and it used to be that the smokers always had the best craic at parties etc... but now you miss out! altho I do like that quiet few minutes when everything is hectic elsewhere.0

If I get stressed one product I have found very useful is Rescue Remedy from the chemists. A couple of squirts on the tongue just calm me down without me really realising it. I bought the spray bottle for about £8 almost a year ago and I'm still using it. NRT without the N!
Why not use it whenever you're stressed or tempted now then, shinyhead? I'm a great advocate of the stuff as it's mavellous and perfectly natural too. If you're going through tough times and attempting quitting again then keep it by you and use whenever you need to as it could be all you need!!
That might help you through your time at the moment too, o2b! Worthwhile getting yourself a bottle from your Pharmacist or health products shop. I always keep some in. Don't be too hard on yourself though, you're doing so very well and life hasn't been kind, so ride the storm and IF you NEED a puff or two now and again then do so. Alternatively you could read through the Quitter's Pledge and bear it in mind at times when you're tempted:
Tell yourself every morning "I'm not going to smoke at all today, but if I wish to, I may smoke tomorrow." Repeat that pledge every morning, it tricks your mind and makes things more bearable.
Sue xx
Oh dear Lucy, that's such a shame, but I think most of us would be able to see why ros can often bring the smoker back into play, even if only for a short while. Try to look at it in the light of "you are NOT going to get me into a state where I go and have a fag, absolutely no way!!!!" Then go on upstairs and knock 7 bells out of a pillow! Read below about what I've quoted from shineyhead, my reply too - it could well be your saviour too!
Sue xx
A very warm welcome to a new life, boschiba! The pledge above may help you at times when you're coerced back into the smokers world, darned expensive place to be too! Stick with us here and whenever you're feeling lured...stop and think whether there's a reason for it, if so then try to get passed it and/or come on here and tell us how you feel, but you obviously have it within you to be free of them, we all do! Lets see how you go after AC's book.
All the best, Sue x
Don't forget everyone, you need to keep on the right road to get to the right destination. You can't afford the cash or health problems that come along with smoking, ditch the 1 bad and keep the 2 good! You're all doing great however far you've come so keep right on praising yourself and giving yourselves the treat you deserve.

hi sue, tried the Glucosamine rub. Wasn't much cop tbh. Have a lovely swelling on my left elbow but not on the actual joint, so don't know if it's a start of another type of arthritis. I'm like the old nag, they should just shoot me now :rotfl: But then, I came downstairs this morning to find my pills still sat on my desk, as u can see I'm as consistent with them as I am with my nic patches :rotfl:4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Thanks for the welcome back Sue, I had a few personal crises such as end of job contract, marriage separation and so on. These minis seem to be working well so far, but I am going through a lot. It's early days yet though, and if I see that I'm still consuming at the same rate I'll probably get some patches. Don't really want to do that if possible, as when I use them whilst I don't want to light up, they send me into a semi-soporific state! Sleep gets disturbed too.

Yeah I should get that in..thanks for the reminder.... I often get stressed or just even slightly anxious and I have found it really good in the past
Well good news - mouthpieces from china came today....Am a bit down but since changing back to the lower voltage e-cig (I sold the big one and the mouthpieces for £80... ) I notice I've been vaping less. I'm also eating more and haven't calorie counted since yesterday. I know what I can eat so why worry? I didn't go on the scales 101 times yesterday after speaking to the nurse about my eating so quite pleased. So long as I drink all my water why worry? The weight will come off in it's own dear time...
I've been using the spray a bit more but only when I've had mega bad cravings but then when you consider I've practically cut the volume I'm vaping in half is it any wonder. See how it is after 6 weeks (I've only been on the lower volume 10 days) and then worry. Hopefully after 6 weeks I'll be using less spray...
Can anyone believe I've been almost 8 weeks cig free on the e-cig? Certainly not me ...Never gone this far in years with so little probs...
Btw I wouldn't get a cheap e-cig right now from deal extreme - notoriously unreliable for postage and delivery. If you go on ukvapers you should be able to find a disposable one for £10 or less including delivery....that should do you

