Absolutely brilliant news ixia!! The first time we come anywhere near any friends or family that smoke is terrifying, but having come so close to them and so quickly you've done wonderfully well! I was so pleased to hear that you'd had a much better nights sleep, so perhaps taking the tablets earlier is right to you, I do hope so. I'm not quite sure why, being on day 9 of champix, you're still craving, or thinking about ciggies so much; very often with people they start to go off the idea of cigarettes straight away. Still hopefully very soon that'll be that way for you.

Wishing you a very, very Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful fags thought-free day. :bdaycake:

Donald, if you're still looking in then do have a good old read of the posts on the thread as you may well find a lot of things that will help you, I really do hope so. It would be nice to know how you're going and what thoughts you've had about quitting. All the best.

You're still in early days yet Kiwisaver, and that nasty old Nick will still try his hardest to persuade your mind that you've done the wrong thing in sopping, but you know better. No doubt though that whenever those moments come they only last a short while, right? They thoughts very often used to get the better of me after I'd quit, but just as a Dr said on television once, " Don't worry about them as they only last a very short while." So if you tell yourself that as soon as you hit one of those times you will know that it wil go away as quickly as it came. The further away you get from smoking the better it comes, I can promise you that. By the way, I'm sure you're quite right about the manufacturers bringing back packets of 10 cigarettes, just another crafty manoeuvre, the rotten blighters!

Have a lovely weekend everyone, it's a lovely day down here and I hope it is where you are. Keep on praising yourselves for sticking firm to being free from those awful fags, this is the best thing you'll ever do for yourselves so be very very proud however far into your journey you are.

Well, I start over again, still don't know why I smoked last week? Thanks for the support and advice guys, I know it was a blip for me and hopefully will never happen again. Damn u cigarettes. I think it was a 'just one cig' moment.

    Onwards and upwards, Paul.

By crikey, that nasty Nick crept up on me this evening and I'm not over it yet. Having that conversation in my head about going outside for just one smoke, 'nobody would know', imagining myself taking that first drag and how nice it would be, Oh dear!!

Kiwisaver : you'll never know how much that admission helped me! We're away in our caravan and OH is going home on Tuesday for a few days to sort mail and various other business affairs. I thought "Ooh! I'll have a few days to smoke with no one knowing.":eek::eek: How stupid an I be? (Answers on a very small post card, please :(0

It's odd to think that the opinions of people I have never met in RL should matter so much - and I really would feel obliged to confess if I slipped up.

I really would not be here if it wasn't for this thread. :T:T:T

PS : The urge lasted only a few minutes but left me with a vague feeling of loss. The mind is a weird thing.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

Oh Tricia, my heart went to you so much, but what smoking has done to our minds - and the fact that our minds are designed to keep us remembering (!!) makes us very vulnerable for a good while after we stopped. They have to remember never to drop our guard or become complacent in any way because, as in Paul's case, the mind can be triggered by the least little thing. However, we have to remember, as is proved from that from your PS sentence Tricia; whenever we get these thoughts of "ooh I'd love a ciggie" we need to remember straight away that it will only last seconds or at the very most a moment or two and then it goes just as quick as it came and we hardly realise the point at which it did go. We're then back to our normal every day ex-smoking life we're thoughts like that our NOT everyday occurrences!

Please Everyone - always remember that times like this become less and less the further away from smoking you get, I truly promise you that that is the case!

So please carry on the rest of your holiday Tricia and enjoy yourself, but just be aware that one or two of these moments may happen again, but you know how to deal with them and won't let them get to you. Cast your mind onto something else straight away every time, you'll get there! ;)

Hi again Paul, I was absolutely delighted to hear your news and I'm thrilled to bits to know your back in your ex-smoking world!!! :j If you have any moments like that in future please read the advice above and put your mind onto other things pronto! You've done excellently so no regrets about last week just keep looking ahead. :T:T:T

All the very best everyone with a new week ahead if you, another great week of your journey, enjoy the ride to freedom from fags!

Hi guys, I thought I'd pop in here to say hello and offer my support to ongoing quitters and newbies alike. You can all do it, and if you have a blip then you can try again.

Just for those of you who don't know..... I stopped smoking March 20th 2009. I went to an Allen Carr clinic. I had read the book but it didn't work. The clinic did. My father passed away in May of that year and that didn't trigger me to start again either. If you've tried everything else, do google it and give the clinic some thought. Expensive yes, but if it truly doesn't work (you have to go back for 2x shorter sessions after the main 5 hour one if it doesn't work) then you get your money back. If it does, well it's a month or two of ciggy money if you're still on fags not rollies. See, I don't know how it works exactly, if I did I would have figured it out on my own. But it teaches you that everything you ever thought about it is wrong. Like in the above example - it does not help with stress or in times of trouble.

I am now 2 years and 2 months down the line and guess what? I'm also close on 3 stone lighter as well. Your life changes for the better.

And I will never be that 'ex smoker' who patronises others. I have told everyone if I ever do then they are free to slap me.

Good luck everyone, it can be done!

    Hi All,

I'm on my first day, going cold turkey. I was full of resolve when I woke up this morning and have so far remained strong despite the fact that my OH is still smoking and I can see his packet of tobacco from here lol! I had a small wobble half an hour ago but it passed within a few minutes.

I guess I will be popping onto this thread most days now for a bit of support and encouragement. I have read through a lot of posts already and it's a great thread, very supportive to everyone using it.

I have already taken on board one piece of advice gathered from here which was to say to yourself 'I am not smoking today, but I can have one tomorrow if I want'. For me personally, that is a mantra I have been repeating to myself all morning as the thought of never having one again is always what scares me into starting again. So mentally I am hoping that helps me.

Anyway, thanks for listening, and wish me luck :)

Hi Jules and a very warm welcome to the thread...and to the start of a whole new and healthier life! :D As you've been reading the thread I don't think I need put too much else on here, but if you do need a useful post for first timers then flip back over the page to the one to Donald. I won't wish you luck as I believe we can all make that ourselves, but I will send you all the very best wishes possible for this terrific journey. Crack it and you'll be thriilled to bits...as well as hopefully encouraging your DH to at least have a go. I don't mean for yo to nag him - Heaven no, you're a woman and it's not within us! Just keep quiet, as we girls do, and with luck he'll see your determination and simply give it a go. Here's hopng. ;)
