The Giving Up Smoking Thread - Part 3

I'd doubt very much that MSE have made any such ' ruling ' NTC . . . Andrea herself said earlier in this thread, that discussion on ecigs were welcome here. If I'm incorrect, so be it.
The sad fact of this all is, that they provide a healthier, cheaper alternative to tobacco . . . and can be used as a very helpful stepping stone, depending on the user's long term objective.
To exclude them from a discussion, is depriving people of what could be very useful information to them.
Thank you for keeping an open mind on the subject.0 -
I wasn't going to post on here again, as I felt as an e-cig user, I wasn't welcome & was classed as a trouble maker - it's the last thing I am. I used to be such a heavy smoker & tried everything to give up, but failed - until I bought my first e-cig.& since then I (& many others) just want to let as many people know about how e-cigs can help people find a stress free alternative to smoking.
However, I just have to say Kudos & cheers to Needstochange
I hope this thread isn't closed, so that we can all help everyone here, no matter what method they are using.
Got to admit, I'm shocked & puzzled about Suu's new thread, I thought from some of her posts on this thread, she was against all forms of NRT as well as e-cigs?0 -

Most of the people that try e-cigs are very hardened smokers, they've usually tried everything else to give up, usually several times at least.
I was over the moon when I discovered e-cigs worked for me, nothing else had. I'm still on a high from discovering it 8 months ago.
They worked for ME, doesn't mean they will work for someone else.
I'd prefer to live in a place that didn't just say something is bad, just because of personal feelings, but gave out decent real advice and comments.
For example, are e-cigs bad for you? Well, possibly, they're probably not good for you. But that's not the right question, the right question is, are they better for you than real cigarettes? The true answer is out there on the web, you'll have to look through the for's and against's, but you will get there in the end and be happier for it.
ps, the answer is a definite yes, 99% better, IMO. (and in my experience (and I think everyone else who've tried/tested them... and that's alot of people (and medical folk)))
So do the people that have to use them to stop smoking, deserve to be treated like lepers and lunatics? Obviously the answer is a personal one.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Who would have told Sue to put that statement in? I don't really understand what is going on here? this is an open forum and surely so long as everyone can respect each other's point of view nobody should be excluded from posting anywhere?
Not sure karmacookie I am as confused as you but it looked to me like an official opening of a new thread which is usually closely followed by the the old thread closing so thats why I assumed it was Forum Team. I had a pm from Sue saying it was the new thread. Maybe because of the bank holiday FT haven't got round to closing this one but i still disagree with the rule.
I am doing really well thank you btw will probably be a few stone heavier by the end of the weekend but there has been no smoking which is amazingI'd doubt very much that MSE have made any such ' ruling ' NTC . . . Thank you geneva
After trying everything in the book and still going back to the fags then I never ever get complacent and anything that helps anyone has to be a good thingIsaac-the-red wrote: »However, I just have to say Kudos & cheers to Needstochange

:rotfl::rotfl: I will blush at this rate
I hope it isn't closed either or that the forum team decide the rule is wrong and we are all entitled to support.
I think my method of Radio 4s Eddie Mair beats you all into submission though. He should be put on prescription:D:D29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -
Well done NtC a few extra pounds will be easy enough to shift once you get your lung capacity back
Let's hope this thread is allowed to continue and everyone who is trying to quit is welcomed with open arms, whatever method they choose, even if it is just cutting down. Stopping smoking is not easy and anyone who tries to quit should be encouraged, whatever means they choose0 -
Very sad isn't it . . . we should all be working together, to provide the best/ widest spectrum of information, help and assistance there is available, for people wanting to make a huge lifestyle change.
Surely that's the advantage of an impartial internet forum, to be able to provide that information, in one place for its users.0 -

I hope it isn't closed either or that the forum team decide the rule is wrong and we are all entitled to support.) but you have stood up for what is right in your book and that gets a massive slap on the back from me.
The last thing I personally want, is divided threads, it's pointless, it's petty beyond belief and it's counter productive.
I'm not sure what is going to happen (if anything) but I've said my piece now.
The forum team already decided the matter once, it's there in black and white, but some people seem destined to never let up their mistaken ideals.
I'm sorry beyond compare it's come to this, there are people on alot of threads I disagree with, but I never think they should be banned from posting.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Well I vote for us all to stick together whatever method we use
Its horses for courses and if only there was one magic button we could all press and never again want or need a cigarette. Each time I have stopped I think I have found that button (like Alan Carr or NRT) but each time the drug has beaten me. This time I am being maybe a bit more honest with myself and admitting that there is no button (apart from the radio 4 button of course
)
When I made my decision and came on here to share I was frankly overwhelmed by the support everyone offered me and I am not sure I would have gone through with it if I hadn't have had the desire to come and tell you all I had done it. That was my magic button and it was nothing more than a friendly supportive forum which I will now be the first to fight to keep for myself and others
Hope you all have a great weekend and if you are anything like me you will be celebrating the run away win by pudsey :T:T:D29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -
Oh dear. This is all a shame. I'm a newbie, haven't smoked since last Weds & looked up this thread to give/receive a bit of moral support. It seems to have all gone wrong

Hi Mrs B, well done, good for you
How are you coping with giving up? Are you using any NRT? I hope you have some good moral support at home, quitting isn't easy but you're doing really well0
