    Hi there Erme,

In answer to you query about being free from nicotine after 3 days:

Our mind and body becomes 100% free from nicotine after 72 hours of ending all use. The only cravings left with us afterwards are psycological ones from years of smoking (the habit) and the fixation of thoughts of what we 'believe' we miss, which is not true just simply old nick trying to pull us back into the habit we've had for so long.

I see your help to djenks, but she hadn't realised how brilliantly she's already doing. I'm sure she'll be ok if she sticks with us and with the advice/tips here and in the PM I've sent her. Anyone using anything that still has nicotine in it, will obviously not be free from nicotine properly until they do stop using it. In general people have greater success with quitting if they go cold turkey which is why I'm always nagging you!!!;)

I hope you're soon free from the stress you have Erme, but at least you handled it far better this time - good for you! Try catching up on the sleep, it'll make it all esier. Little by little, you'll get there. I've just tried to find your photos....but where exactly are they on DFW?

Quite agree with the sewing machine, no good to me at the mo due to my hand/arm/shoulder problems. I love sewing though.

Look after yourself Erme...don't forget mind, just 3 days and you'd be free!!! ;)

1 Week, 1½ Days Cold Turkey

[I thought it was 48 hours for the nicotine to get out of your body? Don't know...where did you get this piece of info from? (not having a go just curious)]

    Hi Erme

It's ok, I didn't think you were having a go.

I got that information from the Whyquit website. It also seems to be the general concensus on this thread.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday with your Mum.:)

Hello and a warm weclome aboard caracara and to alibob!

You'll get a lot of support and help here, caracara, also to you both, there are several people who have just started quitting so chuck the fags and be part of a group of people who know exactly what you're going through. Likewise, you too will be support for them!

Really concentrate on your health, alibob, by needing the operation this is a great chance to stop and STAY stopped for the good of health. Take note of the PM that I've sent as it says a lot about how quickly the chest can clear and will make a huge difference to the anaesthetic.

BOTH OF YOU please take note below:

Try the following Quitters Pledge every day: (or as many times a day as you need)

Tell yourself every morning "I'm NOT going to smoke at all today, but IF I wish to, I may smoke tomorrow." Repeat that pledge every morning, it makes things more bearable to do it in bitesizes.

Always remember that choosing not to smoke is something you want to do and by not having them - it will not hurt you in any way! In fact the reverse is true as your health will start to pick up straight away.

You don't need those dirty, smelly, evil killers in your life - you have a far better life than fags offer - with them you may even destroy it!! You're better than that and YOU CAN BEAT IT!!! :D

Come on back and ask any questions and tell us your feelings, it'll do you good.

All the best to you both and alibob - you could put the money saved on smoking into your Sealed Pot!!! See you over there!

    Sue xx

thank you still no ciggies smoked
couldnt afford to smoke really so cant afford to put money aside but have set up the silkquit monitor which i see as showing the money i would of spent. i seemed to find it some how but not sure where from smoked about anything from 6 to 20 a day (years back i was on anything up to 50 fags a day but i try not to think about that because i would cry about the money lost and damage done) any way thanks again
    Thanks to all :A

  • haha Sue I may add it to my sealed pot, who knows!?! That did make me smile. I am just having a look at my PMs now, thanks for taking the time to send them :)
I have been about......3 hours now without one, which isn't long and feeling it right now! Am not in a good mood at all today, lack of sleep due to a pain in the bum toddler, her dad's been annoying me today too and I am just generally fed up and feeling down today :( Still, having a cig won't change that will just make me feel bad for giving in so will have to keep noseying aropund on here and occupying myself that way!

    On notice to newcomers....

Sue No offence but have tried various methods and after 20 hours or less I'm really psychotic if I reduce my nicotine levels too soon...Every medic on my team at that point tells me to go back to the cigs.....it's cheaper for them than a psych admission LOL

Hi UnionGirl, it can be found on Whyquit, NHS or any other quitting website/thread - including this one! ;) More great news from you with getting a week & 1/2 days away from the old life you lived. You're doing so very well UG, have a great weekend and be proud of all you've achieved so far, you've so many reasons to be.

Hi again caracara, you are welcome to the help, my pleasure. You've already done amazingly well on having decreased the amount you smoked from around 50 per day to a 6 to 20!!! That is excellent!!! :T:T I understand what you mean when you say you could cry about the money lost and damage done, but do try to put that behind you as I can assure you, we all feel exactly the same. The sad thing is that it's still going on now with kids taking it up every day not giving the cost or consequences a thought - yet they know all too well the damage that can happen as they are given all the graphic details, shown them too!!! They may be able to afford it now, but...for how much longer and when they are addicted!!!

Try to put all that behind you caracara and move on from now as you still have the chance to turn your life around and get your health back in order by a great deal. Well done for downloading the Silkquit and yes your right, it will at least let you know how much of saving. Press on caracara, you've done great already now go the extra mile - you CAN do it!

Hi alibob and thanks a lot for updating your sig, you're a gem. ;) Please ask your DH/partner to give you a lot of support and love right now, both will help you a lot. Don't forget that feeling fed up and feeling down can also be due to womenly problems or you may be like it as you've prepared yourself to quit and feeling a bit edgy. Try some of the things I've suggested on the PM and see if they'll help. 3 hours is still a very good time though, especially on that first day, so hold your head up, be very proud of yourself and keep praising yourself as you're doing great!!! :T Don't forget the quitters pledge tomorrow morning, that and all the other tips will help you enormously - look forward to getting your life back alibob!!!!

