  • TBH I simply don't like cinemas.

I used to enjoy Saturday nights at my local fleapit. But, like everywhere else, they've become so much less welcoming to me with the advent of politically correct laws and practices.

I can sit at home with my excellent quality new release (albeit illegal) dvd with a smoke and a drop of the hard stuff without any fear of interruption for literally a fraction of what a cinema (or even a legit dvd) would cost me - FTW :)

But you're missing the 'cinema experience'; the noisy sweet bags rustling, the mobile phone screens lighting up beside you, the whispering, the discomfort of cramped seating.

You don't know what you're missing.

I liken it to football matches.

If you like to see what is going on, when you want, rewind if you miss a crucial tackle, with on-demand beer and comfy seating: Sky Sports.

If you like the cheer of the crowd, the banter with the opposition, the raw energy and a lukewarm pie: to go the match.

They both have their pros and cons. But piracy is never acceptable - don't pay for it, don't see it. No one ever died because they couldn't watch the latest Nicolas Cage film, or Pixar creation.

And Hollywood won't starve because I haven't paid inflated prices :D

Our local Odeon never shows the films we want to see. I called to complain when they weren't showing Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll and was told they were classified as a "family cinema" so films like that would never be shown. It's a 30 minute drive to our next nearest cinema but that wasn't showing it either (ironic as it was only a couple of miles from Billericay), so we had to drive 20 miles to Thurrock.

Same when Mr. Nice came out. We drove all the way to Bas Vegas (Basildon) to find they had put Mr. Nice on at their smallest auditorium and it was full and there was a group of disappointed customers who didn't want to see the latest U release instead.

We don't all have children you know.

I can get them, 6 for £10 and you can swap them if they are really bad quality, thats if you can remember who you bought them off because they all look the same after 10 pints

the easiest way to not miss a film is to plan to turn up an hour or more before to get the tickets, then you can !!!!!! off again until it's time for the film.

I think the price of cinema is getting a bit high, but if you don't fall for the overpriced food/drink and see plenty of films it isn't too bad. We see maybe 6-8 films a month which works out at £1.69 - £2.25 each
