I can't remember the last film I saw at my local cinema (by local - its at least an hour commute each way . Last time I considered booking something - the prices of the tickets were £7 odd so times that by 2 and its almost the price of the dvd which ok you have to wait and the experience isn't the same but at least you can watch it over n over again and pause it mid film to nip to the loo. :rotfl:
I don't do orange wednesdays. I'm not an orange customer and I know it gets stupidly busy so reluctantly, I would rather pay full price and go when its quieter.
I'm always shocked how much the cinema charges for the extras, popcorn etc.....
eta - I have just been to see what the current price is and its £8.15 for a standard seat and £9.85 for a premium VIP seat

Just watched Avatar in HD with 40” screen and 5.1 home cinema.
Had also seen it at cinema.
They are utterly incomparable experiences.0 -
I have to say I probably only go to the cinema once or twice a year if it's something I really want to see and it makes it worthwhile for special effects/3D etc, the last film I went to see was Avatar. I don't tend to enjoy the experience of the cinema probably because I get irritated easily lol, always seems to get the person next to me who makes noises when they're eating as if they're slopping food from a trough, hate that. Also I'm more comfy at home curling up with OH on the sofa in my pyjamas so we have lovefilm instead. Don't mind the monthly fee as it's still cheaper than renting or buying a film a week. I take the point about comparing the cost of going to see a film against a gig or show, I'll happily pay the ticket prices which are higher than the cinema to go and see a comedian I like, I guess it feels expensive when I think about how I used to go into town with my friend 12 or 13 years ago and we'd take a fiver each which would cover bus fare, cinema and a mcdonalds! I sound like my mum talking about the good old days now!0

I went to see Inception at the printworks with a friend, for the first ten minutes the film was completely silent. My mate turns to me and goes "this is very brave film making" Then a guy from the odeon comes in and tells us that the sounds broke! Great movie though
Exactly! Such a quaint way to view a film - sitting in a big dark room with a load of idiots.
Very 1920s. We've moved on - I wish the studios would too.
Just download it and watch it in the comfort of your own home on your big telly. That's what I (and most of my friends) do. The distributors/studios just need to monetise it, and quick. Napster missed out, iTunes didn't.....0 -
I watch a film at least once a week and save myself £17.70 as i have a cineworld card which costs £13.50 a month, glad i have it as its getting expensive to go the odd time, i begrudge having to watch 3d films as the 2d version isnt on and have to pay extra for it0

Its very judgemental to say that everyone else in the cinema is a "load of idiots". Every now and again you get one or two muppets but the majority of people are just there to watch a movie. I watch alot of movies at home but no matter how big your TV is its never as good as the cinema (well unless your TV is the size of a cinema screen!)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I don't like the 3D films. It was a novelty to start off with but I hate having to wear the glasses. I went to see Tron last week and it was only available in the 3D. Gives me a bit of a headache.
I love going to the cinema - but it has to be a cinema I know, and the seats that I pick. I've been on holiday and went and didn't enjoy it at all. I've very rarely been bothered by other people when watching a film. The last time was Small Soldiers so that's quite a while ago lol0 -

When we got there, the only showings were at 4pm and 8.30pm. Luckily, we were early, so we got in the long queue, to see the 4pm show. Got to the end of the queue at 4.10pm, to be told that it had sold out. My DH had a bit of a moan along the lines of "well, why are you showing it on only one screen and yet you have 4 screens showing "Gullivers Travels", which no-one wants to see?" When the girl at the till shouted out that HP had sold out, half of the queue walked out!
After a frantic call to my sister to find out the times at the local Cineworld, we dashed there to catch the 5pm showing. Again, it was only being shown on one screen, again it was sold out and again "Gullivers Travels" was being shown on 4 screens. We tried to book tickets for the 8.30 showing which was also sold out. We gave up and went home and ended up watching a pirated copy last night with a cup of tea and the rest of the left-over Christmas chocs.
I can't believe that a cinema with 10 screens can sell out every seat for a film that has been out for almost 6 weeks! There was clearly still a big demand to see the film, why were there only 2 showings each day on just one screen? It's like they don't want our money. (Which is hard to believe, looking at the price of their horrid food!) No wonder illegal downloading is so popular!
You can't see the (very popular) film you want to see because it's sold out so you break the law. Nice."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Yeah i've gone off 3D films, I think what annoys me is when they charge you an extra £1.50 for the film and then say "Do you need 3D glasses?" And thats another £1.50! I know I should keep them but I always forget. Avatar was very good in 3D(the effects not the film) but Tron was a bit disappointing. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To start off I work for a cinema. One of the things I hate the most is customers who believe it is the cinemas fault when a film shows out - 300 odd other people had the common sense to pre-book for a peak time/ high release film, it isn't our fault that you did not. I do not think you should get compensation for failing to plan ahead. Nor do I believe that this is grounds to commit piracy. As to not having enough showings per day, we have a limited number of screens, and contracts with film companies stating how often we show them.
Also, we get many customers complaining that the times online are different to the times we have to show- it always turns out that people who believe we "must have changed the times around", have merely misread the website when we pull it up for them.
Yes, its a pain when your plans don't go as you wish, I understand this, but it isn't going to be the fault of the cashier, so don't take it out on them.2011 Wins : Models own makeup product, Photoplusx4 software:j Mens hair dye :rotfl:0
