Have you tried treating the house with a veterinary grade flea spray such as Acclaim, or Indorex?

I don't have much faith in "flea bombs" but have always found the sprays to be very good.
Thats two my vet never recommended. Maybe a change in vet would be more appropriate. Looks to me as if he only recommends whatever the rep's are giving him the most of for less........Frontline is all he ever mentions and unfortunately for me, its never really worked that well, only on the cat. I'll keep them on my list of things to buy should the others not work. Thanks xx

  • Is anyone else finding that there are a lot more fleas about this year than ever before (ticks to!)? Either that or my cats have started a bredding programme in the field out the back of my house!
Is there anything else I can use other than frontline on my cats as it's not really killing them all (I've treated the house to by the way with RIP)?

I know someone on MSE discussed a website where one could get cheaper frontline etc... its a case of looking through the forum to discover it. But you should also be able to get it from your vet. Program has to be given according to ur dog's weight.

:rotfl:You could start a flea circus and make tons of money!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

On a more serious note, you will have to treat the cat again (not with TCP though) as the fleas will jump from one to the other.
Good thinking. It maybe the new thing to make easy money.

Daisy my cat is currently on a 3 month course ffrom the vet, after having her health check. Surprisingly, she's on Frontline Combo. xx

Maybe we could do business, like Annando said, a flea circus. God knows, between the two of us, we'd make a mint!!!!

Sorry, perhaps I should have explained that the ones I recommended are for treating the house, not the animals ;)

I use the Acclaim and every April I just go round the house and spray carpets and anywhere the cats sleep and that sorts it out for the whole year. I then just treat the cats 2-3 times a year with Frontline spot-on and never had a problem with fleas.

I've heard reports that Frontline isn't as effective as it used to be due to being used so much the fleas are developing immunity, maybe one of the resident vets can confirm this, so perhaps try Stronghold or one of the newer ones for the dog

  • TREAT THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are treating the animals already. Please do not use TCP, it is toxic to your cat and can cause chemical burns on dogs.

Fleas do not jump from one animal to another, they are picked up in the environment, usually a house provides a nice place for fleas.

As this is an annual thing it may well be that the fleas are staying dormant until the situation is just right for alot of them to hatch at once.

Flea larvae can stay in floor boards/soft furnishings etc for up to 2 years!!!

Annando's is right with the hoovering AND changing the bag every day as they will breed in there too, or spray with Acclaim or Indorex. Annando's regime sounds good, I would follow it!
