Morning JD, I'm glad I saw your pst about being away, I've registered it in my brain (don't mean much) so, hopefully, will remember this time.

Have a lovely time - and safe journeys both ways! PS, I forgot all about the Ravelry site, went there for the first time last week, very good indeed.

How could you forget about Ravelry Sue :rotfl:

Well I think I have a solution to the bed problem (still 0 found crochet hooks despite a major blitz yesterday  but did find macbook backup disk having bought another on friday and installed it   mad: x 1000)...

Get a decent radio and like listen to that as distraction ..

What irks me though is that if I were depressed rather than high they'd be admitting me in 2 secs with these thoughts :( but as it is they are not admitting me. Just telling me to sleep in the hall!!!

Anyhow just think I'm about 12 weeks (almost - will be next wednesday) bar my one blip at 9 weeks and the week after I hit the 3 month mark :)

    Yay...can't believe how well I'm doing :D

  • Hi there everyone,
I wondered if I could ask for some support please and join in? I stopped smoking several years ago using Allan Carr's method and didn't want a cigarette for a good eight years. I started again about a year and a half ago. For some reason I felt left out when all my smoking friends (and my husband) left the table to go out for one leaving me with only a couple of people to chat to. I started going out with them just for the blether, and one thing led to another. Now I've a 30 a day habit again. I'm disgusted with myself. It wasn't easy stopping smoking with hubby just carrying on puffing, and a colleague of mine puffing away in my home office, but I did it, and stopped for a long time. Now I feel I've completely let myself down and am back to stage one again.
The worst thing, as far as I'm concerned, apart from the financial (nearly£7 a packet!!!) and health thing is that it absolutely does exacerbate my migraine, and also makes me very anxious. When I was a non smoker, I felt healthier, was definitely happier, had fewer migraines, wasn't at all anxious, and smelt better!
I'm intending to cut down and psych myself up to stop, and will use Allan Carr's book again as it did help me.
I can't believe I've got myself into this situation again!

Well you've come to the right place frugallassie...

Know we are here for you - and as I say it's not going down (or going back/on the cigs) that's the crime but staying down (i.e being on them for the rest of your life)..

So know that this is the first step in the road to recovery and you can and will do it :j

Yeah try the Allan Carr book again. If you're short of funds try getting it from the library/amazon/abebooks...

If that doesn't work there's other options. I personally am on the e-cig but still. I'm a complicated case ;)

Hugs and welcome to the thread

  • Thank you for the welcome Erme, and yes, I agree with what you said re the staying down. I really enjoyed (by and large) being a non smoker. There were so many plusses and so few minuses.
Having done it before, yes, I agree, I can do it again.
I have my trusty Allan Carr book on the shelf, it's just getting it into my head that that last cigarette really is the last one, and I WONT miss them! :)

Aye, we live in a small town in the Highlands. :D Freezing here atm, but I quite like that at this time of year. The recent warm spell completely flummoxed me!
I'm glad I kept hold of the Allan Carr book too. Also thinking I might use my clubcard points to buy a session with the easyway coach in Aberdeen. Not sure though. It's either that or save them up for ferry tickets..... Decisions Decisions Funny that I don't think twice before handing over £6.90 for a packet of fags! :rotfl:

Hi Erme, I've only been to Ravelry the once so can be forgiven for forgetting it.

Hi and a warm welcome to you, Thrawn Frugal Lassie. What a rotten shame you were led into smoking again after all that time!!! :( Still, what's done is done, time now for you to get back to where you were and have the chance of a far healthier life. I'm so please you still have your AC book...study well and do please, keep right away from other smokers and please don't allow them in your house or office! Be blunt with them, it's your right!!

8 years is a long time to have been free, so all being well, you CAN get back to being a non-smoker as soon as possible. In future when smokers, or those who want to chat with them, go on outside you stay in the warm and dry; it's their lives they're risking..please don't let them spoil yours! They have no right, so be strong and tell yourself that you have absolutely NO desire to get anywhere near cigs or to stink of smoke...and certainly not to ever risk your health again as it's so very precious to you.

Migraines are bad enough when they come naturally, but when they're exacerbated by the fags then it's just never, ever worth it.

You're very welcome to as much support as you need and please do join in as we'd love to have you with us. Do as Chrissie does and be by yourself somewhere and immerse yourself in AC's book and get ready again.

You know where we are, please join us whenever you wish. All very best wishes,

    Sue x

Och wow lassie...yeah I don't sound like I'm far from you. If you come to Aberdeen (any day bar Sundays) let me know and we can meet up and I can show you my 'peace pipe' (as lovely sue calls it)

Sue still no crochet hooks :(. Your powers are not working love tee hee...

Och I need you to use them so I can get back in the bedroom :money:

Just to sleep of course. Not for any other reason...

Anyhow vanilla on the burner from Mr. S (was cheaper than buying a candle)....

And will need to order some more nic juice when I have the monies (no later than 3 weeks time) as am getting a bit low on that but since getting the tank the cartos are lasting longer (they were lasting a day - they are cheap enough but still it was about £35 every 6 weeks) so costs are lower. Leaks a little when I first top up but seriously any serious e-cig users need to get a tank :A
