i asked for advice, no-one replied for over an hour so i posted again.
Hi dogwoof
Sorry no advice re the fleas. Can I gently suggest that rather than posting new threads referring back to your old ones perhaps you could post a new reply in the original thread (called "bumping"). That way it brings the original thread up to the top again and people will see it. I'm absolutely not having a go at you at all dogwoof, just a little guidance regarding board etiquette.
I hope you get your problem solved soon. We have three dogs, who occasionally get fleas. Luckily we have wooden floors and leather sofas so the little rotters have nowhere to lay their eggs - other than the dogs' beds which get a regular hot wash.
Good Luck!
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.
Oi you lot - pleaseGIVE BLOOD
- you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.

Hi dogwoof! Just to let you know that my vet once told me, fleas lay there eggs in skirting boards and as soon as a peice of blood or hair (from a dog/cat) get on the eggs they will bread again. So wash all your skirting boards really well cos they could be there!! HTH:hello:0

last night we hoovered thoroughly, i sprayed RIP (with gas mask on) all over carpets, skirting boards, that night not one landed on my leg (from the hall/upstairs)!
it was so nice to look down at my sox and to not have them on me :j
apart from 1 when i went 2 the lving room (before i did living room)
+ 1 one on me from kitchen i think.
we thoroughly cleaned the clyinder of the hoover aswell and cleared junk bosex out.
this morning i had none on me either.
we will carry on doing this.
we were advised 2 get our dog a haircut (not wash) so that the blighters can get right to his skin and get to frontline (hes a poodle with thick hair) at the moment his hair is really thick.
only time will tell.....but i am hoping to return to normality soon
thanks ppl0 -
Aw bless,
You are getting some conflicting information, I bet you are so confused! It sounds like you're getting on top of the problem now.
Frontline is absorbed into the fatty layer under the skin. Unless its changed in the last 6 months it does KILL fleas! (I'm a vet nurse). Realistically, never buy flea products from a pet store as they haven't changed their ingredients in YEARS and the fleas are now resistant. Frontline, stronghold and other vet products change formulas and strengths often to prevent this happening. This is also the case with Worm treatments. Save pennies, buy right the first time around!!!
Please be very careful with the various products applied around the house as the dog has to clean itself and will end up ingesting the toxins - you could have quite a cocktail lurking on you walls and floors. Otherwise wait for a while (about 2 weeks), let the products work, then steamclean if you like. Please apply flea control regularly (every 4-6 weeks) over the summer months then again when you turn on central heating in autumn, the product on the dog should take care of any leftovers in the house.
GOODLUCK!0 -
If you haven't already, get the household flea spray from your vets as the pet shop ones are not much use (unless you hit the fleas with the tin)!
As for using frontline, that will get rid of the fleas on the dog as long as you applied it properly.
I use to use nuvan top spray for my dogs (from the vets) and you could see fleas fall off and die instantly!!!
Don't panic, just make sure when you spray the house you go all around the edges and under furniture including your bed.
Take all your own bedding off too and wash and check that.
Chances are you are allergic to the flea bites and you boyfriend is not so that is why you notice yours. I am allergic to them and I come up in big red blotches and they itch like hell!
GOOD LUCK!0 -
Flea Bombs work a treat. We had this problem a number of years back with our cat, went on holiday for a fortnight, came back, house was infested with fleas, just as you describe, every time you walk anywhere fleas jump on you. We bought a flea bomb for each room - from Pets at Home, although I guess most places sell them, I think they were roughly a tenner each. Then we started upstairs, set a bomb off in a room and shut the door, worked our way through the upstairs of the house, set one off on the landing, put one in each room downstairs and finally set one off at the bottom of the stairs before leaving the house.
We then went and spent the night at my mums house and returned in the morning, everything was clear, not a flea in sight. You never know how far you can fly, till you spread your wings.0 -

dogwoof, you've already got 2 threads active on this. Adding a 3rd isn't going to change the advice you are getting. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

£10 per room?????
Why on earth didn't you just buy the household spray, either from your vet or an online pharmacy (will be cheaper). One can should adequately cover a 3-bed house and will give you complete protection from fleas for 12mths!!!
One of the best you can get is Vetkem Acclaim and costs around £10-£12 per can, the same as you paid to do just one room!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Whooops! sorry“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
