Haven't started my stop journey (yet), is it OK if I ask for a bit of advice?

First of all, what a fantastic, supportive and helpful thread this is! I know I'll be visiting often, if not every day.

I'd like to ask a question about the blood sugar level scenario. Would glucose tablets be OK to use in place of juice? I really don't like fruit juice so if glucose tablets are a substitute and keep me from stuffing sweets and other rubbish down me that'd be a real help to me.

I stopped smoking for 31/2 years and put on about 2 stones in weight. I'm already about a stone overweight so want to try and avoid any more weight gain if possible!

    Thanks peeps.

Have you tried a free healthy eating plan like - http://www.sparkpeople.com? It's really straightforward and loads of online support and I lost heaps on that diet the other year...

Yeah I'm back :p...last no smokes attempt ended up such derriere up I'm going e-cig though when I first tried last weekend had such an equipment failure it sort of died before it started....it's a process. Rome wasn't built in a day. Got my new charger today - initially 2 roll ups an hour now 1 roll up an hour. Now I have my charger (needed a new one.....not keen on cheap chinese chargers :p) and carts (mouthpieces - only had about 3 or 4 one of which was dead) I'm all set :)...Yay...watch this space.

Why do I need nicotine? Cos I'm a voice hearer (and I don't meant the radio) and like even a big reduction on rx nrt causes the voices to come back and I'm not good at dealing with them. I also suffer with depression so whilst i hope e-cig is not long term right now it's right on my short term radar. It's an alternative for me and one I need. Smoking stinks and causes no end of probs. If I can find a cheap healthy alternative I'm all for it. If you don't want to try e-cig try snuff (more mess) which is as old as the hills. As my tobacconist says re snuff. 'I've seen many folk die through smoking but ladies live to their 90's and still getting snuff off me'...

So yeah...thanks dundeedoll for your words of wisdom I've just skimmed through. For some reason even on cigs I get the most terrible insatiable nicotine craving mid afternoon. Nothing pacifies it...any ideas why? Just curious

    hi all

A newbe here, this is my second go at giving up last time i gave up for 18 months.

So last cig was 4pm on sunday and i am using champix, my husband is also doing it and using nrt inhaler thing

so far we havent killed each other but are eating eaing eating so i have been to the libary today to get some low fat cook books as i really dont wont to put on weight as i have spent years deiting getting into a size 12, i have also brought zumba for the wii (with the money saved) and have a puzzel to do and have a list of odd jobs for dh to work his way through.

What hobbies interests have other people taken up to keep them busy

Well it's now 6 hours and fully e-cig...Obviously for me the next few days/week are crucial and I don't want to tell the planet till I'm over the first week. Can't sleep. Think it's lack of nicotine. Bring on the clearomisers (clear mouthpieces) when I get round to getting some :). Added a new cart (mouthpiece with nicotine in. Also known as carts/cartridges and attys - atomisers.....or just carts as in cartomisers - all in one atomisers and cartridges)... at 12 and took some prn (as required) and managed to get a couple of hours sleep. Now semi awake and just put another cart on (fully full and leaking though smaller than previous. Know this current one is a 501. Think I had 801's or something on before) and seem positive.

If you don't think your tastebuds won't change quickly from being a smoker to being a non smoker rest assured they will. At 8pm semi alcoholic taste vaping (puffing on e-cig. Loads of different flavours. Currently have vanilla :j). By 2am nothing could have been sweeter. In fact it was almost like ice cream :A. Now that's in 6 hours guys!!!

Also cold turkeyers.....you may find you need the mini mints in tins. Hands wise, it's knitting or crochet. Check out australia crochet for decent line drawings of instructions. Make your fortune on folksy and quit the cigs at the same time ;)...I'm knitting a tank top right now cos it keeps me sane...

So yeah...I know the e-cig isn't for everyone but folk know my reasons. I don't see it as permanent, but more long term than NHS NRT..

