Morning Erme and Daz.
ME...a princess, Erme??? I've been called many a thing in my time, many of them rude, but never a princess! You flatterer you. It's know good, Erme, I've got to ask, who or what is Kirk?? If it's ok to ask, if not, don't answer.
Daz take a look at your siggy, if you can shelve all that debt AND quit smoking so very well...you CAN quit or cut day a lot on the coffee! Try green tea with no sugar, sometimes having something totally different to what we're use to makes it more palatable. GT is marvellous for us too!
Take care both!

Ahh, my last nemisis. :rotfl: I will knock the excessiveness on the head soon. Got to cut down, 10 plus "hits" a day is not donig me any good, sugar isn't helping the teeth either.
Let's get through this first year though. At this rate I could possibly have put on 4 stone by the time I get to a year, even with starting regular excercise. Don't want to try and change too many lifestyle habits at once...:)
Try a free online diet like sparkpeople or something but don't take on too many things at once. The coffee can wait..
I went from about 6-10 (2 tsps in a cup) coffees a day down to four and now two....I drink tea the rest of the time but hope to reduce that in timeMorning Erme and Daz.

Tis fine Princess.....Kirk is Scottish for church like Sassenach is gaelic for stranger
So being a wee wee free (more confusion for Sue LOL) - basically an attendee/wannabe free presbyterian (of the church of Scotland. Not a paisleyite) who split from the Free Kirk in about 1900 I'm a wee wee free...If I was a member/attendee of the free kirk I'd be a wee free. Small in numbers but so were the disciples

Morning all - Glad to see that everyone seemst o be doing OK. I'm still going strong, and not really missing the smokes.
I've got an appointment with my GP this aftrnoon - nothing serious, more of a check-up. As I have a history of depression (especially around this time of year), and I've been getting mood swings over the last couple of months I want to check it out before it becomes or i risk it becomming an issue.
I explained to my gf that I was going, and that it wasn't anything to worry about, and she was completly fine. In fact *she* reminded *me* that stopping smoking might be having an effect on my moods.
So I guess today is a 'good day', no cravings, a GF who understands me more than I ever thought anyone could. Just need to sort the mood swings (and hopefully avoid another course of AD's)
Good luck to everyone0 -
I would like to keep the weight on if possible, so won't be dieting in a hurry!;) Just want to turn the "weight" into muscle so I can strut around like a cockeral. May even get a sunbed. Pot bellies, no matter how bronzed, aren't exactly sexilicious!
Yes, this is meant in jest...:p Wouldn't catch me dead Chavving it up.:rotfl:Was in debt £23k- Not now (12/07-12/10):T
Did smoke- Not any more (26-02-11):j
I am not perfect but everyone loves a trier don't they??:A0 -
Oh... and as for the caffeine debate, no point switching to tea as it is heavier laden with caffeine than John C. Swapping from one to the other would defeat it's purpose in my mind. Was in debt £23k- Not now (12/07-12/10):T

Its a busy board today.
Everyone doing so well.
Another coffee addict here too ,not ready to tackle this one yet but have noticed that I cant drink it as strong as before .smells so good tho.
I'd love to say Ive been out walking etc but its so wet and windy that Ive spent most of my holidays indoors.
Have noticed how much my house smells of smoke tho and trying to tackle this room by room !
I've not put on any weight (this time) but put on two stone odd last time which I could ill afford .
Making conscious effort to save for more constructive treats than danish pastries ha.
Keep up the good work everyone :T0 -
Thanks a lot for that, Erme, I'm a lot wiser now, after all, with princess status - I need to be! Anyway, I'm know Sassenach to Scotland, especially the north and west, fantastic!!!
BYW, Erme, congratulations on how you're doing with your coffee - absolutely marvellous!!!! :T:T

Hi Davey, I'm so sorry to hear about your depression, believe me I know what it's like, but what a wise GF you have. She's right of course that stopping smoking will have altered things, even your brain. Don't forget to mention that to your Dr.
Meanwhile Davey, please exercise as much and often as possible as releasing the endorphins into the brain (which exercise does) will help you so much in lifting the depression. At times when you're depressed try hard to really push yourself to do things you love and make a note of everything good in your life. We need to help ourselves as much as we possibly can - far better than any ADs!
All best wishes.
Hugs, Sue x
Are you certain about tea having more caffeine that coffee, Daz?? Why not go for the Decaf anyway?!! So, time to get some body building bits and bobs or go to the gym. You'd just as well turn it into muscle as that will take up the calories too!
Walking in THIS weather, ruby,it doesn't bear thinking about, stick to cleaning the house through bit by bit instead.
Great news on the 33 days, over your 1st month now...very well done indeed. :T Keep up the weight loss or I suppose that should be keep it down!

Afternoon Everyone,
Just checking in again. Had a bit of a read through the thread and would like to say a massive welcome and good luck to all the new joiners.
Prepareathome, can I just recommend Allen Carr’s book. I would never have believed that a book could change my life so much. I was a bit sceptical to say the least but I am now on day 19 (I know, still early days) but I have not had one craving, I honestly don’t even consider myself an ex smoker. I feel like I have never smoked and never will again. What have you got to lose? I’m sure you could get it for your e-readers for about the cost of a pack of fags! The only thing I would say is make sure you dedicate the time to really read and digest what he has to say. I read and reread some pages just to make sure I had it all clear in my head. Good luck with it all.
Frugal Lassie, I too thought about going to one of the group sessions. I reasoned that it would cost me 40 days worth of fags, so if I could stay off them for 40 days afterwards the course would have paid for itself. I decided to try the book first, glad I did as it seems to have saved me loads. I like knowing that there is a session near me to fall back on if I ever need it though. The money back guarantee is also a big motivator for me as the way I see it, there is nothing to lose. Best of luck to you.
I am losing weight!!!! I never thought I would be able to stop smoking and lose weight at the same time but as I am not having any craving or even thinking about smoking (until I come on this thread) I am able to concentrate on losing weight. I haven’t altered my diet drastically, just swapped some naughty habits for some not so naughty. Doing slimming world although I am not going to the group, just doing it by the books I already have and the help of the SW thread. I have also upped my exercise by loads and I am really enjoying it. Must say, life feels good at the min, I feel happy and healthy so all I need now is the wealth.
Good luck to everyone and just remember to dig deep and fight through when the going gets tough. Hugs to those who need them.Just little old me!0 -
Hello, newbie here
I stopped smoking cold turkey 12 days ago, and can honestly say that 99% of the time I have no desire to smoke whatsoever. Of course, I still get the odd twinge, but the difference for me now is that this is the first time I have stopped smoking and REALLY WANTED TO STOP!
As mentioned in earlier posts, it is the key!
Keep it up everyone, and be strong. The way I look at it, if my Nan quit cold turkey after smoking 40 a day for nearly 50 years, and my Dad quit cold turkey after smoking 30 a day for 30 odd years, I can quit my 15 a day habit... and so can you!0
