Just a update guys we now have moved over to a prepayment meter as our electricity bills are excessively high, nothing has changed regarding our situation A.S.B problems are still ongoing and and so are the high bills

If we are still here in the winter I cannot afford to put this heating system on electricity costs have just gone up by 10% and when we get temperatures of below 0 degrees when water freezes the under floor heating pipes are going to freeze and expand and pop and cause a big leak and melin homes can then sort this out and if any of our belongings get damaged they can pay for them so if we are still here in the winter they are going to be here weekly digging up the floor to try and fix the problems,

Also we are still withholding the rent until all the problems are sorted out,

Another update I have found out that someone in one of the apartments has gone over to a prepayment meter aswell as their bills are too high and I have spoke to other residents who have high bills aswell
But the apartments and the one 4bed house on the close get the feed in tariff to help with their bills as these heat pumps are using high amounts of electricity but we don’t

The noise of our nibe is still under investigation by environmental health and it is really affecting my hearing disability which Melin do not believe i have just because i can walk talk wipe my own a$$ wash myself and dress myself they dispute any one who has not got a visible physical disability which is disgusting and discrimination ,

And what else is discussing about melin homes they have not fix our problems of anti-social behavior, noise of the nibe, and cost of the nibe or rehoused us but as soon as i told they i am withholding rent they where up hear serving my with a seek postion letter lest then 19 hours after speaking to them now it is a shame then can not fix our problems that quick as they go looking for rent absolutely disgusting service,

well using 10 units a day now with my nibe fighter. Noise still getting on my nerves, dont know if its because im in a wooden frame house and its somehow exagerating the noise, a bit like the house is acting as some kind of vacumn, but all i hear is a constant humming, and i know its not my ears as housing association made me have a hearing test, and i cant hear the humming anywhere else, and i can feel it when im laying in bed.i thought this house was going to be really cheap to run , which is the reason i moved from a 4 bed house round the corner, to this brand new 2 bed, but things havnt turned out like i hoped, my water meter has been faulty since i moved in, the dial turns even when everything is switched off, so my water bills are higher then even my neighbour in her 4 bed house, still waiting for housing association to come up with a solution, my electrics burnt out last winter in the house, i had weeks of flashing lights, and the ha wouldnt listen to me, untill 1 night the whole lot burnt out, and the ha left me in the middle of winter , with no heating, or electrics, for the whole weekend, despite numerous phone calls. my nibe fighter is a nightmare in the winter house feels cold , but electric bill really high, i thought these systems were meant to save money on heating bills. And to top it all we have to pay a weekly service charge of 9 pounds, for doing a tiny piece of garden, and it hardly ever gets done, but ha say we still have to pay the charge what a waste of money, but every time i report it to housing officer, i just get sucked and sighed at, i think we have a clash of personalitys. ive looked at a couple of exchanges just to get out of this huge mistake i have made, but it was a really big decision to move in the first place, and the deciding factor was that it was only round the corner from where i was living, but i dont think i can afford to live here anymore.
  • hi ra, you sound really down in the dumps, i too have a hearing disability, so i hear things differently to other people, i am hearing a constant hum within my house, from the heating systems right along my street, but no one else can hear it, i think thats because i have no middle or higher hearing, so my lower hearing overcompensates, it drives me to distraction. personally i think you are doing the wrong thing withholding your rent, im sure because of all the issues you have had with your housing association, they would like nothing more then to have a reason to evict you, so they can wash their hands of you, if you take every thing through the right channels , untill you get to the housing ombusman, and keep a copy of every thing , you have far more chance of sorting this all out. You need to seperate the problems you are complaining about, and shelve the least inportant ones, so that you can concentrate on solutions to the ones that affect you most.this is all really time consuming, and wont be solved overnight, but if the ombusman thinks you have a valid case, he will force the housing association to put it right. The other option is to do an exchange with someone, yes it will be expensive to move again, but just think this time next year, you and your family could be happily settled in a new home, with none of these stressfull problems to worry about, but if you withold your rent now, this will not be an option for you, as you cannot exchange if you owe rent. good luck in what you decide. Oh and im sorry to sound thick, but what is this feed in tariff you spoke about in your last post, can anyone claim it .

