That is a shameThere is a lot of support and insights to be offered from this thread, sorry if I came across as being a bit argumentative I did not mean to put you off honest
Stay strong from what you have said you have an awful lot to gain from quitting this weed for good.
Best of luck to you "You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -

What more reason and motivation do you need??? You NEED MAJOR surgery, the NHS will NOT let you have it until you are 2 months smoke free, I presume this surgery is in some going to improve your quality of life.
Are you serious? You cannot do it? Really??? Come on now GET A GRIP!
You have 3 choices:
1/ Carry on smoking and do not have your surgery you can then carry on being not only an addict but also with whatever problem you have that surgery is going to improve.
2/ Be a weak willed, self deluded person, full of excuses, nonsense and a few other things and become an E-Cig convert, not only are you then STILL nicotine dependant but you can also join the merry men and women that sing the praises of these cheap chinese poison sticks and tell everyone else that ingesting poison is actually a good idea
3/ Get the Allen Carr book out again, read it , read it, read it and read it again, if you have quit using this before you can definately do it again! It is all in your head, you know this, you are letting yourself be ruled, controlled even all for the sake of a fag! You KNOW the withdrawal from nicotine is very mild to the extent that ALL smoker experience it every night when they go to sleep, it never wakes anyone up, you KNOW this is you battling with you pure and simple, this is not some chemical imbalance in your brain MAKING you smoke, YOU are still making that decision everytime you put a fag in your mouth! You KNOW you CAN do this.
READ THE BOOK! READ IT AGAIN! and then READ IT AGAIN!
Are you really going to let this dirty, disgusting, poisoning habit determine the next chapter of your life? Has it not determined enough of your life already? It is time to take control.
There is no magic cure, you know this already, you also know you have quit before you KNOW you can do it again.
Now stop making excuses and get on with it!
Ignore the E-Cig wallowers apart from it really NOT being the answer to anybodies problem I suspect your NHS specialist meant quitting PROPERLY and not pretending and still filling your body with poison.
Use this thread for support, there are some wonderful people here who offer help and support on a daily basis, let us all help you do it, help you take control and most importantly help you get that operation that is going to improve your life!
Start now, what are you waiting for??
I wrote a big long post, but probably just as well I lost it.
Allen Carr did nothing for me, just words on paper I am afraid and like most advice and well meant lecturing and cajoling I received in thirty years of smoking it went in one ear and out of the other. I enjoyed my smokes, it was my only vice, it wasn't harming anyone else - all the excuses under the sun, I expect you had the same ones, just like the rest of us. We all do this, yes because we are addicts, so I don't think it's fair or very helpful for us 'recently converted' to preach and tell people to 'get a grip'.
I was well aware of the effects of smoking already, did it make me stop? No.
I could see for myself some of the effects, the hacking cough etc, did it make me stop? No!
Would I ever have given up, unless I wanted to? No way!
I don't think any of as addicts or ex-addicts would take to this kind of pressure to stop. Would you? It has to come from within, we have to want to stop. I don't think I would be alone in saying that any such lecturing or perceived pressure from the converted really would have sent me running the other way to buy more fags.
Part Mouse is there on the precipice ready to take the leap to freedom and will make it when the time is right and in his/her own way. Finding this thread shows a certain amount of willing and will certainly add to the momentum and increase the desire to stop.Mortgage

Och hugs Part Mouse...yeah I have a wee challenge for you....see how long you can make this packet last :j....even if it's just 1/2 a day longer than normal or a few hours then that itself is an achievement hun ....hugs....
It's not 'going down but staying down - that's the crime' (pardon my bad punctuation)...it's one of my mottos....So it's not going back onto the cigs and smoking for x amount of time but staying on them till you die....IYSWIM.
I'm sure you use that (and others too) with their own recoveries...
Anyhow flu again for me today..but at least I know I won't get a chest infection from it for vaping..
And e-cig antis...I have like no influence over what other vapers post in response to your slanderous comments about e-cigs. I don't go around PMing anyone I know whose into e-cigs to post in my defence. Life is too short to be petty.
This is thread is about not smoking not no nicotine eva....after all hands up the no nic brigade who still eats tomatoes? Well hello...they have nicotine in them

