36 Hours Smoke Free!
Small achievement in the grand scale of things but an achievement all the same.
Here's to keeping it up!0 -
5 Days 13 hours Cold Turkey
Well done wee_plumb :T. Don't knock it, any time spent not smoking is a great achievement. We've just got to keep it up.
I'm just looking forward now to getting a week under my belt. Never stopped as long as that before (or 5 days actually without being ill)!
Still eating lots and put on a bit of weight already but I'll give it a couple of weeks before I look to cut down on the snacking. If it keeps me from smoking it's ok with me for just now :rotfl:As my Mum always said "Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves"0 -
I gave up nearly 5 years ago and I feel like I never smoked in the first place!0

42 Hours Smoke Free
Struggling!! All I want right now is a cigarette. It's bizarre - I know it'll taste rotten and after the first draw I'll force myself to smoke the rest. Deep breath - I CAN DO THIS!0 -

Oh dear Brenda, I think we both must have shed tears because as soon as I saw your name I was so thrilled, and then so shocked to realise you were home, and sooo early too!! Then I must admit to having tears of sheer joy as I'm so terribly relieved for you! You sound so almost deliriously happy and so relieved it's all over and I can so easily understand that.
You have your life back Brenda, enjoy living it....smoke-free. What great news to hear you're now nicotine free!! :T:T:T Recuperate well my friend and look to the future, a very bright one! :j

Me too, jonnyboi and look how much better health will be as a result!! Thank you so very much indeed for posting about your success and helping others along the way, it really does serve as a great inspiration for so many. A huge thanks, congratulations too!

Hi Gina and a very warm welcome to the thread and a great life ahead without smoking interfering in it for you and your partner. Very well done on having achieved 3 weeks, that's great going! Patches can be irritating for quite a few people so it's good to hear the inhalator he's helping you; just be careful it doesn't prolong the 'fingers to mouth action' old habit that we associate so well with smoking. You've both set a great time to quit as anything fresh in our lives is always a good incentive.
You did marvellously in quitting for 4 years so you know you can achieve it again, plus you'll have the support of your partner and in turn you can support him. I'm sending you a PM, read through and you'll see there are some helpful tips to help you along. There are also some tips in there for helping you keep weight off, but increasing exercise will help you a great deal too. If you have a look over the last page or two you'll find that dundeedoll (DD) has put quite a few links, some to a few graphic details so be warned. Have a look at all the links that she's put there, I'm sure they'll help.
Don't forget, we're here for you, and even if it doesn't seem as if anybody's online at the time you're here, still write down all your feelings, good and bad, as it always helps to get it out of your system.
All very best wishes to you both and remember giving up smoking will give you your lives back - the most important thing we quit for!
Sue x
Excellent news, wee_plumb!! 3 days is a great achievement after you've just started on the path of quitting, be proud, very proud. :T
I was so surprised to then see that you have been really struggling since your earlier post, that you had a great attitude then by enforcing the fact that yes, you can do this! Remember what to do at such times in future, drink a glass of water or just sip a glass of water. Eat an apple or peel an orange to eat; run stairs and on a day like today looking at the window take a few breaths of air, then pop downstairs again and do a few exercises. Have you got any ice pops in? If not get yourself some as there are long-lasting, ice-cold relief from cigarettes - and remember you no longer need those in your life as life still goes on without them, I promise you! Keep up the great work wee_plumb, you'll get there so long as you do!
Very well done indeed, UnionGirl, 5 days already - you're doing great!! It's good to know that you're aiming for that week, keep at it and show yourself just how strong you are, have determined too!Good for you in helping wee_plumb, as not only are you help her, but your help yourself more from you possibly know, great work! I understand what you mean about the snacking, but try and bring in some fresh fruit, celery or carrot sticks, prepared ready and in the fridge waiting for snacking times. If you can half and half it, you'll be much better off. Keep going strong, and well done!
Keep pushing on everyone, and remember that if you have a bad day, it's been proved that almost always a good day will follow - look forward to it.

Hi All, today is the first day of my attempt to stop smoking! I only started up again in March, before the I had been stopped for a year! My biggest struggle is the habit rather than the nicotine addiction. I started a new job just after I started up again and so now going for a ciggie is in my daily work routine. Really feeling the urge right now..0

Hello fruityfairy and a very warm welcome to the thread and to a far, far better life that awaits you. You know that you CAN do it as you've done so before, so pick up the determination you had before to give you the help to go forward again!
Try to remember whatever it was that made you start smoking again last time, if you can pinpoint the reason then you have a much better chance to get past that this time around and succeed for good. That is quitting!
Read the PM I've sent thoroughly as there really are some great tips to help you through. Also try the following every day:
Tell yourself every morning "I'm NOT going to smoke at all today, but IF I wish to, I may smoke tomorrow." Repeat that pledge every morning, it maks things more bearable to do it in bitesizes.
Always remember that choosing not to smoke is something you want to do and by not having them - it will not hurt you in any way! In fact the reverse is true as your health will start to pick up straight away.
You don't need those dirty, smelly, evil killers in your life - you have a far better life than fags offer - with them you may even destroy it!! You're better than that and YOU CAN BEAT IT!!!
Keep telling us how you feel and praise yourself so much for every hour passed, it's a HUGE achievement and if I can live my life without them in it for 12 years....you've just started to do the same!

Thank you Sue for taking the time to PM me, I will read this later when I have a craving for a cigarette! The last time I quit I did it completely cold turkey which worked perfect for me but unfortunately put on almost a stone in weight!! I am determined this time to use NRT for a short while to get me over the worst of it (5 weeks is my goal) then stop using them and just concentrate on exercising. That's the plan anyway!!
Thank you again
Gina
