quit since 23rd Feb
- had a stressful morning - just reread the first page of the thread ... helped remind me why I must not smoke again!
good luck to all and stay strong!0 -
What's sticky in e-cigs is vegetable glycerine...it's like soup LOL
PG is used in inhalers even - can't be that bad...
Being cautious as to what I am saying on here...Like Karmacookie said...if it's the choice between a fag and an e-cig - go get the e-cig!!!! You'll be glad you did and so will hubby....

I wish my husband was as supportive - 'if you want one, have one' - he doesn't even smoke, so you'd think he'd be more helpful lol!
Anyways, what with here, the smokefree website and their daily texts - I can do this!!!
Fluffy, that's the problem in a nutshell, he just hasn't a clue what it's like to give up, possibly thinks it's too hard "so give into them and get back to normal!" With your last words above though, you know you can beat this and are proving you can - or you wouldn't be here! Read through the posts on the thread and see if you can find more strength and inspiration there when times are hard.
Not long til that manicure now!!!!!! :happylove

Hi MotheroftheKid and a warm welcome to you! Very well done on having stopped for soooo long! You've come a long way and I hope you're so very, very proud of yourself!!!!! :T:T
How to manage eating! Your first great friend here is water! It is a great filler, drink it as much as you like - but not 30 minutes or closer before a meal - or you'll wash away the enzymes that help with digesting the meal. Try Ice Pops/Poles like the ones kiddies suck away at, they're refreshing, long-lasting and really do help so much. You'll find them in a box in supermarkets (not in the freezer dept), give them a go, they're great and effective! So, if you're feeling peckish grab a glass of water and either gulp or sip away at it. Also, a nice juicy apple is also refreshing and long-lasting, so too is fresh raw veg to nibble away at; carrots, celery etc. A small handful of nuts and raisins are good too and healthy! If you're really hungry then go for a brisk walk....you'll also help shed some of the calories you've put on!!!!
In the early days most of us know we could very easily have just 1 puff 1cigge and be back on 20 a day immediately. NEVER, EVER give way to such thoughts or you'll soon be back where you started and hating yourself!!
Well done MOTK!

Hi everyone!
I smoked my last cig on 1st april 2012, so nearly 2 weeks ago!!
Iv smoked about 20 a day for 11 years and decided last month that I wanted to quit (you really have to want to in order to be able to quit) so set my date as 1st april then spent a couple of weeks researching.
I came across so many bookes/sites/friends etc all telling me different things! What was best??!!
Some said go cold turkey, some said cut down gradually before quitting, some said throw all smoking parafanalia away on your quit date others said keep one cig with you (some psychological reason) and I didnt know what to do.
I also received a quit kit from NHS and loved the tangle thing in there, very good for keeping hands occupied at work!
Well I decided to keep smoking normal amount until my quit date and I still carry one cigarette in the bottom of my bag. It was extrememly difficult during the first 3 days but as the days passed its got gradually easier.
The problem I'm facing now is there's a night out planned this weekend and I know I'm going to struggle once I'm out socialising and having a bevvy or 3. Any suggestions??Sealed Pot Challenge 5 #1806 / £159.18

Didn't like the pressure to quit the nicotine Sue so hence stood up for e-cigs...
Being careful what I say on here as like don't like to feel pressurised or criminalised...
E
PS. For the record I can smoke 2-3 rollies in an e-cig crisis (off a friend - would never pay for them again LOL...and then go straight back on e-cig no bother. It really is that easy :j:dance:

Never feel the pressure to quit nicotine. If that's your crutch through a difficult quit time then so be it. Having the nic without the added nasties is gotta be better than smoking.
I only added my bit about ecigs from an objection pov. Why maybe the health professionals don't like em.
I admire those who can do it without nic, but it just wouldn't work for me. We all make our own choices in this battle, do what is right for you.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

Hello and welcome to the thread, Jo84!
Many apologies for not having seen you earlier, only pure luck just now! You must have posted yours while I was still writing mine.
Congratulations on having stopped smoking! :T As you rightly say, we all find our own ways of doing so, the right time too.
When you go out at the weekend, don't wander outside with friends while they have a ciggie, stay inside with the non and ex-smokers and chat with them. Also, you'd do well to take your tangle thingy and fiddle around with it during any anxious moments.
Lastly - keep the bevies to a minmum!!! The more alcohol you have inside you the more vulnerable you become. Aside from that, have a lovely evening, but be careful. I'll bet you're not the only one there who's in your situation, think of them.
All the very, very best and be so proud of yourself, you're doing soooo well!!

:rotfl::rotfl: bless you Sue you do forget dont you :A:A I fear you have probably now merged me into about 4 people;)
To reassure you i have no thyroid issues.
If i am honest I have some other things at work atm that I need to deal with and I think bed has become my escape from going down to the shop and buying 20 fags. Problem is sleep is a habit and I now start yawning at 9.00 ready for bed at 9.30:o:o
Anyway i have started a couple of major new projects in the house now so I may need to grab the odd hour in the evening. Maybe Ill stretch to 10 or even 11 :eek: no i take that back 11 will be far too late
Maybe I am just a wimp :rotfl:29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -

You go on any UK e-cig forum and you will see why a lot of folk don't want it officially sanctioned by the medics. For me personally I think it would bump up the cost (only free for 12 weeks per 6 months ) and also reduce the choice of flavours and strengths (why would I want the choice of just some strange tobacco flavour or menthol? I like blackcurrant, cherry, coffee, apple pie, maple syrup flavours to name a few) There is one that has talk of being licensed by the MHRA (or whatever it's called) but I think it's a slippery slope TBH. I know what's in my e-cig. I have no idea how much nicotine I am really getting per puff or whatever. It could be less than I think (I worked it out on approx absorption from the inhalator and approx dosages from that)....
Which reminds me.....Have to get inhalator mouthpiece for like places I can't use e-cig :T....preferably pay day....have the cartridges...Just need mouthpiece...

Hi NTC, I'll admit that I haven't got the best of memories, all part of me and the E, I'm sure. Good to hear your thyroid has been checked and is ok, I'll remember that if we're lucky!
Having a nap would do you the world of good, I need to or I'd be done in by early evening. Try it out and see how you go, if you think you're sleeping too long and it interferes with your nights sleep then use a timer and have no more than maybe 10 - 20 minutes power nap. Either way you'll feel much better for it.
All the best with the projects.
