  • Evening all just needed to share the madness of a smoker, I was standing in the supermarket this evening looking at the array of quit aids available, my first thought was "THEY ARE SO BL**DY EXPENSIVE" and I walked away. I then began to think of all the money I have spent over the last 18 years smoking (Thanks Rachel T and Good Luck :D) but yet was still thinking that £11 for some gum was too much.......madness!!!!!

On a positive note DNms I have followed your advice and only smoked 12 of the normal 20 I smoke :D and I am very very excited for the quit day

Hope you are all having a lovely smoke free day

:j:j Hi, everybody and welcome to lots of new people. It sounds as if the word is being passed around the whole MSE community. :T:T:T

DundeeDoll : I really relate to that random 'Oooh, I want a smoke.' In my case it is still when I do something or go somewhere where I would have smoked - or would have been doing it as an excuse to smoke! I suppose that is going to take a year to go through all the anniversaries and happenings.

I didn't really plan to stop on 19th December :rotfl: I'd been dithering since early October, reading the past threads on here, whyquit.com and other sites and fora. I started by noting down when I smoked and that led to a spreadsheet (OK, I'm a geek ) and just recording them was making me think twice about lighting up. I guess you could say that I tricked myself into cutting down. Anyway at 8.30 in the morning on 19th December, I lit up, took one puff, looked at the filthy thing in my hand and said Ewwh! I stubbed it out and it sat on the ashtray with a half empty pack of cigs and a lighter for nearly a week before I threw everything out.:eek:

Several people have commented that they don't want to smell of stale smoke anymore. Good for you. I SAID that - but I didn't believe I did smell. I was behind someone in a supermarket queue the other day and she smelt so bad that I didn't unload my trolley onto the belt. I went to another till  I thought most people didn't realise I smoked.
    I guess they did!

Sue : Poor you! That sounds very nasty :( and I'd send you one of the famous dodgy hugs but they seem to have disappeared. Get well soon.

We miss you but we will keep the faith till you come back.

Anyone who is lurking out there, just keep reading, keep thinking, go to the first post on this thread and get lots of info. You will have your LBM and join us. You can rant, rave, whinge, shout - whatever you need. We've all been where you are. We do understand. It's worth it - trust me, I'm an ex-smoker. :j:j
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

I gave up smoking in January, after 20 years of solidly smoking about 20 a day. I used a few different techniques but ended on the electronic cigarette and a patch for when I was at work.

With the money I have saved in the last three months I have put down a deposit on replacing the windows in my home!!

I am using the money I am saving on an ongoing monthly basis to buy my new sofa and lease a new car.

    Who knew!! LOL

Have you tried Home Bargains, they have the 2 and 4mg gum for about £1.50 per pack of 12! Instead of popping to the shops for 20 cigs i am driving to Home bargains for 3 packs of gum which last me about 5 days and costs less than 1 pack of cigs! :)
