There was something that I'd forgotten - it was coming up to TOTM and hormones may have had something to do with it too. Add into the mix that I'd smoke to relieve the PMT normally, even if I didn't know I was doing it, and cue brain chemistry going sproing!
NTC that's a really interesting point about cigarettes being a mild anti depressant, that hadn't occurred to me, though I also found they were a mild painkiller, particularly around TOTM although this may just be in my head.
Sue-UU I'm feeling a lot better today, and strangely all the more better knowing I can get through a really bad day and still stay off the cigs. I'm actually a little bit proud of myselfI felt a lot better once I'd gone to bed and gave way to the tears, though I felt stupid because I didn't really know why I was crying except that I was feeling really frustrated with myself. On the other hand that could also have been partly hormones.
To be honest, I doubt the way I was feeling was at all Champix related, I think I would have had a bad day anyway, and it wasn't a work day so I could get away with giving into it. Add to that I was depriving myself of something I'd normally use to help and I was taking Champix on top of that and the old hormone thing was a recipe for being especially down.
Thank you for the hugs {{{hugs}}} back and to anyone else who needs one! I didn't mean the PM was anon, It gave me the user it was from, I meant that this is an anonymous forum and the fact that people (including yourself) are willing to spend time and energy to help out a complete stranger is wonderful, and I sort of might of cried at your collective amazingness
Having terrible probs with my hormones right now so anyone who is new to quitting and like having probs with their hormones. Not only are cigs a mild anti depressant (and it's not so much the nic as the other nasties) but also yes, a mild painkiller. Was one of the first things I used to reach for when I had bad toothache years ago....
Hi welshone...aren't you doing fantastically, especially given it's the TOTM!!! Marvellous! :T You obviously picked the right time for you and have great determination and willpower which is what quitting is all about. Just don't ever become complacent, keep up with what you're doing as it's working so VERY well!!There's the Silk Quit meter above if you want to keep tabs on what you haven't smoked and how much you're saving.
All the very best!!!

I think that's half the battle...choosing the right time? I mean the prob is you can never really fully gauge when the right time is and you just have to keep trying....:APatches/Oral Spray Day 1
Well day 1 again
More successful. Smoked last cig at 7am with my morning coffee. Not had any major cravings as yet. Had an empty ecig in my hand for something to chew on rather than puffing on it. Should be getting enough nic from patches and spray. Only had one puff of the spray, not cause I needed it, cause I found a bottle in the car and was seeing if it was one that still worked :rotfl:
My danger time will be this evening when the fella is here. But I know I can do it
Och if you know you have enough nic you should be fine. I mean chew on anything you have to for the oral stuff. Just stay away from the cigs :T. That's one of the reasons I chose the e-cig - cos I 100% knew I could get enough nic initially. Reduction can happen later....I started at a whopping high dose and am now down to a mid high dose on e-cig (36mg/ml down to 14mg/ml for the techies)....aiming to be nic free by the end of the summer
First week in (apart from my barlinnie special, yes sue you got it right )
Massive £90 not spent on cigs already. It's funny, u don't notice that when you're buying a packet or 2 a day. But it's not long in adding up.
Had some good news for a change. Well not good news but a step in the right direction. Finally a doctor actually put a name to what is wrong with DD knees. She has Patella Alta, which is more common in people with HMS/EDS. Basically her kneecap is too high, maybe a bit too small too, hence why it pops all the time. So we have a name to give her wobbly bits. Doc was great and very understanding. Told her exactly where to ice it and for how long. Was great to see a doc who understood, and for the first time she wasn't told she'd grow out of it (21 btw). So, she's to have 3 weeks of rest. Then he'll decide on whether to send her to start physio or for an MRI to go down the surgery route.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=!!!T7-XRoxY <--- this short vid best describes it, but dd's doesn't come back on it's own, she has to grab it and pull it back into place.
More good news. DD has also decided to stop smoking :T The first week, I had been using the spares I had in the house, so was in the chemist with her when she heard me asking and decided there and then to give it a go. :T
Big well done to all. We can all give ourselves a bit pat on back
That is like such good news...
I've had a pants week but not even been tempted to have a cig. I think I had a few (two or three) again the other week at a friend's (he still smokes) but still...
Latest prob is blood sugar. Seems to drop no end mid morning and mid afternoon and I feel pants and have to like grab something? Any ideas....

Very well done, accountingbod!!! :T You're doing such a good job, just make sure you don't give in to thoughts of going back as it's never, ever worth it - you'll only want to start off quitting all over again! Remember that the further you get away from fags the less often the 'cravings' happen and the the less impact they have. :j
Thanks for telling us of your achievement so far, it helps motivate others. All the very best and do let us know how you get on.
Sue
You're doing extremely well, jwarren66, keep going as the further away you come the easier it is!

Hi Karmacookie!
It is true that there's evidence which would suggest that stopping smoking can trigger the thyroid to malfunction, I'm sure that was the way with me. The problem is when we smoked the metabolism was always working so well, if a little too well, but then we stop and the problems set in. Having said that, I'd hate folk to get the wrong idea as I'll always be so very pleased I quit, always!
However, in your case it does seem weird when you're on an E-cig with nicotine! Did you have any sort of interim period in which the ailment could have established itself??
I know you say you'd been stable on your dose for 4 years - but - as the thyroid is so complex our dear Drs don't always tell us when the TSH or T4/T3 levels are too high or too low! Mine kept all that to himself until it finally shot through the roof a couple of years ago! Just like you, I'd felt so lethargic and depressed, but as soon as he put my pills up I started to feel ok again.
However, no matter what he says, after my bloods have been checked, whenever I feel out of sorts or my hair is falling out I know they're either too low/too high. The Americans are better off than us as at least they get to see an Endocrinologist who is far better able to deal with low or high thyroid problems. Next time you think you might be having problems ask your Dr to show you the actual readings for all 3, karma and see how that corresponds with about dot come.
All the very best with your problems, anytime you need an ear, just PM me, you're most welcome.
Hi Erme, it's difficult to advise about sugar levels when meds are involved, but have some nuts and raisins in so you can have a small handful morning and afternoon, a healthy snack with few calories!

