Just a quick update....back home, throbbing big time but dosed up with painkillers!!
Non smoking is going fantastically!!0 -
I'm having the same hunger problems, could be the mind game? I resisted last night as I never used to eat after 8 but since the weekend I have been snacking. I don't have weighing scales in my home so I can't tell you if I have put on or not. Also I never ate or smoked till about 1-1.30pm but now I am wanting breakfast for once, not straight away mind you. Eating during the day has never bothered me it is just the night where I wont be burning it off. Last night I just told myself it was nicotine hunger and it could jog on! I was keeping busy to which was a great help, made my self an owl pincushion so I don't have to use the sofa arm anymore0

Sue-UU I didn't make myself clear the tiredness is just part of my health problems, I am I normally spend at least 80% of my time in bed due to lack of energy/pain levels and past few weeks have actually been out and about more hence me feeling this way so not worrying about lack of energy at all, was just pointing out extra exercise to help weight loss was not an option. As to e cig I am using it far less now thanks to Lotus advice and had a word with stop smoking clinic on phone, Roy Castle Centre and they told me the nicotine I using now is equal to about 6 - 8 inhalator's cartridges which is ok for a person just stopping. Is to find out how people stop feeling so hungry or dealing with the hunger I was asking about, I never thought to ask the stop smoking clinic. I am taking in only nicotine now nothing else, and I thought others here were using things like patches, inhalator's etrc so still getting nicotine, but i guess i read things wrong everyone here is going cold turkey so best I leave this thread as I just cannot do that. Since about Friday I have found each day I am getting more and more hungry and last night when getting weighed at SW I had gained 2 1/2lbs:mad:. Now no intention of buying cigs again ( I hope but certain none at moment) but what can I do to stop the weight gain - I already needed to lose 56lbs and now its gone up to 59lbs approx..........Today I woke up for first time in many years starving, I usually cannot eat before lunchtime. I know that is good but help what can I do before I gain more, extra exercise not an option as going through a tired phase so in bed a lot and no energy to even do a few mins on treadmill
Hi there
I went through the same thing as you and there are chemical reasons why this is the case. Have a look at this article which explains it:
http://whyquit.com/joel/joel_03_21_blood_sugar.html
I found myself suddenly being very, very hungry even though I had recently eaten. After having read the above link, knowing the reason why was a great help in coping with the situation. I also found that systematic meal preparation and planning helped a great deal as I would rarely find myself in the same situation- and if I was, I could deal with the issue without delay.
Alan Carr also explains that the craving for a cigarette is virtually identical to that of hunger pangs and I must say I agree- certainly for me the feeling was indistinguishable.
As regards the weight issue, remember the the old cliche about being a bit more heavy is preferable to being a bit more dead!
Here is some more info for you:

Good luck all - you can do it

p.s. hi Sue - thanks as always!I do not smoke. I last smoked on 03 November 2011. I will not give in to that awful addiction again.0 -

Oh prepareathome, you didn't read things wrong! Please don't leave, we are all using different methods or as you say going cold turkey. I myself am using a book to help. My DH was using the spray stuff. It's hard to explain about the hunger and stopping it as I have my book to help. Do you sleep alot whilst in bed or are there hobbies you like doing whilst in bed?0 -
prepareathome, don't leave the thread as it's such a valuable one for support. I know Sue doesn't want to learn more about the e-cig but it's a fact that the vast majority of people giving up will relapse and e-cigs are helping to bring these figures up to where they should be in order to save lives. This thread is to support those who are stopping smoking and that's exactly what you are doing so don't you go anywhere - smoking is the killer and if you're stopping, which you are, then you should be able to find support in here. That is what this thread is for!
I know e-cigs sound scary but if they save lives and stop people from going back to the dangers of smoking, then I'm all for them and for learning more about them. Here's a couple of recent articles for those who consider them to be scary rather than life-savers - one by Miriam Stoppard http://www.mirror.co.uk/advice/miria...5875-23701311/ and one in the Independent http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...f-6290592.html

On day nine.
The past two days I have nearly caved. The first week was a breeze so I don't know what is happening.
I even have thoughts of waiting for everyone to go out and sneak a cig
I have had a banging headache, feel sick and have a bad tummy all of which will feel better for a couple of minutes if I have a fag!!
DH has been having trouble at work which made him ill at the weekend, I am poorly, DSS is off school poorly so I am stranded in the house and a load of other excuses to push me back ...........
However, I have not had one :A- I have not got £50 to outlay on GV (buy in bulk)
- The brown has gone on my fingers and I don't want it back
- I don't miss standing outside freezing to death putting the heating bill up every time I open the door
- I felt a little better half way through typing this
- I don't smell and don't want to smell disgusting
I hope I have a better day tomorrow
I don't wish to bring down any one doing really well but thought if I was truthful and said how I was feeling it may help someone going through the same thing.
Prepareathome stay on the thread as it does not make any difference if you are going cold turkey or not it is all bl**dy hard no matter which way you go and support and understanding is helpful which ever way you choose x0 - I have not got £50 to outlay on GV (buy in bulk)

I'm wondering if the Roy Castle centre worked out the amount of nicotine in an e-cig and thought you got all of that. Which isn't true as far as we know. I've seen threads recently on vaping forums which talk about maybe only 10% of the nicotine being absorbed.
So you may not be getting as much as you think.
Btw
Dr Hilary Jones did a spot on daytime tv a while ago about e-cigs, which is interesting watching to anyone who has any interest in them.

Don't do it hun, it's bliddy freezing out there and I guarantee you'll hate it and feel bad afterwards. Can you get on the internet and treat yourself to something small but lovely. I've used my saved cig money to subscribe to glossybox so I get a few little beauty goodies
every month which I look forward to. I also love make-up so I check out youtube make-up gurus like pixiwoo, lisa eldridge and gossmakeupartist - watching them passes the time and takes my mind off other things :-)11th Heaven prizes Number 103

paidinchickens if it's any consolation I've had a bad day too....I gave up drinking 37 days ago and smoking 7 days ago.... today my head has been telling me all day that I want to go back to drinking and smoking.....
It has been telling me that life is boring without the drinking and smoking and everything would be much better if I just had a drink and a smoke.
My head is stupid - my life was horrible when I was drinking, smoking is horrible, I'm asthmatic and my breathing is soooo much better without the smoking.
My lesson for the day - do not have the first drink, do not have the first cigarette. And that's it. Today I have eaten everything I could possibly find, sweets, chocolate, cake, toast, crisps..... I don't normally eat much but today I have wanted to eat everything - I would rather be fat than killing myself smoking
So paidinchickens you'd better stay strong and report back tomorrow :T
Prepareathome - you're part of the furniture on this thread - you can't possibly leave us here now...... we need you
Sue - thankyou....you are brilliant and wonderful as always, wise wise words
This thread has been such a lovely read tonight - thankyou everyone for sharing and caring xx0
