Very Very LAZY pasta sauce yummy
Chop some bacon,
fry in small amount of olive oil with garlic ( can buy lazy garlic ), drain,
add tin of chopped tomatoes,
big dollop (2-3 teaspoons) of RED pesto (from Aldis yummy)
1/2 teaspoon of lazy chilli ( will be fairly hot, adjust to taste - or leave out.)
Cook through for a little while (5 mins) & its done.
Obviously if you've got time & can be bothered you could add onions, peppers or mushrooms, but this is so quick when you really don't feel like cooking it only takes as long as the pasta does to cook & prepare, (about 10 mins ) & not too many ingredients if you are doing a store cupboard challenge!Comping again - wins so far : 2 V festival tix, 2 NFL tix, 6 bottles of wine, personalised hand soap, Aussie miracle conditioner

One of my cheap and cheerful quick cook meals:
Arrabiata pasta
Put pasta onto boil in slightly salted water.
Meanwhile, fry a small chopped onion and a pinch of dried chilli flakes and dried oregano in a saucepan and add a tin of value chopped tomatoes. Bring to the boil then lower so it bubbles away happily until reduced and enriched.
Once the pasta is cooked, drain and tip sauce into the drained pasta saucepan and mix well.
You can get bags of pasta for about 70p which will serve four meals for two, the value tomatoes are usually 20p a tin and the chilli flakes/dried oregano last forever so a pinch of each means pennies.
You can have it on its own or use it as a base and add chopped chorizo (I buy from Lidls), prawns, shredded cooked chicken, bacon, etc. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Un believably lazy sauce: put an onion, garlic, tomatoes (in any form), tom puree, schwartz italian seasoning and worcestershire sauce into the food processor, whizz to desired consistancy and then cook gently in a pan until pasta is ready.
The most time consuming bit is cleaning the FP.
i'd forgotten about this, so I might do it soon.Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
As pasta is one of the cheapest, easiest, quickest and most filling of meals i would like to build up a store of (cheap) recipes for sauces.
The following is from the Cheapest Meals Ever thread, tried it last week and can't wait to have it again:
apple_mint's cheese and leek pasta:
Cheese and Leek pasta. Cook pasta, whilst cooking - in a separate pan cook a sliced leak and a few chopped mushrooms in about 1/2 inch of stock and some dried herbs. Add a tub of supermarket own brand soft cheese (philly type) about 45p. This turns the leek / mushroom mix into a cheese sauce. Drain pasta and stir in cheese sauce mix. This is a real favorate in our house, especially with vegetarian daughter and is very filling. Adapt portion sizes for more and add some chopped ham for those meat eaters who want a little more.

If you like salmon (I don't  ) then
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Smoked-Salmon-Vodka-Cream-Sauce/Detail.aspx
has the approval of six of our friends who tried it in November.
You can, of course, use your own discretion where the quantity of vodka is concerned :beer:You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -
Hi JoJob,
There's an older thread with some pasta sauce recipes so I've added your thread to it to keep all the recipes together.

JoJoB's tomato and marscapone sauce
I used to buy waitrose tomato and marscapone sauce at £1.99 per tub. Doh. Making it from scratch means you can make 5 tubs worth for a £1.40 - 28p per tub. It can be frozen.
1 tub Marscapone cheese - 98 p (lidl and tesco prices)
2 tins of chopped tomatoes (21p each - lidl)
1 clove of garlic
1/4 of an onion
Whizz up in processor.
Add whatever suitable herbs you have - I would have preferred basil but just had some dried thyme in my cupboard, so used that
2 tbsps of ketchup or tomato puree
Whizz up again, pour into freezerbags/containers and freeze, or use straight away.2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0 -

Forget buying from supermarket! make your own:-
Its easy & I can guarantee you that you will like it:-
1 Tin Chopped tomatoes
3 Tbsp Tomato puree
1 Small Onion
1 Pepper
1 Carrot
10 Mushrooms
1 Vegetable stock cube
125ml cold water
1 Clove garlic (optional)
Method :-
Slice onion, pepper, carrot into pieces. Cut mushrooms into quarters.
Transfer them into a medium pot. Add veg stock, cold water, tomato puree & chopped tomatoes & garlic(optional).
Stir the pot in medium heat or gas mark 6 for 20 minutes stirring occasionally.
After that transfer everything to a blender & blend coarsely.
Stir fry your mince meat (pork or beef or lamb).
Pour the sauce back into your cooking pot & add cooked mince meat stir another 5 minutes.
Your sauce is ready & all you have to do is serve it with your cooked spaghetti.

It does sound nice and I usually add peppers and mushrooms to ragu anyway, but by the time you've bought all those ingrediants probably would have cost the same a jar of ragu. (currently on offer BOGOF @ Tesco at £1.34) Thanks all the same.0