I am now dealing with the CEO of melin homes ,

All we want is a heating system that is economical to run and a system that is not noisy and that it heats upstairs properly and no more harassment from neighbors,

Just a update I received a letter from the melin ceo today which I am not happy with as the way it is worded is making out that all the problems of the heating system are our fault and the letter also ignores all the complaints we put in about staff and contractor problems,

I have just been down to the Melin office and I was told by the director of customers services MR Dave Cook that they will not do anything about the heating system until a monitoring agreement is signed I told him I cannot do that due to the high running costs of the Nibe and due to the fact the the noise of the nibe is severely affecting my hearing disability but then he blanked me out then keep smirking and kept repeating the same thing then we had to walk out of the meeting then I went to the reception as I want to speak to someone else above the director of customer service as he is refusing to repair the nibe heating system and I was told if me and my partner and children do not leave the building he would phone the police on us which I think is sick I only went to the reception desk speak to some one senior

I think what happened to us at the melin office this afternoon was very unprofessional

He's offering to help you and you're refusing to sign an agreement to help you - what else do you want him to do for you?!?!

The original poster has been put into a housing association home with an experimental exhaust air heating system that the Energy Saving Trust would not recommend for his location and choice of fuel supply.
Powered by full price electricity, it does NOT seem to be saving any money what so ever.
Possibly because of sharing his home with this cuckoo in the financial nest of a heating system, the noise it makes is also not acceptable.

In this position I would cross out and initial the crossings, write in the truth and nothing but the factual truth, and then, when the "agreement" represents my version of reality, I would sign and keep a copy.
That would put "the monkey" back on the shoulders of the housing association and the firm of architects who were well paid trained and subsidised by the rest of us, to build the property.

Let them come back next January and adjust the settings on the heating system's computer control while monitoring electricity consumption and internal v external temperatures.

Note to original poster You can get one of those "weather station" internal and external in the house and garden weather monitors remarkably cheaply from the likes of Lidl and Aldi, so you could monitor your electricity consumption against internal and external temperatures (and solar gain) and draw some nice graphs. Roughly speaking your increased usage as the winter approaches will be down to heating and lighting [do you already have low energy light bulbs?]. Actually that should be an underestimate of the cost of heating and lighting because as the winter comes on you should save a little with the fridge and freezer.

Poor specification and poor installation are the main reason for failure of heat pump installations.
Poor or non existent tuning of the settings comes next.
Then we have "Tenants who cannot understand" [that you must not turn it on and off like a gas fire - the home should be kept ticking over at all times and the heat really should be supplied into an under floor coil system with no carpets on the floors].

Signing it would mean leaving it on all year 24/7 but I cannot leave it on 24/7 as the noise is unbearable and severally affects my hearing disability and day to day life at the property of not just myself but my family as well it is hard to get to sleep with the nibe unit on and it wakes people in the night,

The agreement contains a load of points which I cannot agree to but as a housing association they cannot refuse to repair it I have shown it to C.A.B and they also said do not sign it,

    :mad:Thanks Melin Homes:mad:

Due to the amount of anti-social behaviour problems that we have that have included neighbours damaging our property and looking though our windows and continues harassment that has been court on HD cctv resulting in individuates being done by the police we have now got to look to move out to a new home,

When we went to the melin office yesterday to talk about the continues harassment and damage to our property and heating issues where brought up and we was treated and spoke to very bad by a Mr Dave Cook and if we want to move some were else they will not help us at all according to their letter and when we ask when would the ceo be back in we was told to leave of the police would be called on me and me family if we did not leave the premises,

My partner then had very bad chest pains and was taken rushed in to hospital and then this morning I then find more asb problems as someone has thrown all rubbish in to our garden again,

We have now been forced out of this property by our landloard and problem neighbours so we now have no choice but to private rent asap,

I will now only post back when we move out hopefully soon as I am viewing a property tonight so fingers crossed we will be out of here very soon,

Looks like melin who are a bunch of **** and their nutter problem neighbours got their way I cannot wait to move out of here and they can stick the keys where the sun does not shine
