Cinemas: No wonder we're all pirates!

I wouldn't usually agree with pirating, but my boyfriend's grandad just gave me a pirate copy of Little Fockers this evening!
He has several bookcases filled with films that he's downloaded and burnt to dvds. I didn't turn it down when he gave it to me as it is exciting to be able to see a brand new film for free/cheaper, but I like sitting in the cinema without many distractions and watching it on the big screen. Plus, if we don't pay for the films they won't be able to make them.... :A0 -

Happened to the hubby and I, Vue advertised a showing at 7.30pm online of a film. When we got there turned out the times were shown in error and there wasn't one till 9pm, it wasn't a big deal as we weren't in a rush and it's a 40 mile trip to the cinema anyway. The manager took our name and address which I thought was strange but he said it was so he could log it as a complaint with Head Office.
A couple of weeks later we got a gift card and a letter of apology saying the previous weeks times had been displayed by mistake. So excellent service in my opinion
The only thing that annoys me is the online booking fee for Vue, as you pick the tickets up in the cinema so why you have to pay nearly an extra £5 for two tickets!"Organic!! I grew up on Angel Delight..." - Dylan Moran0 -
Whilst not trying to condone it, this little image is pretty accurate0

If it's a "big" film, the DVD is normally under £10 on week of release. That £10 buys you a disc which you can use time and time again, lend out to friends & family. The downsize is that you normally have to wait a few months to buy it.
Whereas with the cinema, your lucky that £10 will get you and a mate in to a see the film, with the annoyance of people eating popcorn & talking "'cos this scene is boring init".
I know which one I will pick.0 -

Its all down to personal choice, you could say the same about going to a gig, why pay £50+ a ticket? When for less than a tenner you can buy the cd and listen at home, or why pay to see a comedian when their tour always comes out on DVD afterwards. You don't pay just to watch the film, you pay for the atmosphere, the big screen, the surround sound. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. We're fed up of the way Tesco does things, too. There are all these check-outs but are they fully staffed? Never. You have to queue and queue and then when you've done all that queuing the stupid woman says she's going off duty and some stupid bloke takes her place and messes around for ages faffing about with a till roll.
Well sod that is what we say, and so we nick all the stuff we would've bought if only Tesco had been better organised.
These supermarkets ought to get their act together and stop inconveniencing shoppers. I don't approve of shop-lifting but really, you can understand why it happens.
Anyway. Must go. Friend of a friend is delivering a new telly for the kids' bedroom, fell off a lorry complete with Play Station 3. The kids will love it.0 -

Ok, I've got to ask, who on earth would be stupid enough to BUY a pirated DVD?
All you're doing is paying someone for going to a torrent site and downloading something they were probably going to download anyway? If you're gonna be illegal, you might as well do it properly.
The only film I've downloaded in a good few years is Scott Pilgrim. I saw it in the cinema, loved it. I eagerly awaited the blu ray release, then saw America were getting it months before here, so thought, "cheek of it!" and obtained a blu ray rip.
I showed it to my friends, then bought the blu ray this week (not to mention those wonderful comics).0 -
