Just thought Id pop in and say hi as its my first day as a non-smoker...biggest incentive ever, trying to conceive :j I gave up smoking using champix 3 years ago for 18 months so I know I can do it again! Can anyone recommend any good iphone apps?

Hi madkitty, such a sad shame you went back to fags, but there you go. If you don't have the incentive to quit for real now then, what can I say.

For good iphone apps, and there are many, go through to itunes and put in a search for "Quitting smoking" and you'll soon see many apps to choose from. Your best bet then is to read through the reviews to see what folk think.

All the very best of luck with quitting for good this time..and whatever the reason - NEVER give into thoughts of 'just one puff or fag' it just isn't worth it.

Hi there rubytwilight, it's good to see you though a real shame you couldn't stick to it either. :( I wish you all you need for it to be really successful this time round.

    All the best girls.

Yes I know full well you barely understand the e-cig lingo LOL

Don't worry Sue...you've always been kind to me yet not scared to reprove when necessary. I value that

Hi Erme, it's good to see you back again! Try as I might I just can't seem to work out how it all works...but then I don't do complicated! :rotfl: I can do reproving though, so long as it's to folk who I know can take it. ;)

Take care Erme and always make sure...you puff the right end!!! :rotfl:

Always thinking of you, and take care of that ankle.

  • Hi all!

I've been reading some of the messages on this thread and you seem like a lovely supportive bunch, so I've decided to post a quick message to say good luck to everyone on giving up/staying off cigarettes! :-D

I'm on day 2 of giving up with patches...so far I'm doing ok, but I do find myself thinking about smoking quite a lot. Does this improve with time?

Well done on your second cig free day. on my past experience thoughts of smoking are def more intense in the beginning.

Try and keep yourself busy and plan some nice but healthy things to do , go for a walk , play music you like etc.

I like having things that smell good around to encourage me as well"!

    Good luck to you:T

Hi Sian and a warm welcome to the thread. You're in good company as there are now 4 of you all having stopped at roughly the same time, and it always seems to help as you can support each other and know that you're going through the same feelings.

You're right, there are a lovely supportive bunch, and all being well, you will be here to join us in supporting others as well as yourself. We soon feel able to help and advise each other which is great.

To answer your question that I've quoted above; yes it does improve with time, and the further away from your last fag you get the better and the easier it is to forget those nasty little devils! At first we all seem to go through a time where we miss it, almost grieving for a lost friend, but once we realise why this happens it's far easier to move on and push that so-called friend further and further away from our minds. After all, it has no right to plague us and we soon learn not to let it!! We have no room left for it in our lives and it doesn't deserve to be there anyway!

rubytwilight has given you some very good tips above, take note of them and act on them whenever you need to as it's things like that which help us get through. Keep your mind focused on anything you possibly can, always bring to mind beautiful thoughts when you need to push out thoughts of times gone by. We fill our lives doing as many lovely things as is possible, we fill our heads and hearts with lovely memories, now's the time to put bring them to the surface. Write some down so you have them ready when you need them, you'd be surprised how it can help.

All very best wishes to you Sian, you also KJ, rubytwilight and madkitty, you have all made a great decision, I hope you all managed to fulfil it. Chat regularly on here and help yourselves through it.

    Sue x

Brenda, I'm still thinking of you and hoping for very good things to happen just as soon as is possible. {Hugs} Sue x

  • Hello All,

I would like to join you friendly bunch if I may.

I have been smoking on and off for several years (35+) with several attempts to quit, I have managed up to about 8-12 months and then gone backwards.

Anyway I have not smoked now since Sunday, reason to spur me into action was going to the Doctor with Chest Infections and been diagnosed with Asma (excuse spelling) and given steroids and an inhaler. After taking the course of steroids I was no better so on Sunday decided to quit as I could not sleep properly with the coughing and felt exhausted.

Well I guess I am doing pretty well, the cough is still there, prob due to lung clearing themselves, but I thinkt he weasyness is going. I have had cravings tonight, but I don't want to fail this time. I have also just become redundant from work so also do not want to be throwing away £6.00 a day in killing myself.

Anyway sorry for the woffle, but thought if I put it down here it may help my our mission to be free.

    Thanks

    R

Hello all! :) Congratulations to those who have decided to quit as well :-) Rossie_cheeks it sounds like you're doing the right thing by quitting!!!

I'm just finishing day 2 cold turkey and whilst finding it difficult I'm putting the saved money in my jar and trying to keep busy. I've been ok Monday and Today as I work 10am - 7pm and it's 1.5hr commute on the train either side so I've only really had to battle with not smoking first thing in the morning, on breaks at work and when I get home. I could still light up one but I was around a few friends today who were smoking and I wasn't actually bothered at all! I didn't think "Oh my god I need a fag" or "How disgusting", I just felt apathetic and like I really didn't care.

Kiwisaver - i LOVE that Silkquit program for the PC-very easy to use and it's brill :) Thank you for that!!

Thank you for the tips rubytwighlight and Sue :)

Dear Brenda, I was so very pleased to see you now have a date for the op, wonderful news! :) I think we can all understand a little of the terror you must be experiencing as I doubt if there are any of us here who have never wondered whether the effects of smoking would some day catch up with us! I know for me it was my biggest fear, the fear that finally pushed me into knowing I had to give up! My greatest wish right now is the success of the op and for the surgeons to be able to fully remove the cancer.

Easier said than done I know, but do try not to worry too much Brenda, keep up the positive outlook you have and try to look forward to what could very well be - the gift of good health again! I'm sure you know, without anyone saying, that you'll have a lot of dear people here thinking about you and wishing you the very best of good health. We'll be longing to see you back here with us just as soon as you're able! I hope you still have a few words for us before you go in. Thank you so much for coming on today Brenda. :)

Love, best wishes and {{{{huge hugs}}}}, Sue xxxx

    To everyone
, please take note of Brenda's quoted sentence above, I'm sure it's a message of hope for you all to please quit smoking and quit for good!

A warm welcome to the thread
, Rossie_cheeks. Congratulations on making the most of the chest infection and having the good sense to finally stop smoking! To keep smoking would only make things worse, especially now you have asthma. So you've made a very wise move, one you won't regret if you stick to your plans. I was so pleased to see that you've already noticed a difference in the weasiness, I noticed that it went so quickly and that alone spurred me on so much. You too are in the great company of 5 of you all having stopped at about the same time! Is there something in the water perhaps?!

It's so good to have quite a few on here stopping smoking together and really does help you support each other. You're all going through the same feelings, always keep that in mind. Read some of the posts above Rossie, and you'll find there are some good tips of what to do and how you can help yourself, and in a short time, the ability to help others too. Keep nice and busy and throw yourself into quitting! Try the pledge below and see how that helps:

Tell yourself every morning "I'm not going to smoke at all today, but if I wish to, I may smoke tomorrow." Repeat that pledge every morning, it maks things more bearable to do it in bitesizes.

Come on everyone.....you can all do this! Remember from the onset, the greatest thing you can give yourself is the gift of life and you're doing this now for life, your LIFE!!!!
