Evening all, well been a busy day today, went to boxing club after work then to see PT. Feel quite positive that I'll get good results. He said my eating habits are not tooooooooo bad but could be alot better. He's going to email me with a nutrition plan, one thing that stood out was me eating porridge everyday, it's not too good apparantly. Bah, no wonder I wasn't losing any weight. He knows his stuff which went over my head a bit, but basically some foods I'm eating are making me retain fat even though they seem healthy and low fat, such as the porridge.
Going back to see him next week and going to pay for 12 weeks up front so I make sure I stick with the plan. Got a good wee amount of time to see some results. Wish me luck, think I'm going to be in for a time of it.0 -

Porridge is either a super food, or something that totally doesn't work for you. I used to eat it every morning, but even much vaunted qualities like the lowish GI and the cholesterol reducing thing didn't make up for the fact that it left me feeling seriously hungry after a few hours (without the addition of fruit/nuts/seeds for protein etc.)
Something OH and I have been experimenting with this week that has been working really well (might sound odd) are breakfast burritos - multigrain tortilla wrap with spicy black beans, scrambled eggs and salsa. Low calorie, tasty (although it's different from toast and marmalade, I'll give you that) and very filling (loads of protein). They freeze fairly well, so can be made in bulk and are cheap as chips. That said, it's taking a while to master the defrost/reheat method.
See this link. I make the beans/eggs seperately and probably add a lot more interesting ingredients than he does, like passata and spices.0 -
He mentioned the lack of protein at breakfast edinburgher and suggested adding nuts or having eggs and turkey rashers. I managed to have two weetabix and some blueberries this morning and have loads of porridge to use up so a bit gutted it's not working for me. He's emailing me some nutrition stuff so I'll use up what I have and make sure I follow his advice.
What else can I use porridge for, got two big boxes of it?
Those burritos sound great, sure he mentioned something like wraps but if was for lunch!0 -
having eggs and turkey rashers
Eggs are great - not so keen on turkey rashers and they're relatively expensive compared to the eggs. What else can I use porridge for, got two big boxes of it?
Flapjacks/baking/in some soups to thicken them - sure there's lot of other uses? Could probably use it for concrete if you fancied a wee extension as well
In theory the wraps are a balanced meal (fibre, carbs, protein) at any time of day, but they'd need some extra veg to make sure you got enough vitamins. Think I might try adding some diced toms and sliced stir fried peppers or the like next week.0 -

Wouldn't mind a wee extension, would save us having to move!
Well tonight it's not a fab dinner, but mashed tatties (cos need to use loads up), brocolli, cauli and turkey escaplopes. Turkey is ok but doubt very much them being breaded is healthy. I am grilling them though
Eagerly awaiting my nutrition thingybob so I can see what I need to buy, can't believe bananas aren't so good, I've a huge bag of them. Will just need to use them up (or make banana bread, ha).
Well better do a quick tidy before OH gets here, he's staying tonight and realised that the final of Bridal Plasty is on, doubt he'll want to watch that with me, boo.0 -
Have been suffering today with more bites on my ankle, it's really quite swollen. My friend who stays across from me has been bitten too so at least I'm not para about there being something dodgy in my house!
Got the gym tonight but not feeling it, quite tired today, but I'm scared not to go. Don't want to look like I'll put off going for the slightest of things, especially when I start with the PT, not spending that money for nothing.
Was wanting to book a weekend away for the end of April but forgot it's the bank holiday weekend so it's a 2 night minimum stay everywhere. We're going to Edinburgh on the Saturday but thought (well I thought) a wee overnight would be good, don't know if can stretch to two though.
We might have (a small) chance of purchasing OH's uncle's house but trying not to get our hopes up.
His wife is in a nursing home and the house will essentially be sold to pay for her care, it's a lovely two bedroom which would be perfect for us and it's in a nice area. Only problem is, we wouldn't know how much it would be and if we could come to an agreement, then we have no deposit so would have to try and borrow that, oh it's so complicated.
We've already been asked if we want the flatscreen tv he had, he only bought it last October, which is great as we've not got one. OH is going to give some money though to go towards any funeral costs, so at least we'll be buying it, albeit alot cheaper.
Feeling quite likely to fall back into debt again so must re-assess the finances, the urge to splurge is there but I'm fully aware what got me into debt in the first place.0 -
Gym didn't go too great tonight, my ankle was swollen from the bites so made it a bit tough. I did do something though, although nearly never got there as had to call utility co. Put my meter readings in, online and got an email today to say my payments were doubling! Turns out it was a mistake AGAIN, got a letter before Christmas saying it had trebled, it was a mistake but this is really starting to pee me off. I've set it at £60 which is what I used to pay before they kept lowering it then raising it, just leave it the way it is for goodness sake.
Well watched the finale of Bridalplasty, prog flipping ended before the end but I managed to find it online and watch the last 20 mins, so glad Alyson won over Jenessa, manipulative witch!
Well off to bed now as legs really aching and I need a good sleep. Got my nutrition plan through, looks doable, prawns are on there but I don't like them, only ever tried one so might give it another go. It is one of my 102 things to do. Well night all. x0 -
House sounds it could be a great option.

Come on missus - remember the benefits of not splurging - self-determination, less worry and the possibility of retiring some dayBeats perma-debt and work 'til you drop!!
What's on your nutrition list and what's a bridalplasty? Sounds painful...0 -
I had seen your thread around, and kept on meaning to have a look at it. But so many threads so little time:o But I have read the whole thing today so...
Well done on getting debt free! Nice one. It must be such a relief knowing that you will be able to pay for things like the teeth without putting it on a credit card.
Ref the oats I use a handful of oats in bolognese sauce to bulk it up. It means that I can usually get 1lb of mince to do 2 meals for 4 of us.....
Twinks hobnobs would be another idea, but may be not if you are trying to lose weight they are very more ish.
Ref the nutrition thing, would be curious to know what the main things on it are in terms of AVOIDING! I want to lose at least 1 stone, or maybe even 2:eek::eek: (though that would be pushing my willpower a bit), so any tips would be gratefully received!
Take care
