mcdonag wrote:1st thing - Do not feel guilty because if you hadn't noticed the overcharge, then Tesco would be guily of ripping you off by taking more money from you than you were entitled.
2nd - You don't have to work the £/kg out, you just need to see that the £/kg on the product is higher than the £/kg on the Self Edge Label (SEL). If this is the case then when you buy it you will have been overcharged and qualify for a refund.
Lastly - Why take a DVD back for an exchange for an overpriced one? Why don't you just buy the overpriced one and keep both or exchange the other one for one that is not overpriced?
You don't have to leave the shop, either.
I suppose I felt guilty as I was aware of the overpricing on the item! but then I've shopped at Tesco for years and they've probably done me out of lots before!
on the £/kg, how do you ask them if you've been over charged though, surely you cant say I'm sure the £/kg is less than I paid if you dont know by how much, overwise why do they not say you should have queried it before buying (eg see the tag and compare with the packet??) sorry if i'm being a bit dumb here
I was hoping to combine two birds with one stone, so I dont keep going back to the the CS0 -

Had similar experience yesterday. Discount for phone didnt come off, had big argument with CS who said R and R doesn't apply to coupon offers??. Pointed out that it doesn't say that on the sign. Took her name, gave back all my shopping. Rang HO this evening and they agreed with CS, but 'logged the complaint'.

I am still flushed and shaking after being made to feel like a criminal. The manager refused to give me his name and kept calling me "Darlin' " in a very condesending manner. Eventually, I was passed over to customer services on their phone at the desk after arguing for nearly an hour on the shop floor with customers and staff watching and pointing at me. I then had a further hour expressing my point of view (arguing) with a series of people on the phone culminating with a very nasty Kevin K---y, who threatened to ban me from the store(this is my first r+r ever, by the way). "We will give you £2 for the difference and that's your lot", I was told throughout.
I have complained to Tranding Standards and they have told me that there are 2 potential criminal offences that they will investigate. Mispricing and misadvertising.
Where did I go wrong?
Any ideas?
The only thing I can say is that you were unlucky and was obviously shoddily treated, personally I would write a letter to Sir Terry outlining what took place today and the threats that have been made against you.
You must also send as much information to Sir Terry and inform him that you will taking your complaint to Trading Standards, give him 21 days to respond.0 -

Kelly's true colours are really starting to show now. This is the same man who categorically told me "we'd NEVER ban anyone for asking us to adhere to our policy" despite having threatened and executed a growing list of bans himself for this very reason. Either he's very scatty and forgetful, or he's a liar.
I don't think you did anything wrong. By the sounds of it you put up a good battle in the face of the Tesco's Finest thuggery and intimidation which is what they do best. Most of us have been there at one time or another, and it's a very upsetting experience for which you have my sympathy.
The fact that they've offered you the £2 difference is an admission that they've overcharged you, so the issue here is that they won't honour their "if things don't add up" policy on the wall.
Keep nagging Trading Standards and asking them what action they're taking. They're public servants who are paid for by your taxes and should be doing their utmost to investigate this very serious matter.
It may also be worth reminding the store and HO that they are the criminals, and any accusations or insinuations that you have acted with any kind of impropriety will be met with a claim for damages for defamation of character.0 -

If you buy some steak for example and the SEL states £4.00 per kg and the packet states £5.00 per kg then you don't need to work out how much you have been overcharged, you just know that you have been. If you bought a kilogram of steak then you will be charged £5.00 when it should be £4.00. You can say that you have been overcharged by £1.00 per kg.
If the CS try to work out exactly how much then they are trying it on to try to give you the difference, just say to them. "I have just noticed your refund policy, does that mean that I get a full refund?"
If they say that you should have noticed the overcharge before you paid then say that you did and thought that the till would automatically make the adjustment like it does on BOGOFF's and it didn't.
Please don't feel guilty because you knew that it was going to be an overcharge because Tesco know that is is an overcharge and they don't feel guilty about it as they are continually overcharging on thousands of products and fail to do anything about it.
At least you are doing something about it. You are highlighting the overcharge to Tesco so that they can stop overcharging other people. That's if they remove the SEL. If they do then you have stopped other people who can't afford much being overcharged. You are also helping Tesco by stopping them being reported to TS, saving them £2k per item fine per item overcharged. If they don't remove the sell, then they are clearly breaking the law and are happy to keep overcharging.
You are providing a service to Tesco and are saving them a lot of money.
That's how I justify it anyway.

I dont think hes scatty or forgetful so that only leaves one option!
He also told me they cannot see what you have bought by looking at your clubcard (which is total crap)Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Yes. He's also told me a number of similar things which turned out to be big whopping porky pies. He's also completely failed to respond to my written complaints regarding disgraceful treatment I recevied in a number of stores. Customer service really isn't his forte, is it?0 -

Lets all wave to Kevin everybody!!!
Hi Kevin!!!!
I wonder if he will quote this post back to me.....
I AM A LIAR AND HAVE NO INTENTION OF COMPLYING WITH OUR COMPANY POLICY, TRADING STANDARDS CAN KISS MY A**E!
Something tells me he probably wont.
My advice is if you phone head office, refuse to talk to Kevin kelly and if you are told he is the one in charge, ask to speak to his superior.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0
