    Hi Becca,

Where abouts are you based (sorry if this has been discussed before, I haven't read the whole thread). Maybe some of us could suggest somebody if we're in the same area.

Try looking and asking around as somebody may know someone who makes cakes or their may be someone who makes cakes as a hobby on the side who can make your dream cake for cheaper. x

This is a good idea, I was originally going with a local woman who was going to charge me around £150 for the cake (still cheaper than most professional places) Until my close friend said she'd make it as a gift! :T

I haven't read back through the thread so forgive me for asking, how far along are you in your planning? :)

So far I've ticked these off the list...
    • venue
    • registrar (deposit paid)
    • wedding dress (deposit paid)
    • 3 bridesmaids dresses (fourth is being TOO fussy!)
    • Photographer (deposit paid)
    • DJ (provisionally booked)
    • Cake maker (deposit paid)
    • Car (deposit paid)
    • Flowers (deposit paid)
    • Pre-provisionally booked hair & make up etc!
    • Have sorted out ring designs and I'm awaiting the price
I've found the shoes for the bridesmaids (just need to check sizes!) OH is looking at suits as some point within the next year (Lol, his mum's trying to get him motivated much to his annoyance!)

    Still loads to do tho!

I know, I just feel really upset as now we are not going to be able to have a professional cake made. I was fine with it at the start but then I found this lady through a friend who I had done a favour for and in return she was going to do our wedding cake at a reduced price. Now we are going to have to get M&S cake, which there is nothing wrong with, but I had my heart set on the lovely one we had designed. Oh well, onwards and upwards.

Oh Becca I'm so sorry, I know it's not much consolation but it could be worse & she could have told you on the day!!

Strawberry's post reminded me actually that we live fairly close to each other so I can recommend the lady we are planning to use, do you want me to pm you her details? She made our engagement cake back in 2010 (we have been trying to save for this for a while...lol, buying a house & getting married are way too pricey!) & it looked really good, I can dig out a pic if you'd like! She doesn't have this as a business I might add it's just something she does on the side, but her prices are amazing! I recommended her to a work friend of mine who got married last year & she was charged about £15 for a large, square tiered cake iced plainly as she only wanted to add fresh flowers on top for her decorations, but she's quite good at what she does. It's got to be worth enquiring about at least even if you decide against it.

Sorry this is a bit big! Not very good at this photo stuff :rotfl:

    Faceoff.jpg

So...here is my dress - what do you guys think?! Have I made the right call? You can't really see the beautiful embroidery it has in this pic :( Will have to take my camera next time I try it on. At least I don't look like a ghost with this colour though :D

Part of me is still worried it's not right, it's not what I imagined at all & I'm so scared people won't like it!

Also, what colours do you think will go with this as bridesmaid dresses? I was thinking purple but not sure what shade would be best. I'm also wondering if I'd be better off dying my hair darker again (medium brown probably?), I change my hair colour a lot & am worrying about what hair colour will suit the dress, rather then the other way round :rotfl:

Tips would be much appreciated please! I'm so frantic of looking a mess on the big day & I want to look back & think yes, I looked the best I could look!?action=view&current=Faceoff.jpg?action=view&current=Faceoff.jpg?action=view&current=Faceoff.jpg