Well done you - go to bed if you feel bad. I used to do that at first when I stopped over a year ago - lay down & the cravings wern't so bad. The headache is probably a withdrawal thing.

    All the very best.

Hi springtime - well done for your 1st day, hope you made it ok!choille is right, I definately had a lot of early nights those first couple of weeks! Also read through this & the previous threads just to keep occupied & also bolster my resolve.

Keep going though you do get there. I used to say to myself each day "I won't smoke today, tomorrow I can if I want but not today" I found it really helpful. The thought of smoking only rarely crosses my mind now.

    Good luck x

Lack of sleep really affects my mind in a bad way so I smoked yesterday but was really chuffed to go 12 hours (and that not sleeping on e-cig)....So yeah....tried turnigy accucel charger for first time properly yesterday and IT DIDN'T EXPLODE :j....

Right now the only equipment failures I have are ones of parts for battery packs (I use 14500 batteries and for the turnigy they need battery boxes and wires cos the turnigy only has croc clips for connectors) and some more battery boxes. they really aren't expensive and maplin has free postage this weekend :D....

I have been down to one cig an hour (in reality about 2/3 of a cig cos I smoke rollies) since about 7 or 8 am and the last one I had at 11am made me feel really sick so am going to try going off them..

Also good news...refund are a happening :D...so chuffed. The guy who I got the trustfire (trust fire/ultra fire chargers are cheap and nasty so not worth buying. Extremely liable to over charge and explode  The turnigy is only a little more expensive than the ultra fire and well worth it. Plus it does not just li-on but Ni-CD etc batteries so you can use it as a general household charger :)) off said he didn't get my emails so like I've sent his charger back this am :) and Hobby King finally got around to refunding this am :)..

    Yay......

  • yay springtime! Good for you. As kiwi saves the grass deserved it, its related to tobacco right????

kiwi that's fantastic. Hope you're feeling much more healthy now? I've been really attacking the exercise these last 2 weeks - determined to burn off the extra cals I've consumed this year - and I feel so healthy now its fabulous, really enjoying it.

Kiwi so impressive your cost of living challenge - has it been hard & are you glad you've done it? If you get to the end of the year with $5k left will you have a blow out? I see you've also done more than half of your olympic challenge, will you be debt free then? x

Still cutting down as I gradually transition onto e-cig. It's going okay. On Saturday I managed (near enough) one small (matchstick sized) rollie every hour...now just starting every 75-90 mins as I gradually move to e-cig. Of course for me e-cig is not a permanent solution. At some point I want to move onto the inhalator but not just yet.

So yeah....if you think you can't quit. Don't despair. There is e-cig. If I can do it by gradually transitioning anyone can. I have the worst nicotine addiction known to woman...

Also following my huge blow out on e-cig stuff (and practically no monies for food as a result) last week I'm ready to go back on the frugal living challenge. My initial aim this year was to be debt free by August but obviously my illness has gotten in the way :(.... So here's to get back up from off the floor and try again....

If I smoke 3oz of tobacco (won't come wednesday but that's another story LOL) then that's no more than £20 a week including papers (I roll them so thin I can get at least 60 out of 1oz. Hence I get through a lot of papers. praise God for Mr. A cos last week I noticed most of the decent brands of tobacco were well over £6 an oz )....on tobacco and like £20 is all I need for food (comfortably. Any less and I have whoopsie spends )....so yeah.....near enough all food and tobacco this week (maybe even less) on just over what I used to spend on tobacco alone :) (£35 a week. I was a heavy smoker)

So yeah so optimistic. I don't have e-cig for every SINGLE craving. I often have my wee mints from Markies. I just have e-cig to take the edge off the craving. that's it....

Anyhow tis all my news. Praying types of folk please pray about my sleep pattern cos like it's really screwing up things - so tired again this am (only 6 hours sleep and for me that is notenough...)
