Someone mentioned earlier about the risk of labels being changed between your visit to a shelf and your eventual trip to CS. The PI contact explained to me that old labels are 'scanned off' the shelf, using some sort of device, and the new labels are 'scanned on'. From what I understood, the same goes for the large flappy hangers over the shelf, which boldly advertise a special offer. I didn't ask where the old labels go when they're removed from the shelf, however. But I don't think they're simply discarded.

The point is: the PI staff, at least, should have a record of when labels are changed and the price the old and new labels displayed. If you're absolutely certain (being an R&R fiend, you likely will be certain) that the price on the shelf has changed during your trip through the checkout, it might be worth asking if they can look back at the records. "I know I wasn't seeing things" etc. There's no guarantee that a member of staff couldn't just change the label without going through the scan-off-scan-on procedure, but I very much doubt that they would.

Spa is the expert on this. What you half-describe is the function PID deliver. An incorrect SEL is likely to be displayed because something has gone wrong with that process (thats one of the possibilities, anyway). There is pretty much no chance that any one from an other department would scan on/scan off a label when changing an incorrect SEL.

There are also other reasons for changing SEL's, the most common one being to change the cube (the indication on the SEL that shows how many facings a product should have). There is no routine that says these changed labels should be archieved.

That was in slagging off the insane marketing which sees prices change from £xx.97 to £xx.96 or .94.

Over charges due to these near-pointless changes frustrate me more than any other.

When you are the person replacing hundreds of sels a week 1p price changes are definitely frustrating.

how will it stop them? if its a legitimate overcharge there is nothing they can do about it. or am i missing something.

If you are just a customer who is overcharged once on a high price item the chances are that either the store or head office will refund you. If you are known to the store or head office as a serial r&rer you are likely to have difficulties getting r&r. This should not be the case but at the moment it seems to be.

Hi all I'm new to R&Ring only had a refund on 2 maths sets before :D

Anyway how often do you see the meat in tesco getting mispriced ?

And does anyone know how often tesco changes its prices for games and dvds etc?

I see. So it's possible that other departments have the ability/access to run fresh/correct labels for the shelf and not have to go through the scanning on and off? And they can manually change the prices for these labels? That pretty much puts paid to my suggestion then. :o

Seems like a huge risk on Tesco's part, though. I have visions of staff looking for something on the cheap and running a new label for R&R purposes. They'd likely end up getting caught, I suppose, since I gather one has to log in to the system to access those functions. So maybe not a risk, after all.

What surprises me is that the scanning-off/-on procedure isn't linked to price changes on the till system. What I mean is that a new price would only become active when a label had been scanned onto the shelf. I suppose there'd be many technicalities involved in implementing that, but it would certainly cut down on the instances where people are overcharged due to labels not getting put on the shelf in time for increases.

Ach, what do I know. In any case, I'm sure it's more fun this way for you R&Rers.

I don't think spa is bothering about much tonight apart from whether or not the fire brigade will turn up before all his LFC memorabilia burns to ashes. :rotfl:

I'm sure you're a fine human being samhan and I'll have occasion to thank you intentionally soon. Meat is a constant misprice.
    Apologies.
