Hi Sidneysmum - yes they have jars suitable for jam. The smallest size is very handy.

  • rubytuesday - Thanks for that. I must get my finger out and make a trip to Ikea. I did tons of blackberry picking last year and just froze the fruit. This year I hope to make some jam. Yum Yum.:)

Today has been a lot better. I have been far more productive. No work today so Sidney and I went on a long run. Afterwards I did my weekly food shop. I went to Netto and spent £5.19 and then to Morrisons and spent £25.05. Felt I had done really well. Got a few good offers. Utterley Butterly was half price so I bought 4 tubs. Also Morrisons luxury ice cream was half price so I bought 3 tubs. These are all things that I regularly buy. I also bought a cheap white loaf of bread and made it all into breadcrumbs. I had used the last of my breadcrumbs out of the freezer last weekend so thought I`d better make some more.
Everything I bought was a need not a want, so I felt as though I had done really well with my money!
For breakfast I had porridge. I am still using up a huge bag that I bought about June last year. It just lasts for ever!! Lunch was a stuffing sandwich (my favourite). Tea was a homemade fish curry which was lush. The fish was from the freezer and needed using up.

Managed to get a few extra jobs done today - Washed and ironed one set of bedding from one of the spare bedrooms. Also I cleaned out my wash house which was rather dirty. As it is outside and not really part of the house, I tend to ignore it, but it really needed a good clean. It is all organised now - I keep loads of baskets in there with all my veg as well as my washer, dryer and freezer. Its quite respectable now. :T

Not much more to report today. Hope you are all well.

You've done well today. I went to a dance class this morning and have tackled a huge pile of washing up but was planning on a huge tidy. Chaos is reigning here at the moment I'm afraid but I didn't get round to it. May do a bit now -also need to make a shepherds pie with some leftovers better get on if I don't want to be eating at midnight!:rotfl:

  • rubytuesday - Well done on keeping busy. Its great to get lots done.:)

Today I have actually managed to keep busy again instead of lounging about. TooK Sidney for her usual run this morning even though it was tipping it down outside. Did loads of little jobs afterwards - brushed the garage out, new bedding on beds, cleaned spare room, planted Kale seeds, 2 loads of washing. Also did quite a bit of cleaning and emptied my 2 vacs. Having a well deserved sit down now with a glass of wine, ready for a hectic day tomorrow.
Manage another £2 payment today. I actually have quite a bit of cash at home and have decided that on Monday morning I am going to pay it off the mortgage. I am really hoping that I can pay it all off by the end of May. Its a big hope!!

Anyway I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.
    Keep in touch folks

  • Been very hectic over the last few days, so haven't had a chance to pop on for a catch up.

Have been very good money wise, several NSD this week despite my son being on half term holidays. :j

Have been listing loads on ebay over the last few days, have also been given some car manuals to list from my father in law who has said we can keep half if they sell, so fingers crossed we get a good amount!!

We are still working our way through the mountain of food in the cupboards and freezer but did buy a large chicken today at MrT which I plan to make at least 4 meals from.

Off to the cinema tomorrow but will only have to pay for my son as OH and I have tickets that we got through our tesco's clubcard, so hopefully a cheapish day out.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend

  • welshmummy - Well done on soo many fronts - NSD`s, ebay, emptying the freezer. Mr t`s chicken. You are doing brilliantly.:j

Today has been a good day. Went on my usual run with Sidney. I actually got my finger out later and did about an hours worth of deadheading in the garden. I think I need to do the odd half an hour here and there in the garden and it will look fabulous. Also made my £2 mortgge payment.:D

Later today the family arrived and we had a pork roast dinner plus home made cakes and jelly and ice cream for afters. We have some veg left over from the dinner so guess what? Its roast dinner pie again tomorrow.:rotfl:

Hope you have all had a great day.

  • Hello All.

Had a great money saving day today. I actually managed to make a £600 payment off my mortgage :jso I didnt bother with my daily £2. I am really on track to paying it off by hopefully June!!!
I have managed to keep myself busy with a spot of visiting this afternoon.

