Hi Richie, dont think Worm was disagreing about the 1p overcharge.

Posted on this subject myself yesterday.

While u might get RR on a penny, it's not something I would go for.

The wider the margin the easier the R&R in my experience.

Had CS offered RR I would have taken.

But would rather walk away with refund rather than raise profile to high.

My one was 1p over per pound and 2p over per kilo, so I left it and came here to seek advice ( which I got).

Not going to chase rr over 1p when can find 20 or 30p differnce that has no defence frm CS apart from sloppy PI work.
Back to square one, no apg, no comment.

Just for info - the last 2 times I have visited Silverburn store there was a Tesco employee scanning every single game on the shelves one by one and checking them against the sel price. They also do not seem to put up any special offer posters etc. Think they got that one nailed now, maybe because it's their flagship store or maybe because it hasn't been opened long enough for the staff to get lazy.

Constantine? have we found your store?

I always go with 2 items, I also think that the size of the box matters as the TVs in boxes are large and people think they are big valuable. I got 2 of these R&R see post on the misprice thread. I have 2 kids so with Xmas coming it looks ok, chatted with the CS staff about presents for the kids etc.. softens their attitude on the R&R ;)

Thanks seth, wiill maybe point out I know someone who was once over charged in the same manner. I'm going to head down there soon and sort it out, if they won't do it for all 3, I'll go for taking one back.

I'm not letting them get away with it scott free, that is for sure!

Bookworm63 - Thanks for the reply. But I still have a proper nag in my head about premiditation when using the scanner to confirm a price. Surely it does not matter if they think a customer has prior knowledge as there are signs up around the checkouts and CS desk advising the public of their policy for all the world to see. Now if it was something that was only revealed to customers when they contacted HO because of a misprice, I could perhaps understand them getting shirty with a serial RnRer.

If RR is a get out for Tesco re trading standards,

Then does it follow that having scanners gets them off of not having clear pricing on shelves , as they are legally required to do?

I've often wondered the same..... shame there aren't many working though!
  • Yeh that is a real schoolboy error to use talk like that.

Got to play it cool and bring up "didnt I see something about if you overcharged me that I would get the item for free?"

By the way got a missprice in pc world today! its infectious!

Was after a bag for my new laptop. Liked the look of the Antler Tokyo bags £24.99

SEL showed £12.49 but in really small print an expiry date end sept.

Went to till to buy item, queried price when they tried to chrage me £25. the security guard then came with me to the shelves, saw that the SEL was old but said as goodwill gesture he would charge me the cheaper price!

Bit bizarre that the security guard was allowed to authorise something like this if you ask me but nevermind!

So are Tesco saying it is okay for some customers to use the scanners but not everyone! ie if you have found a mispriced item before - don't even think about using the scanner. Why have them in the first place? From what I read on here most do not work or have gone missing, so it does not seem to be that they are used as a cop-out for not labelling products with prices, my understanding was that you simply used them to check a price of something you wanted to clarify, isn't that what the old lady in the advert was doing when they first promoted them?

Speaking from experience, the main reason I got banned was because I was seen using the scanner, probably part of that is due to it being located in the DVD aisle so is probably under closer scrutiny, but after my meeting with the store manager, the one point he kept raising was that I had been watched on CCTV scanning stuff then putting some things back and buying others. He tried telling me he had security footage of me scanning a DVD then buying it knowing it was the wrong price.

The head of security was also in my meeting and he kept on about how good his CCTV system is, not knowing I have a bit of experience with CCTV myself, I knew it was VERY unlikely that he would be able to pick out exactly what DVD I scanned and what I bought, so if you must use the scanner, my advice is to pick up several items and mix them with the ones you want to scan, and dont scan all of the ones you pick up (if that makes sense) my arguement was that why would I scan an item that had a clear price marked on it? The only things I scanned were ones without prices!

I will be avoiding the scanners at all costs now unless its at a store I've not been to before and even then I would scan a few things to make it look good ;)

  • I have some of the Asda Vouchers, both my local Tesco's have advised they don't take them (and have never taken them). So how are people using them in Tesco's ?
Does it vary by store, checkout girl ?

Dont be so sure, the security guards in tescos can look at your clubcard details and look at your previous purchases etc. Even had one ok a return in one store (thought that was up to management if CS couldnt ok it)

But then, if you're like me, you shouldnt be giving them much to look at! ;)