I certainly wouldn't want to put anyone of quitting, if you're pre-disposed to have a dodgy thyroid it's going to happen at some point. I just think it's something people need to be aware of, obviously even people who are already diagnosed and on thyroxine. It's easy to dismiss being a bit out of sorts, especially when the body is going through such a major thing as stopping smoking after a number of years!
I never just accept that my results are normal, not after taking over 2 years to get diagnosed and trusting that the Dr knew what he was talking about. I always get the exact figures and rangesso, when I say I've been stable, I mean very stable, not just the medical proffesion's opinion of 'normal'
I'm also already on a pretty large dose!
Reading Erme's post about being hormonal, I'm thinking 'get your thyroid function tested'! When my thyroid is low I crave lucozade! Not the best for you but it lifts blood sugar quickly. Probably better with a few nuts or some oatcakes
I'm thinking that perhaps it's not the nicotine/lack of nicotine that triggers it but perhaps one of the other terible chemicals in ciggarettes?
Anyway, good luck to all my fellow quitters, and Happy EasterHopefully the weather may turn a bit warmer again, that always helps to lift people's spirits!

Just wanted to wish everyone a fab smoke free Easter!!!
Hope you enjoy whatever you are doing & being with friends or family.
Of course you could all feel sorry for me sitting at work all weekend with 60 trainee vicars for company:rotfl:
In previous years that would have sent me racing for a pack of 20!!:D
Still house is finished(Hoorah) more or less & has been valued this week - so full steam ahead to get it on the market next week, fingers crossed someone will love it - estate agent was quite taken with it..lol - hoping that's a good sign!

Thanks Karmacookie - have like GP a week on Tuesday so will mention....
Just had a very tired week (and now up at silly o'clock)...bit worried about this sugar stuff so going to try veg juice and water as a snack this am (carrot and greens and tomato juice) and see if that helps. I know lots of water has ironed out my BS in the past.
Might go for a jog at 6 or so we'll see...don't know....
Anyhow today is my 7 month anniversary and (if I still have a friend - we had a huge row last night) I might have converted another friend to e-cigs. She tried my strength and said it was too low but nice so I'm going to get her a paws mod (girlie purple e-cig) and get her started in a few weeks after the dust has settled. Don't worry. I just put a carto on the paws mod for her and filled it up then put the white bung back in for her to try and she loved it:). She just said it wasn't strong enough but she really liked it
...another convert
. I could go into business supplying my friends with e-cig stuff LOL.

Hi prepareathome and I'm pleased that you're happy with your new way of getting nicotine, but as Lotus-eater knows all too well, I'm not happy or knowledgeable enough to be able to comment on vaping. All I will say is beware you don't swap one for another!!! The thread for his type of thing is
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....php?t=1243625 though he's possibly given you the other web sites for them.
I wish you the very, very best to get free from everything to do with nicotine which I'd thought you were doing. If you wish to, you could always go through Erme's posts on this thread to be sure of what you're getting yourself into. She has been vaping for months and months!!!
I wish you well and that you'll get to Australia to see your Son's Wedding.
Sue x[/QUOTE]
I haven't posted here since this reply from Sue as I could see she didn't want me on the thread with using the e-cig but just thought despite that I would pop back and say for me using the e-cig as a stop smoking device has worked. Its nearly 11 weeks since I last smoked a proper cigarette and over that time I have with the help of Fag Ends used my e-cig just as anyone would use patches, inhalator's etc and am well on my way to stopping having any nicotine at all. Fag ends ( our local stop smoking clinics) try to work with you over 6 months first replacing how you get your nicotine, usually its patches etc, but they are very happy about the e-cig and slowly help you overcome cravings so instead of reaching for you inhalator's etc you distract yourself and 'reward' yourself with it a bit later, each day taking a bit longer before you reward yourself. So with their support I have found the e-cig works just as well doing this as does other NRT and as they even admitted its better than patches, they told me they usually have to advise people to start using something else after a month or so so they cut down as if not they continue using the patches month after month as you cannot keep removing it.
Money wise I am also very happy as would have spent over £420 in these past weeks and I have spent £130 and that included buying the e-cigs. So although they are not down as official NRT if like me you find them acceptable but also like me do not want to replace one bad habit for another so its in your mind the whole time that this are just a cheats way for stopping, so you are still getting your nicotine so not suffering cold turkey withdrawal, but reduce over months I cannot see why anyone shouldn't do it.
Due to my bad health I had enough pain and other problems without adding nicotine withdrawal to them and this for me has worked, not once have I been tempted to have another real cigarette not even when I am with people who are smoking. I don't think I ever mentioned I have Alan Carrs book both in print and audio book and I am afraid to me all he did was set my back up and make me want to smoke more.
I usually find I use my e-cig more in morning while in bed waiting for pain meds to work as that usually takes an hour or two can so just sit here waiting till I can get up then rest of day hardly touch them unless nicotine craving gets really bad but this is happening less and less thankfully now. You can buy lower dose e-liquid but I am not bothering, as I don't want to vape forever.
Right will leave again and stick to the other thread to post but just thought I would say how I was going on here.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