Fair point and as said it was not my intention for the post to come across as "preaching" or rude in any way, the OP said themselves they had quit before using the Allen Carr method and they were at them moment attending the Easyway classes so it seemed fitting to use the stuff learnt in the book as a way to try and motivate the OP a bit more.
Smoking is mostly a psychological addiction, you make yourself addicted and keep yourself that way, if your GP is telling you that you need major surgery but you have to give up smoking then it really should be a no brainer. I cannot think of a more powerful motivation to quit, I also wanted to make sure the OP understood this.
As I said in a previous posts, empathy and tea and sympathy is great, in the right situation, the OP seems to have had plenty of this and none of it has worked, sometimes it is better to be a little frank and to the point. Not great reading material for everyone but if you have tried nearly everything else what else is there?? More tea and sympathy? In the meantime the OP smokes more, waits longer for their major surgery, health issues increase etc etc.

I am not getting into any arguments with anyone - can i make that clear before i start guys.
I am not in anyway 'in charge' of this thread but as someone who has found the support on here very useful on my journey it really saddens me that there is so much squabbling.
My concern is that any new people who may be thinking of giving up smoking will read it and be put off - surely none of us want that.
Please for everyone's sake can we restrict the name calling, arguments ect to pm's and not post on open thread. If you have an issue with a person then resolve it like adults between you - it should not be about point scoring in front of your peers.
Giving up is not easy and at a time when we all need support we should not be falling out. I'm leaving my personal feelings out of this in the hope that others will too for the good of the thread if nothing else.
I may get backlashed for saying it - but surely life is too short guys - we've already wasted so much through smoking & i for one would like to enjoy my new smoke free life with the genuine support i have received from this thread from countless people who no longer post on here (not sure if they would come back either) because of all the angry posts
Have a good smoke free day all
Hugs

Righty ho peeps!
I don't want to smoke, I don't want to smell, I don't want to spend everyday wondering if this fag I am smoking is going to kill me. If I get a pain I don't want to worry it is cancer and it is my own fault for smoking even though I knew it was bad for me.
I JUST DON'T WANT IT
So anyone feeling the same please post and ignore the bits you don't like. I got support on here and I will always support others on here so don't be put off

Enough guys please. I've had to spend quite a bit of my morning on this one subject.
This should be a happy, supportive thread where everyone's giving each other virtual high fives and back slaps to say well done!

Try a few different ones.... see what you like? Maybe try upping your nic/ml concentration. I had to do that as I make no secret of it. I have severe mental health probs. The only route for me has been the e-cig - gradually reducing my nic/ml concentration after a few months (And I mean gradually!!!)...this has been the only thing that hasn't brought on symptoms after a few hours.
You can't say you've 'tried the e-cig' if you've only tried one at one strength with one flavour. Please give it another shot....
And as Erme says, different flavours are available. If you get on with the general idea, but don't like the taste, there are lots of different things to try.
Basically, don't give up on an e-cig and go back to smoking unless you ask for help and try other things first. Pm anyone on here who uses one and they will try their best to help anyone who is interested.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

At least it's not just me that did that :rotfl:
I don't miss having brown fingers either as a women who smoked roll ups I was constantly battling the brown fingers and I could see people look at my hands, little hands, long painted nails and grubby, smelly, brown fingers.........yukkk. To get rid of the brown I would have to scrub with a brillo and bleach AND I PAID HOW MUCH TO BE LIKE THAT??? I really have been a complete and utter nutter.
Oh I have been through the ashtrays and split all the dock ends to get the baccy out to make a fag when I have run out.........how disgusting is that????
The thing is I never really thought about it while doing it and only now do I sit back and think........yep I was an addict making excuses all the time.
Just to add 6 weeks of giving up = £60 saved :j