Hi there caracara! Thanks so much for your remarks - and I saw your lovely post on SPC that you were thinking of me when you were cycling home on the day of my op, that was sooo very sweet.
You're singing my praises on a knitting forum??? Be careful or they'll be dropping stitches everywhere and.....blaming ME!!!
I only spur you on, nowt else. By the way, at the latest Physio session she praised me up as I'm regaining the muscle so well!! :j:j:jThough no one will ever get me in an arm lock as it just won't go behind me, but there's a heck of a lot of worse things, so I'm not too bothered.
With your hand to mouth problem, don't forget to get a box of Ice Pops/Poles from the supermarket or buy and individual one instead of the pop in the paper shop! See, another reason for thinking of me!!! :rotfl: Ahhh, you'll soo be cursing me soon..like a tune you can't get out of your head!!
Keep at it cara, you're doing SOOOO well!!
Hugs, Sue xx
Oh dear Maz, I wouldn't say you're a hopeless case, but if you pushed me to then.........:silenced: See, I stopped meself! Do try the Glucosamine& Chondroitin pills though as they get inside and to the arthritis areas thoroughly via the bloodstream. Stick your pills and patches on your bedside table or somewhere you DO see them when you're due to take them! Got it?!!!:wall:
Sue (exasperated) x
Hiya Erme and VERY WELL DONE YOU!!!! 7 weeks free from fags is brilliant and much to be so thrilled about!! :T:T:T Just think though of the time when you're free from your pipe of peace!!! :rotfl:One day Erme, one day, but well done for THIS day!

Hi I want and need to stop smoking and keep stalling the longest I have managed is 4 days usually less then I cave in! I am absolutely rubbish! Hoping that joining in will give me the kick I need and keep me going this time! I have tried patches in the past and they make my skin itch and really sore!
To those that have managed to stop who used to smoke a packet a day did you just stop cold turkey, cut down or use nicotine replacement?
Well done to everyone that has quit!!0 -
Hello blue and welcome to the thread, to a life free from smoking too soon I hope! To answer your question
"To those that have managed to stop who used to smoke a packet a day did you just stop cold turkey, cut down or use nicotine replacement?"
Personally, I quit using cold turkey, simply because I had a feeling I had to do it that way (to my mind) the quick way. However, everyone's different and we all need to try what appeals best and if we're not successful one way to try another. Even if we don't find one way suits us one time it doesn't mean to say that another time it might b totally different; though I'd advise against the patches again as, like many people, you're obviously reacting to them in a bad way.
Have you tried Alan Carr's books/CDs? Many folk have has success with him, worth a try at last. Pop into your Drs and have a word with your cessation Nurse, they can give great advice on a personal level, it's also good to have the regular 1 to 1 appointments and advice that they give. If you haven't got on then make an appointment with your Dr, he/she will be delighted you're stopping!
Read through this thread and the previous two (links are at the end/beginning of each) as there's a wealth of advice and information at your disposal day and night!!! You'll get as much support and help on this thread as you need each day so always tell us exactly how you're feeling, good or bad, we love to help so please, just ask!
All the very best in doing what you obviously want/need to do.

Well the minis are keeping the cravings at bay. I really threw them down my neck the first couple of days but I'm now using less. I've almost used my first blister pack of 3.
I'm a bit surprised at these as a long time ago I stopped using the microtabs, but I found I'd just swapped one habit for another and was on them a year later! I don't think I'll be on these that long, nice as they are!0 -
Welcome blue!
There is a lot of help available when attempting to stop smoking. The first few times I used the patches I was itchy as hell. These ones don't seem so bad, but they don't stick too good so have to stick em under my jeans so they last the day (nicotinell). I've tried Champix, patches, gum, lozenges... Tried everything except hypnosis. This time I'm on a combination of Patches (when I remember to put them on) and the oral spray. I keep an empty ecig on my desk for something to do with my hands :rotfl: This has been my most successful attempt so far, even though I've had a wee slip up or 2. (had a couple of smokes on saturday night with a few beers). Not going to beat myself up about that, the only thing it did for me was give me a headache. Guess it was all the toxins going back in:( Still counting it in with my stop, but don't want to hide that I've done it. You will do it if the time is right, and good luck!
Anyhoo, maz is rambling again. 1month, 2 weeks and 5 days :j:j and a saving of almost £600!!! Where the hell did i find that kind of money every month?!?4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
