Nibe Fighter 360p ashp costing me loads to run

Hi I had one of these installed in my new home last year and during the cold winter my electricity usage was between 80-120 units per day. The main problem we have identified was with the positioning of the ducting it was running through the cold space in the apex of the roof and against the sarking on the side of the roof. I took a photo of the roof clearly showing the path of the ducting because the frost had melted on the roof in these areas. With the wood burner on we were using a digital thermometer reading 32C at the room vent but by the time it got through to the machine it was only reading 18C. When we didn't have the wood burner on through the night we would wake up to a warning saying the exhaust air was below 16C and the immerser had kicked in. We can't get the installers to fix this because they say if the house was insulated as to the plan then the ducting would be within the insulation and the builder is not willing to take responsibility either. We are in the process of sorting this out ourselves (with the help of an engineering friend) but it will mean at least 3 holes in our nice new ceiling. My other major gripe is just how terrible the control panel is and the instructions are even worse. I feel annoyed because if this post and others like it were here last year we would have never have gone for this system. However I do have a neighbour who has the same system and keeps a book with very low meter readings. I'll let you how we get on once we have insulated the ducting properly.0

It seems we are all in the same boat and it comes down to the build quality "air permability" and the installers....Our duct work plans are completely different from that in the house....on the plans the duct work runs in the floor in the house it runs the entire length of the loft...unheated area !!!! so the gain from the landing and the bathroom is lost in winter and the boiler has to work harder...
Servicing the system is also not cheap ...we paid £300 for a company to give it a yearly check...£300!!!!! rather have a gas boiler at £90 a year...
we have a face book page called NIBE boiler problems ...
We have also noticed that the central heating system is full of magnetite (rust)....the installer have not flushed the system....lovely0 -
We now turn ours off during the day and night....we only switch it on in the morning7am to 10am after everyone has used the hot water so it can vent the home and regain the hot water then switch it off whilst out...when we return around 5pm we switch back on and then off when we go to bed....if we are in on the weekend we open the windows to vent the house and switch the machine off.
But this is in summer and dont know how it will work in winter.....0 -
Since the outdoor temp is falling at night time it is chilly here 10c last night 16c daytime and my electricity is costing me £47 prepayment in one week with solar pv and it is only just turning autumn and the noise of the unit is very bad,
Melin homes have still not even done anything everything is still the same after 1 year and 8 months,
We have had more anti-social behaviour AGAIN this time we had our front garden vandalized so now we have had to remove every hanging basket and all the flowers and shrubs, And leave it blank outside due to continues vandalism and damage caused by our neighbours there is now no point in telephone Melin is they do nothing and make it is our problem we are the problem I reported anti social behaviour to them over a week ago I have a police log and they still cannot be bothered to even call me back about it,

Hi..we have the same problems with the NIBEs...we all need to get together and complain to the MCS accediators...
there phone number is 0207 090 1082
We know of circa 120 peopel all with the same problems..high bills etc...
We run a face book page called NIBE BOILER PROBLEMS.......we have had 40,000 hits so far and we know NIBE and the contractors are looking at it...
We have recently sent 34 individual letters of formal letters of complaint to our housing association about the boilers...it may be that I visit the tenants at Melin homes also to see if we can help....
Get to gether in you community and for a group then it will be easier for all of us to kick the butts...0 -

No but they cost £300 to service which is £200 more expensive than a gas boiler...plus the NOX output is huge ...also most electricity plants burn gas to give electricity or coal...
the only peole that like these systems are the installers and the NIBe sales people0 -
What do you get for your "service".
[I have a 35 year old chest freezer in my shed. OK one of the hinges has lost its "stay up" piston; but otherwise it is still working. I try to remember to blow any dust out of the heat exchanger and put one drop of oil on the fan bearing once a year].0 -
I found your facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/NIBE-boiler-problems/109940359085493?sk=wall i will sign up to facebook asap i see other melin tenants are having problems this proves it is not only me,
Our Nibe is still the same it is still eating electric and is still noisy and lack of heat upstairs and nothing has been done we are on prepayment and the amount of electric we are using on the Nibe is unbelievable my housing association and cowboys r us micalul solar of cwmbran do not believe me and make me out to be the cause of the problem i can not even go to the melin head office any more as their head of customer service threatens to call the police on us,
You can come visit my home any time and I can show you how much electric I have to top up with to run the Nibe and come winter time I will not be able to afford to run it at all,
I called melin about two weeks ago to see if there is any update on fixing the snags like damaged doors and floors etc and any update on rehousing us and fixing the nibe but the will not return my calls at all also called today but nothing,
We also had a leak from the Nibe the other day,
Environmental health is coming back out to or home again next week,
Other things have got worse we had our car smash up by our neighbour and written off by the insurance company as it was so badly damaged and we had to call the police out as they hit our car and drove off and refused to give us any insurance info,
I did tell Melin months ago when the guy next door tried to ram us off the road about them using the place like a race track but they did not believe me,
So since we have lived here we have had two vehicles damaged with coffee stains over it and now we have one that is written off,
Also had garden vandalized again and still got a old man looking though my windows and hanging around our house when we go out he has had a anti-social behaviour warning from the police and he is still doing it and we are still having foul comments made any time we are outside our property ,0
