Its all down to personal choice, you could say the same about going to a gig, why pay £50+ a ticket? When for less than a tenner you can buy the cd and listen at home, or why pay to see a comedian when their tour always comes out on DVD afterwards. You don't pay just to watch the film, you pay for the atmosphere, the big screen, the surround sound.
You mean charge yourself ridiculous prices in your kitchen for a bag of minstrels and some chemical-packed nachos and "cheese"; then move to your lounge where you have invited some chavs in to talk loudly and keep walking about at regular intervals. Don't forget to have set your phone to go off every 10 minutes too.0 -

I download the odd film. If it is any good Ill buy the DVD.
If it is exceptional I'll watch it at the cinema to get the maximum effect.
The last two films I downloaded were The A Team and The Expendibles both of which I have since recommended to probably hundreds of people and watched at the cinema myself.
I agree with the earlier poster who said about the company that streams new releases 1st will pretty much wipe the floor with all the other companies.
Could easily be done with existing software on PS3 and Xbox for a start! Both of which have HMDI connections.
Would mainly appeal to people with a good home cinema set up but none the less there are alot around now.
Cheers
GOne day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T
Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged.
Or maybe not:mad:0 -

You must live in a bad area as the cinema's I go to never have these problems of people talking loudly or phones going off.
Obviously cinema food is overpriced but I don't go to the cinema to purchase from their selection of snacks and beverages I go to the cinema to watch a film on the big screen with decent sound. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. You've obviously never been to the Picturehouse in Brixton then? They should just dress their staff in stripy tops and masks and stop the pretence.
You've only taken part of my quote, therefore the whole thing is out of context. Cinemas are not over expensive if you compare them to similar entertainment options of similar duration e.g. gigs, football matches, the theatre. Obviously I would like them to be cheaper however the two cinemas I go to regularly are the AMC manchester where tickets are £4.25 with a spingfields yellow card (that is free on their website) and the odeon in the Printworks which is only £5 with a printwork loyalty card (also free). I do not regard either of those prices as overly expensive. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Yeah good surround sound does make a massive difference at home. The thing is I just like the whole cinema experience, going out watching a movie, then going for food or beers afterwards. I like the craic. Plus if its a really good movie, unless you are prepared to get a pirate copy you have to wait months to get it.
I went to a cinema in America, now that was an experience, the screen, seats and sound were far superior to the UK, however there was clapping, cheering etc. from the audience whenever something happened. I've never known the like! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
To be honest, we rarely watch illegal downloads. We only have a basic telly and I hate not being able to hear the dialogue or see the picture properly. We rent a lot of stuff from Blockbuster and my colleague has a Lovefilm subscription so she will often lend me films after she has watched them. We're not that bothered about seeing films the moment that they're released but we have seen all of the HP films at the cinema, it's just become a bit of a tradition.
The last time that I prebooked tickets, the machine that prints them out went on the blink and after 15 minutes or so of watching the clueless staff faff about pressing buttons and telling me that "it's not working" I ended up missing the first 10 minutes of the movie whilst waiting for the "supervisor" to check on the computer that I had booked and paid for the bloody things. Adding on a booking fee just adds insult to injury so I will not use that service again. To see a film several weeks after it had been released, I didn't think that I would need to book anyway, I was just surprised that the cinema underestimated the demand for the film.
Going to the cinema in the UK is a soul-destroying experience in my opinion, especially to those of us who can remember the old cinemas with the circle seats, the huge screens and the audience participation. I can remember seeing a James Bond movie with my parents, and at the moment where he ski-jumped over the cliff and his Union Jack parachute opened, the whole audience clapped and cheered, it was like being at a football match! Now, you have to contend with a popcorn strewn floor, a tiny viewing room (hardly a "cinema") over-priced, rubbish food and a load of ignorant, noisy kids who would have been "ejected by the management" just a few years ago. (Like I was when I was caught dancing on the chairs during the film "Can't stop the music"!)
I can't pretend to feel too bad at watching HP on a pirate disc, having already seen all of the previous movies at the cinema, bought the videos/dvd's and books, not to mention the toys, lunchboxes, games etc etc, I don't think Ms Rowling will be losing sleep over my thirty quid lost at the box office. And the only way that things will change in the big cinema chains is if the paying punters vote with their feet. It's not the first time we have been disappointed at the cinema, I've been several times recently and the 3D had "broken down", I've also seen films with poor sound or picture quality. It's all very well getting a voucher/refund but when you've planned a night out, got a babysitter, etc etc, it's just a big inconvenience. I'd rather spend the time and the money on almost anything else, at least at home I can get a decent cup of tea!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
