The Giving Up Smoking Thread - Part 3

The method is exercise Sue. :T Being a smoker you always feel a bit of a fraud lighting up after exercise. Then you think how could (as a single gal) I meet someone at the gym being a smoker, when they almost certainly will not? You feel better in yourself after you've stopped smoking and for me certainly it made me want to get fitter too. There was also the raised blood pressure issue which I thought would be resolved by stopping smoking but wasn't.
Incidentally, the Allen Carr rep who ran our clinic said that her weight was an issue when she was a smoker too and that it gradually evened out to a norm after she stopped.
Perhaps we rewarded ourselves with a ciggie after eating something when we wouldn't have eaten that something previously? I think smoking made me lazy as it happens.
I just wanted to tell people about that aspect in that the only reason you will put on weight after you've stopped smoking is if you eat more to compensate for the ciggie being missing in your life. But you are not missing anything, you are gaining freedom!0 -
Evening all
Day 24 and I'm still here and smoke free. I certainly feel as if it's getting easier, but still having ups and downs.
I had got used to having no sense of smell, but it's coming back and I don't like it! I have to deal with people a lot at work and I am very conscious how bad so many of them smell.
And as for smokers, well! Did I used to smell like that? According to Mr P I did, but I can't believe that. Surely not? However, I was out last night with my smoking friends and they all smelt awful.
First trip to the dentist tomorrow since the start of my quit. That could be interesting...

Hi everyone...
I have my appt booked for next week, I am finally going to kick this dirty habit! I do need help though, hence the appt! I want to be a non smoker so bad! I am fed up of smoke related aches and pains. Its not fair on my children that I smoke. I keep thinking if I die early, will they put it down to smoking and wonder why I never stopped so I could be around for longer?:( That thought makes me cry and I am going to hang on to it, despite it being so depressing because my kids are my motivating factor in this.
Are there any tips to get prepared for it? I will be using patches at first. What would you advise someone for those early days? I have been smoking about 20 years:(
Thanks for any help, great thread! I am now going to go read it all to help with the determination!0 -
Wow, I really do recommend quitting, my energy levels are so much higher
I had no idea that smoking was making me feel so tired and flat.
I do have ciggie thoughts but they pass quickly. The first 3 days were the worst so far. I think my 'danger zone' will be believing I am over it and having false confidence as time ticks on.
The improved sense of smell is both a blessing and a curse, cleaning up after the doggies now makes me gag, when smoked I was convinced their diet kept the smells to a minimum :rotfl:0 -
hi everyone
Welcome jules and well done everyone else.
I am still hanging in there. Now have £90 saved as putting away what I would have spent on cigarettes.
Enjoy your weekend everyone.0 -
that's such a fab idea Ixia I really wished I'd done this. As I smoked tobacco & got it duty free I didn't think it was worth the trouble - but I just looked at my quit metre stats & it says I've saved £180 now!DF as at 30/12/16
