretary but just feel like hiding our bedroom and crying!!!
Everything was going so well and we were just under budget, Ok, sorry again, ranting over! Got to go in there tomorrow and find out, have been working myself up for too long and probably blown it all out of proportion!

Awww Kaz, that sounds like a nightmare, hopefully you'll manage to sort stuff out when you talk to them... Some of the t&c sound very confusing!

On a exciting note for me, our invitations arrived today... They are fab! My friend has done a fantastic job :D All we have to do it the inserts, information pack brochure thing and reply slips and they're ready! :D Eeeeek! Exciting stuff :D (I did kinda run down stairs after they were delivered to open them!)

Oh Kaz *hugs* I think I would be in tears at that too!

If I were you I would definitely arrange to meet with someone & clarify those terms - I find it odd that they would insist on you using their caterer since they're a club rather than a big hotel or manor house! But I suppose the "wedding package" is the accepted norm these days - I am so glad we found somewhere that didn't do that & gave us more freedom.

Spoony - Glad your invites are looking fab, piccys please!

Thanks Pern, feeling a bit better today about it all, spoke to a friend of mine who's having her reception there in a few weeks and she says she is putting a curtain over the door to stop people knowing who's in there and coming in, and her hubbie 2be reckons that the speak to the club about food requirements is if you want to use their ovens etc. to warm stuff up as outside caterers can't use them and they need someone there with a food and hygene certificate!
We are still going down to check b4 we pay, obviously, but haven't been able to yet as h2b has been busy and I'm not going on my own! So let you know how it goes xx

Oh excellent that sounds a lot more promising - the curtain idea is brilliant & people will just think it's all part of the decoration :)

I am planning on putting a map in my invites but haven't really thought about how to do it yet...lol. Maybe just do a screen shot on google maps & crop it nicely & print onto the insert? (We're doing pocketfold invites so should have at least 3 inserts).

Any other suggestions would be great to hear!

ah kaz i hope you sort it all out.

i had to send my daughters dress back as it was too small:-(, so iv lost a little bit of money on the postage costs and now think i should have just paid £100 for the dress id seen in a shop.

spoony thats great, you'll have to show us them when they're all finished!!
  • Woohoo! Another thing ticked off my list...

    I have ordered (from Vistaprint)
    • wedding info brochures with hotels, map and directions, possible timings, menus and important contact details
    • R.S.V.P postcards - they just fill in their name, tick whether they're coming and note any dietary requirements then send it back with a stamp
    • thank you cards... Slowly but surely I'm ordering these when they're free
    • Hotels around the venue flyers for the evening guests so they know where they can stop
I just hope I'm happy with them once they arrive... I had to get the OH to sit with me and do them so it was what we both wanted... Although he was trying to make the situation fun by writing stuff like "Foodage" and for timings "Guests to get bums on seats" and I was getting a bit bridezilla-ish and commenting about how immature he was and how it was a very important day and we should be serious...

But do I hate it when he actually is... :rotfl:

Ah well, all ordered now and hopefully we're going to organise accommodation for family this week so we know they'll have a place to stay as it's the bank holiday weekend.

Oooh and I need a flickr account or something along those lines to show you my invites, but will sort it once I get my Vistaprint stuff and then you can see the rest :)

Hope everyone's well and that you're not showing signs of bridezilla just yet ;)
