Didn't feel comfortable arguing out a penny or two, what would you guys do ?

I must admit - I feel the same way! When I've r+r'ed; its been on misprices with a few quid difference, I wouldn't know what to say about a penny or two

I feel a bit cheeky when its only a penny or 2 but what I do is try to find another r&r with a £ or more difference and go for both at the same time. I just say that I noticed the penny overcharge after checking because I had been overcharged another item - but to be honest cs don't usually comment on whether its a penny or a £.

Constantine made a reference a while back to the "all important penny"

Think that is what he meant.

Agree, spotted two or three misprices in same store, went for the biggest difference as feel easier with that.

New excuse today: " The price has gone up since that was displayed"
Back to square one, no apg, no comment.

Is it safe to ask for some advice ?

Spotted a reasonable dinner R&R today in a small local.
Didn't see the big blue sign that reads :

" And when things don't add up, in the likley event we overcharge you, its free so long as you read MSE :)

So the misprice is 1p on the pound and 2p on the kilo ( 2.2 pounds = 1 kilo :)

Didn't feel comfortable arguing out a penny or two, what would you guys do ?

There must have been a bloke or a trout on the desk then mate, otherwise you would have been there "like a rat up a drainpipe"........(no encouragement being given here)

Seriously though.....Whats the difference....Your leading words could have been something akin to......"I'm sorry to bother you with this, as its such a small error.....but..."

I'm sure your charm would have got you your dinner for now

I was going to thank you purely for the lbs to kilo conversion....but decided not to.............lol
    Couponing....."every little hurts"

Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.

A penny is an overcharge just like a pound is an overcharge - tried and tested ;)

That was in slagging off the insane marketing which sees prices change from £xx.97 to £xx.96 or .94.

Over charges due to these near-pointless changes frustrate me more than any other.

  • Any-dang-way, I'll try to make this post useful.

I'm not about to go back over 100-odd pages to address/quote the person who raised this point but I was discussing general R&R issues with a person I know well, who works in PI (not naming names or the specific connection for anonymity's sake, in case I end up on an R&R spree ;)).

Someone mentioned earlier about the risk of labels being changed between your visit to a shelf and your eventual trip to CS. The PI contact explained to me that old labels are 'scanned off' the shelf, using some sort of device, and the new labels are 'scanned on'. From what I understood, the same goes for the large flappy hangers over the shelf, which boldly advertise a special offer. I didn't ask where the old labels go when they're removed from the shelf, however. But I don't think they're simply discarded.

The point is: the PI staff, at least, should have a record of when labels are changed and the price the old and new labels displayed. If you're absolutely certain (being an R&R fiend, you likely will be certain) that the price on the shelf has changed during your trip through the checkout, it might be worth asking if they can look back at the records. "I know I wasn't seeing things" etc. There's no guarantee that a member of staff couldn't just change the label without going through the scan-off-scan-on procedure, but I very much doubt that they would.

Hope that might be of use to you. I'm not a Tesco employee (I once worked on checkouts in my yoof, but certainly don't have any insider info as a result). So this info isn't 100% certified fact, but this is the understanding that I was left with after enquiring about the label changing procedure.

You're going for the small stuff most of the time, and it's simply not worth it if you really want the larger stuff. If you go for small stuff ALL the time, you will raise your profile in all the stores you frequent, which will stop you being able to R&R when Tesco mess up on a biggy.

how will it stop them? if its a legitimate overcharge there is nothing they can do about it. or am i missing something.

It is not unheard of for sels to disappear into the cs pocket, I am not saying this is common but it does happen.

I would think they keep something like a 13 week rolling file for price changes.
  • Mission Impossible 3. Massive poster by the roundabout at my local. Gone

    I guess it must have self-destructed :D:D:D