Foodwise I made the usual roast dinner pie from leftovers yesterday and had some for tea which was wonderful. I also put some pork rind in the oven to make crackling for sidneysdad. Also baked some potatoes for tomorrow. My menu for the next few days is- Christmas leftovers (mini onion tartlets) with baked pots, roast dinner pie, leftover tuna and pasta, leftover chicken and fish curry. I am hoping to empty a few leftover boxes from the freezer by doing this.:)

On the toiletries front I have managed to empty a few products recently - nail polish, facial wipes, body lotion, shower gel. It felt great not to feel pressured to buy any more. To replace the facial wipes I have opened an Olay boxed set of cleanser and toner so I`ll give it a try. I am determined not to waste anything and certainly not buy anything until I need it.

I think both myself and sidneysdad have felt a bit better off recently due to the economys we have made. I have decided to keep the heating off in the bedroom for the time being and to use the electric blanket at bedtime. It seems such a waste to heat a bedroom which we only use to go to sleep in. Anyway so far, so good.:)

I have decided to keep my eyes open for a hostess trolley and am currently watching a couple on ebay. I actually have a table top hostess gadget which has 4 heated glass dishes. I use it every weekend without fail but I need something bigger now the family is getting bigger. Watch this space.

Anyway no more news for now.
Hope you are all doing well.

  • Hello all
Have had a great money saving day today. Unfortunately it has been a work day but I still managed to make my cheeky £2 payment. I also received an award at work (roll eyes) and received £150`s worth of vouchers. I have chosen £90 of M&S and £60 of B&Q. Hopefully I will receive them this week in the post. The plan is to use the B&Q voucher for bits for my garden - gravel, rose bush, paint etc. The M&S will definately come in handy in the spring as I plan on getting a couple of new outfits. ;)

On my way home from work I went and got the latest Slimming World magazine. I didnt use hard cash to buy it as I have an old WH Smith voucher I am trying to use up. Anyway the assistant gave me a free newspaper and also some vouchers for 15% off at B&Q. These will come in handy when I buy the gravel etc.:)

Things are looking way better on the toiletries front. I feel as though I have got some kind of order to things now. All the half empty bottles have been used up and I can see that most things will be used up by the end of the year - except nail polish of which I have loads of unopened NO7 bottles. Hopefully I will be just coming to end of everything at about Christmas. :rotfl:

With regard to cleaning stuff, I have done well with that also. All the half empty bottles have been used up. Sidneysday came home with 2 full bottles of cleaning stuff which had come his way. So a saving there for me. Also he was given 2 full tins of Quality Street which were unopened and left over from Christmas. I suppose its a bit pointless me getting the Slimming World magazine :rotfl:

Foodwise I have had stuffing sandwich for breakfast, tuna and mayo baked potato for lunch and the last of the Christmas canapes for tea. Apart from a turkey leg in the freezer, we have used up all our surplus Christmas food. Thank God for that.

I have been having a bit of a think about doing a bit of planting in my garden this spring. I am going to ask my Dad for a cutting from his rhubarb plant and I am planning on buying and planting an apple tree. Hopefully in a couple of years time I will have some fruit right at the back door.

Anyway enough of my rambling for today.
    Hope you are all well.

  • Hello All,

Not much to report today as it has been a very quiet working day. Paid my usual £2 off the mortgage. Still got a good way to go yet.
We are still eating loads of "old food" from the freezer. Homemade stuffing sandwiches for lunch and leftover roast dinner pie tonight. I think I still have about 3 weeks worth of old stock to eat up.

I have been giving a bit of thought to starting to get out a bit more at weekends and have decided to start to join in with some of the local countyside walks which are organised locally with park rangers.
Not sure if it is really my cup of tea but I`m going to give it a go!

    Hope you are all OK

  • Hello!!

Been busy  No more OP's to report, getting a bit brassic at the mo waiting for things to settle down. Still under my grocery spend target for the month and made the OP target of £250. Been out today and got my bike filthy which DansDad isnt happy about (its his job to clean it after all :D)

Dan still has an open bit on his leg, and I reckon I'm looking at another 2-3 weeks before he's rideable again... BUT the best news for me is that the weather is finally condusive to hosses being out tonight which means another hour in bed for me tomorrow :p In fact The One Who Has Needles has just chastised me roundly for, in her words, mollycoddling my boys! I did say that I dont like the old boy out in the rain, but she said you rug him? And although she's only 4ft nothing I'm not arguing with her... SO out they are tonight but they may be in tomorrow as I refuse to have them in freezing nights.... Shhh just dont tell the One Who Has Needles...;)

Managed another NSD yesterday and sort of one today as the painkillers I've bought for the old boy isnt my money so I think I'll claim today too....

    Hope you're all well x
