would anyone mind if I joined in?

After approx 20 years of smoking I have purchased an E-Cig which arrived in the post today. My last real Ciggy was at 12.30 dinner time today 3 hours in so far so good.

I researched them for quite a bit before purchasing a genesis 510 starter kit with an extra battery and liquid, so no excuse of it running out.

I'm going to take it one day at a time. Recently I have been smoking 30-40 roll ups a day which is horrendous, so fingers crossed for the rest of the day being weed free.
    To answer your initial post...

30 to 40 roll ups a day is indeed awful, you've done well so far, keep us updated.
e-cigs require a different technique to smoking, so don't despair if you find it not working as well as you think it should be doing. Pop over to the e-cig thread for advice on this, or pm someone on here who knows about them.

Alot of people just cut down their smoking at first with e-cigs, so don't worry if you have to have one or two. Myself, I haven't touched a nasty since I had my first vape and have really never looked back. It was the best thing I ever did.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Thank you lotus and mj132 for the support and explanation, it is much appreciated.

As I have researched e-cigs and am only 24 hours in ( all tobacco free I might add!) I didn't come on here for advice, I will go over to the e-cig forum for that in future. I was just hoping to join in for the mutual support on stopping smoking in general.

Sue I certainly do not need more help than people on here can give me and certainly no more support than anyone else, but do not worry I will not bother you again.
I'd rather go it alone than be part of such an unfriendly thread.

Don't worry, some people think they can choose who does and doesn't post on this thread. The moderators said anyone can post about e-cigs on here, but it seems to have gone in one ear and out of the other one.

There are lots of people who read this thread, who can answer any question you have about e-cigs, don't worry about that. But it is better to keep any technical questions to the proper e-cig thread or find an e-cig forum (pm me if you want a hand with this) as it just bores/winds up people on here and so it isn't really the right place for it.
But you can use this thread for general giving up smoking help and enthusiasm. If you feel you want to now....

No one on here normally chooses who does and doesn't post on this thread, Lotus, so long as we know what we're talking about. However, if ithey want to quit using a means we know nothing about then why, when there's a perfectly good thread for E-cig users to use, would they not be happy to do so - without coming back to try to cause trouble, especially after I had given her the link to it!

BTW, we do not have Mods on MSE, we have Board Guides, and when one of the Liaison team came to step in, she said "either start up a thread of your own" OR stay on this one. That says it all, L-E! You already had a darned good thread of your own with those on it who know what they are talking about; and we here..as you asked on your very first post on this thread...will send e-ciggers over to you by giving them the link. I have always done so!

e-cigs require a different technique to smoking, so don't despair if you find it not working as well as you think it should be doing. Pop over to the e-cig thread for advice on this, or pm someone on here who knows about them..

In this last quote of yours you say it all perfectly, L-E! That is what I tell them!

Please, now leave us to continue with this thread in the peaceful, supportive way it should be run for those quitting with ways I'm able to advise about.

    Thank you. Sue

njk1012, I did not tell you in my 1st post to you that nicotine replacement was frowned upon here!

Basic nicotine replacement is not frowned upon as we have knowledge about the common ones - but not about E-cigs which is far more complicated than most people think. It has not been thoroughly checked out yet either so no one knows exactly what is in the nicotine that people inhale!

There is a huge difference in having knowledge about things and not, because of this it's far better to keep the 2 threads as they are - separate.

If you do wish to use any other form of NRT then you're welcome to join us, if not you have the link to use. Whatever for you choose, I wish you the success to quit as soon as is possible.

    Sue

    Actually had a bit of a re-think.
I do not wish to use any other form of NRT and I should be welcome to post on any board I wish as long as I am not purposefully offending others.
As an educated adult I have researched and chosen the NRT which I believe is right for me and would not as a reasonable adult try to choose for anyone else.
Therefore I will be posing my progress to nicotine freedom (the whole point of this board) and if people would like to respond they can if not I don't mind.

Well today has been very successful, I have kept my self very busy in the house and will be working most of the evening. 28 hours on NRT, no tobacco products used here, so far so good.

3 weeks 1 day Patch and spray (So sorry suuuuuuuuuuuuuue)

Geee what happened to this thread. All sue was advising was that you may get more advice on the e-cig thread. I know there's plenty of e-cigs out there, yes I've tried that method too :rotfl:

I think what's meant is, NRT is medically approved. Even smoking cessation groups don't recommend the ecigs as they don't know what long term effect they may have, if any. They could be 100% safe, the way they made me cough, I doubt it :rotfl: Just kidding!! They did make me cough like an old miner tho!

I'm pretty sure anyone is welcome to use the support on the thread, but it would better, if, and because, ecigs have their own thread to get the best advice on there for your support.

My view: Anything that can help you stop smoking, whether it be NRT, Ecigs, cold turkey, AC books, turning to drink :rotfl: is going to be better than smoking. I am quite happy to continue taking in nicotine as long as I need to, without all the other chemicals.

I admire those who do it cold turkey, even heavy smoking can succeed in this method, my mother done it 20+ years ago from being a 40-60 a day smoker to 0. But it's not for me. I'll take all the help I can, I know I need it. I know my limitations.

    I will not smoke today!!

And as you can tell, I finally got to sit down and read the few last posts. :T

Fairly easy, thanks lotus. Had a couple of twinges of a craving for a cig last night but they soon went away.
I honestly thought it would be harder however usually stumble at day 3 with other nicotine replacement so I will see how it goes.

Cleared all smoking paraphernalia from my office today and gave the room a good clean, it makes me feel so much better without the smell & ash everywhere.

It will be interesting to see how you get on with it then. Considering your 3 day NRT history.
What juice did you go for btw?

I'm on 18mg nicotine, tobacco flavored from genesis, I'm hoping to try the other flavors soon but thought this would be the easiest to start on. I've heard the chocolate one is very good.
