our house we rent is infested.

we only just realised on friday 7th sept (there) so all this time last week the fleas may have been in the carpets)

    friday

bought BOB MARTIN SPOT ON, flea shampo, washed him, used spray on carpets, etc from pet store

    saturday

we took him to the vet bought FRONTLINE, showered again, used fronline, sprayed everywhehouse with an insecticide RIP. We bought him a new bed, hoovered.

    sunday

    hoovered, sprayed

    monday

    at wits end!!

we're still getting them, honestly i want to leave the house, its disgusting, i cant work out why theyre still here, the frontline is supposed 2 work within 24 hrs.

the spray is supposed to kill the fleas, eggs instantly, but yesterday just from walking (hurridly) up and down the stairs i got one on my leg, in total yesterday i picked 4 off of me through whole day arghhhhhhhh! it makes my skin crawl, literraly i am stratching my skin like mad.

we even sprayed the bathroom where we gave him a bath. the thing is they're not jumping on my boyf (whos dog it is!!!) theyre attacking me! and i dont go near him! ive got loads of bits on me but my boyf's got 2!

i even bought an insect repellant and used on my legs but it still flipping jumped on me after!!! argghhhh?

he sits up all night, i dont get it why me?????????

weve been arguing at each other throats, cos of the hassle, hes annoyed @ me askin ......have u checked ure trousers/ have you checked ure socks bfore getting to bed??? i dont want them in the bed. im so frustrated at the situation i want to get it sorted.

i think im more agitated than him cos im the one getting bitten all the time!
i feel like im having OCD or sumthing, having to shakee my clothes inside out, scouring floors checking for them, checking my skin. running up the stairs.

i cannot live like this, i got no sleep last night, im seriosuly at my wits end, frustrated and upset. i just want to go back to normal, going about our business, and the house.

we just had a gas leak 2 wkks ago, and now its this

i will pay anything just to get them out!

do we get a flea bomb? how much where from
do we get it professionally fumigated where/how much?

First get to a pet shop.

Buy a flea spray (to kill the fleas on the dog), then get flea drops (to stop the dog getting them again), then get a flea spray for the house (they shed flea eggs like grains of salt all over the house, the eggs hatch and go back onto the dog) and you will also need a wormer for the dog too, as flea bites mean worm infestation.

You will need about £30-£50 unfortunately.

From now on, either keep up with a good flea routine, flea drops every 4 weeks (or as directed by product) or go to your vet who will have better products and will be able to treat your dog for longer, saving money in the long run.

Personally, I use drops from vet, a wormer form the vet and use flea shampoo with a comb. The drops stop the fleas from breeding, but don't kill the adults, hence the shampoo and comb.
  • plz could you read my post? >>>>>pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease can you help

its got more details....i've already went the pet shop and vet

    thanks
  • I use frontline http://frontline.uk.merial.com/ get it from your vets, also buy the Environmental sprays and spray your house as this will kill the unhatched eggs!!!

I have small poms and this doesnt irritate the skin like the pet shop ones.
  • I think it may be time to call pest control!!!

Call your local council, many offer free or cheap pest control.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

Firstly. After using the front line drops, DON'T bathe him for at;east 3 days, you will just wash it off!

Now, you have a problem with the life cycle of a flea.

Get all your bedlinen, everything that can be washed in a hot cycle.

Then make sure everything is clean and tidy (it makes everything easier).

If you have missed any rooms when you sprayed, do them. Even if the dog doesn't go there.

Re-spray when the bottle tells you (can be 3 days, or a week depending on the brand).

Check the dog again, but remember, frontline doesn't kill adult fleas, just makes them sterile. You can try johnsons 4fleas (if you have not gave him anything else) it is quite good at killing them in 24hours.

It will take time to kill them all. Until then, you can use a few drops of teetrea oil on your legs (trust me, I'm a magnet for fleas and mites too!)

Let the frontline do its job. If you can get a hold of a steam cleaner, use it on your carpets, sofa (if its not leather), mattress, everything!

It will go away, it will just take time. Make sure your not using too many products though. A household spray that kills at ALL life cycles, and used properly, should get rid of them, eventually.

Sorry if I can't give you more help.
  • This board not supposed to be for advice, but can't say i'm surprised Bob Martin didn't do anything, waste of time that product imho.
  • I had a similar problem a couple of summers ago when there was a 'flea' outbreak due to the mild weather.

Firstly ..Frontline then leave the dog alone ..do not bath.
Secondly ..the RiP spray , i used 2 full cans to do the house.
I still found live fleas in the rooms i sprayed , despite the dog not going in them (the same as you)so i rang the vet . He told me that if the dog was Frontline treated ,let it go in all the rooms , the fleas will then jump onto the dog , as this is their favourite place to be and because the dog has the Frontline on it , the fleas will die. It did work for me. Previously i had tried 'flea bombs' and all the old remedies , but doing this was the only thing that worked !
  • A similar thing happened to me with cat fleas.

Nothing worked, then the lady in the pet shop told me to get ordinary fly spray and spray the carpets well, especially where they meet the skirting board.

    That worked immediately!
