Hi guys, still going great here and pleased to see more joining us.
Kelpie - the book recommends you continue smoking whilst you read which is a really good idea. I got the stop smoking for women version (only cos Im an avon rep and got it cheap years ago) but I think they are all much of a muchness.
One thing I noticed, many say that the book doesn't work for them second time around so would advise anyone reading to really take it in on the first read.
Fluffy - despite reading that some had problems sleeping, I was also really tired at first. It did pass eventually. Good luck and well done for getting this far.
I am very happily smoke free these days. There is still a little more of me than there was before but this shouldn't be a problem to shift. Thanks to Sue for the tip about eating ice pops - finally joined my 4yo dd for one and realised they're really yummy:D
Had a chat to MIL the other day and she seemed to think that I must have had some kind of health scare to stop smoking. Logically, the best time to stop must be before your health suffers rather than leaving it too late. FIL has COPD from smoking for years. Hoping that my 25 years or so of nicotine will not affect my health in the future.
MIL wants me to get my DH to stop. I said that he needs to want it himself. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

Erme - I wouldn't stop it right away if i was you. Like you I'm a total nic junkie. Think it might be different for people who only smoke a few a day. I'll take all the NRT that I can get. Do it when you're ready.
Think the problem with ecigs are that they medical profession aren't really up on the knowledge. I mean what's in the juice? What effect would that have on the lungs after years of inhaling it? I know they say it's harmless. But how sticky is the juice? Won't that be clinging to your throat/lungs the way that the the tar does? I'm only throwing scenarios in the mix.
I totally believe that if you find a method of stopping smoking that works for you, then good on you!!! From one who's tried to stop countless I times, I applaud you for finding something that works.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

Hi Money maker! I'm so thrilled to see you're still doing wonderfully well!!! :T:T Well done! Good to see you tried one of you DD's ice pops, they do help to stop us eating far more fattening things for sure..so keep sucking!
I quite agree with both the highlighted bits above and I do so hope your DH soon finds 'his' time.I see though why your DM-I-L so wants him to stop asap, bless her, it must be so awful to see her poor hubby suffering with COPD and know their Sun still smokes! Only natural too that she feared you might be ill, thank Heavens all is well for you - and that it stays that way, the same as for all of us who have quit!!! :j

Good points of interest, Maz. Keep trying with the rowing machine, you never know...you might actually use it someday soon! :rotfl: Even gentle walk regularly will help a great deal so don't dismiss it.Keep right on plodding along the route that WILL make you nicotine free!

Keep up the terrific work everyone, you've so much to gain.

Don't know how much but the natives are getting restless.
I can't believe women,OH and daughter both forgot to bring CCs,muggins shelled out for 5 packs of 200. I DO NOT SMOKE.
So pleased to see the forum attracting new recruits, stopping smoking is the greatest achievement of my life.0 -
Sometimes I wish that I tried the E-Cigs. Cold Turkey is soooo hard!
Day 5 here and I'm craving ciggies so bad! Fortunately, my husband works nights so when DD is in bed I can't just pop out to the shops, so at least I'm beating the cravings. Plus the weather has been awful this week, so at least I'm not having a fag outside in the rain. All these little things are adding up, so I must be successful.
I've also decided that I will treat myself to a manicure once I reach one week smoke free. It will be nice to have pretty hands and not ruin them with an ugly cigarette.
I hope all my fellow non smokers are doing well :-)0 -
Fluffy, if you can give up without e-cigs or other tobacco substitutes, great. That's the best thing!
However, you would be better with an e-cig or a nicotine patch etc than smoking!
Good luck with itLook forward to your manicure with your lovely nails and fingers which will no longer be nicotine stained

oooh dear, Denis they certainly sucked you in good and proper, but how good to be able to buy them, hand them over and say the words above! It's so good to see those words, you've done yourself proud, really really proud! :T:T:T
Good to see you back, I hope you had a lovely time.

Hi Fluffy and very well done on being FIVE days free from those horrible, nasty, smelly things! :T Two more days and you'll have been free for a whole week which will be tremendous! You're doing really GREAT and the only cravings you're suffering are the psychological ones; they're sometimes a little harder to shake off for some folk and not so for others. Keep yourself as busy as possible, but make sure it's doing things you enjoy...having something to do that you'll look forward to..something to challenge you.
The plan to reward yourself with a manicure at the 1st week is a wonderful one - you'll be able to look at them and know that you did that after giving up fags! Then look for another treat next week and so on.
You CAN do this, Fluffy!!! Any time you'd like to PM me, please do so without hesitation. Meantime, be so terribly proud of all you've done, it's all so worthwhile!

Thank you Sue and KarmaCookie. Your kind words mean a lot to me. I wish my husband was as supportive - 'if you want one, have one' - he doesn't even smoke, so you'd think he'd be more helpful lol!
Anyways, what with here, the smokefree website and their daily texts - I can do this!!!0 -
Can I join?
After smoking for approx 30 years, (minus one pregnancy), 20 a day - wow, that's scary to see it in type! After years of "I would like to stop" but not really doing anything about it, I decided a few weeks ago that I was going to stop, I finished my packet (the next evening - which I think helped, instead of getting up, putting the kettle on and going outside for the first cigarette of the day).
Wow, I can't believe I've come this far, but I do know I could very easily have one cigarette and be back on 20 a day immediately.
I have been dipping in and out of this thread and find it very encouraging. Like Fluffy's post above, I was like a demon, just as well I'm normally bad tempered, so nobody really noticed! :rotfl:I've improved (I think) I just have to find a cure for stop eating now!!! Suggestions please!
Fluffy - the first week was very hard, it does get easier, now, several times a day I think "oh, I haven't thought about smoking for a while". I'm just hoping these thoughts will get farther and farther between.0 -
Hi everyone
Nice to meet you Motherofthekid and fluffy - you are both doing really well :j:j
Just thought I would check in and say hello and catch up with how you are all doing.
Great to see all the success stories on here and for those in early days please stick with it gets a little easier every single day
Fluffy - I could and still can sleep for Britain after stopping. Not sure whether I was going to bed early because of the cravings or whether I was really more tired. Anyway I am now left with the legacy of wanting to go to bed at 9.30 every night which is a bit anti social
I am amazed at how quickly I have got to a place where I hardly ever think about the nasty nictotine anymore. Been trying to work out what was different this time as I have tried so many times unsuccessfully in the past. The only thing I can think is that I did take a few weeks to prepare myself mentally and of course it was a very public goal with a definite date. I guess I am a bit of a pride person so I would have hated to have to come back here and to all my friends and family and say I had failed on the 29th
Anyway good luck everyone as always and enjoy your smoke free weekend :T29th Feb Quit Day :j0