Don't worry Erme, no offence taken (couldn't be) you know me and I just like to kid you along, hence the winking smilie. I thought you knew me by now. You're doing great and you know it you old (metaphorically speaking, of course) rascal, keep it going....and where abouts are those photos on DFW?

    Sue x

All the very best everyone, when a craving hits, hit back and don't let it get the better of you, you're better than that deserve to be free!!!

Sue...I've found them :D (please don't fall off your chair LOL)...

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=46019575&postcount=4249

So yesterday I was on about 1-2 rollies an hour....Hated myself for it.....more when tired.....

Hacked like only I can on bad tobacco or any tobacco (it didn't sound pleasant)...debated putting all the tobacco down the loo last night but didn't...hacked even more....

This am 1/2 oz of tobacco down the loo :T.....

I know technically it's a waste but I still have the best part of an oz left should I give in after 2-3 days. Praying I don't. Am going to up nicotine concentration in e-cig to be on the safe side. :)....and keep it there for 8 weeks!!!. I'd rather have a high concentration of nicotine in my e-cig for 8 weeks then reduce, rather than a low one and go back to the cigs after 3 weeks. I have learnt . - believe me....

So yeah - got more fabric yesterday :)...so it's ironing the first lot I pre washed today and baking for the nurses that were so good to me the other day...

Incidentally - my local NHS trust is banning smoking on all wards come the first of october - though there will be provision made for psych patients who need to smoke.....so me and a manager are off to my local acute ward on the 25th to discuss it.....and we're taking the smoking cessation worker with us :)...should be interesting :)

Of course we're not just discussing the smoking ban but other ward general issues...though not complaints against staff..... there is a reference group I sometime go to and that discusses national health politics and like hospital issues so we're going to advertise that....

    So yeah.....that's me :)

  • Thanks Sue..I think most of the feeling down is due to womanly problems to be fair and after eating some chocolate and watching a few chick flicks last night and getting an early night I am feeling much better :) I don't have an OH/DH though so doing it oin my own. Both times I have successfully (well if you can call it that when i go back to them after 2 years?!) have been with another person, first time with my mum and had a boyfriend at the time who was non smoking who was sup[portive, second time I quit with another boyfriend so had some support there, am finding it really hard on my own as there's nobody there to rant/get support from when I thinik "oh one won't hurt (it does!)" or "Oh i don't even care I will just smoke", I do care and I don't want to smoke but when there is nobody around reassuring you that you're doing really well it's hard to ignore. Or maybe I am just weak for needing someone else to lean on?? I don't know, but either way I will be hanging around here a lot when I get cravings! Have been 21 hours now :) Feeling more determined than usual this time round though so smokers pledge being repeated and here we go, hello Saturday! :)

Good to meet you Erme! Great shots and it's nice to see your outlook on life and all that pleases you. Get out and about with that camera as much as possible..it's a wonderful way to help yourself quitting wise and with MH problems.

Not sure if you meant you'd chucked the baccy down the loo or coughed ('hacked') it down there, either way it didn't sound great!!!

Just a though Erme, but you menioned having more on being tired, any help if you were to lie down/kip in an armchair to take you away from the moment and make you feel more refreshed, even if it was only 10-20 mins. Anyway, all the best with your upping the nicotine in the vapouring.

    Take care!

    Love, Sue xx

Very well done on thinking about what was best for you last night alibob, chocolate and watching a few chick flicks is doing what I'm always going on about - focusing on doing something to free the mind from the very thing we don't want to think about. You did just that, you did great!!! Plus you have another day to chalk up, be sooo proud of that!!! :T:T

I understand what you mean about not having anyone with or around you to urge you on and to help out, that's why we give as much help here as possible...it's also where you get to be able to lean on someone; they might not always be here, but just write down how you feel whether anyone is here or not as writing alone is starting to free your system and is helping you.

I don't care if you come on here and rant 20 times a day, in fact I'd encourage you to! There aren't many days that I'm not here, please use me when I am as I love helping folk - especially to quit fags and get their lives back!

It isn't easy to quit fags and NO-ONE is ever weak on needing someone else to lean on!!! You can lean on us here alibob - why not! By my reckoning you have quit for 33 hours now and that is terrific and so much to be delighted by - keep at it alibob, you know you CAN do it!!! Smokers pledge ready for Sunday!!! Well done! :D

    Love, Sue xxx

  • Thanks Sue :) Definitely helps to do things to take your mind off it. I was going to go entirely cold turkey but was really struggling yesterday so got an inhaler thing, it is the best NRT I have ever used for me. PAtches irritate me and gum just burns my mouth, tabs don't do anything but this is great. I am only using it when I get a really strong urge so hopefully it's just taking the edge off. I have now gone *checks time* 44.5 hours :) I am loving how clear my chest feels and the fact I don't stink, I have always hated the smell of smoke on my clothes and now I don't have it it's great. I also love the fact that I don't have to keep going outside to stand in the rain (beautiful summer this year hey lol) and am just generally very proud :)
My mum doesn't help much though, when we were out yesterday she ssaid she would buy me some NRT but when it got to it she was like "Are you sure you want this and don't just want me to get you some fags?"......when she says things like that I can go from being totally focussed and determined to quit to omg yes I want cigs of course I do and it's 10x harder to say I want the NRT. Think I'll have to have a word if she says that again, I appreciate she is helping me out by paying for the stuff but I hate when she words it like that lol.
Actually though, doing pretty good on the whole, not too bad. NOt going to get cocky though, I know this isn't easy!
