The barcodes are different for different products...a barcode on atesco label looks something like this

    051022236-0001/123456789012/01

The first part ending in 22236-0001 is the Tesco product number and no information regarding R&R can be gleaned for this. The number ending 012 is the EAN (european article number) and is product specific. On variable weight items the numbers in the "901" positions will indicate the price that you will be charged at the checkout. The final two digits "01" are the label version number. The higher the version number the later the label so the highest version number (if more than 1 label is displayed) is generally the price that you will be charged.

    Hope this helps.

so would the barcode you used as an example scan at £9.01?

exactly...although this only applies to variable weight products such as some cheeses or most meats and not normal grocery products.

Cheers for that......do barcodes on other goods eg. books/games etc not give any price indications?

Visited 5 different counties today and 7 stores

    NO r+r anywhere :D

We hear of game mix up

From that point you have 2 days to hit as many stores as possible.
In the meantime visit your usual stores for titbits!

I think we all agree you've had a good run on the games but it had to end sometime

unfortunately not, the price of these items is not programmed into the barcode in the way that they are on the meat items.

Alana, are you now living in the UK or joining in from across the pond?

I understand from previous posts on this forum that UK fines on overpricing are substantially higher than in the US (£1K+) but not sure if it is reduced by offering this Price Promice - wouldn't surprise me if this is the case here too.

Great to have you on board, but I hope you're not on my patch or I'll have no chance of any R&Rs :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

UK penalties are £2k per item displayed, there is no negotiated reduced penalty for r&r, BUT the fact that r&r is in place has ensured that Tesco do not get fined even the £2k per item as cases are seldom pursued to fulfillment.

  • r+r on splinter cell for xbox 360 :)

Quite a hassle getting it, but got there in the end.

Saw SEL was 37.97 and checked on scanner - 39.96. So off to till and paid for shopping. Going outside to check receipt, I noticed I didn't have one, only the little money off type coupons! Back to till, girl said she must have given it to me, so now start to panic that I've lost it, but minute or two later she finds it.

Out of store again checking prices and guess what, I've been overcharged on xbox 360 game. Back in to customer services, they off course tried to give me the difference, but I politely pointed out their policy and left a happy man.

    Keep the faith :)
