Rarely go to the cinema but if I do, always book online, choice of seat, turn up, get tickets from machine job done.
I don't think it is expensive unless you decide to pig out on their expensive snacks.
As for home movies, well I watch them all on my computer via my 37" TV and use a program (several available), which allows you to skip all the intros etc and get straight to the film.0 -

Nowadays you dont have to, why waste time downloading, converting, ripping and burning onto a disk, when you can watch it on stream sites as many times as you want. Usually once is too much.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I have a Cineworld Unlimited ( http://www.cineworld.co.uk/unlimited ) ticket - I pay £13.50 and I can go to the cinema as many times as I want per month, though I do have to pay £1.50 for 3D films, this isn't too bad as buying a 3D TV would cost much, much more currently. Before I paid for this, I did not buy pirate DVDs or watch downloaded films (unless I paid for them through I Tunes, etc.) as with pirate versions you lose out on quality and extras and for another very simple reason - it would be theft and wrong. So in summary, OP are you honestly admitting to being a thief?Cheltenham Dude

No mate - a decent pirate copy is just as good as the original (without all the carp that comes with it).
Buying a pirate isn't tecnically theft - might be handling stolen goods though I guess.
If the legit copies were a couple of quid, I'd buy them. But they prefer to make more profit so there we go0 -
It depends, I would still consider it theft personally, though I suppose legally, it would counted as handling stolen goods or possession of counterfeit goods (downloading it illegally is probably still counted as theft) - there is one advantage of genuine dvds I can think (it is a long term one though), if you get tired of a genuine dvd after watching it (or watching many times over the years as the case may be), you can usually trade it in or sell it to shops, such as CEX - not sure how easy it would be to sell on pirate dvds if you get bored of them.Cheltenham Dude

But for a quid or two - does selling it on matter? I usually give 'em away if I'm not gonna watch 'em again0

Arrrrrrrrr.
I was hoping this was about real pirates.
That will be all.0 -
That would depend on whether you find selling or trading in handy, the last time I traded loads of DVDs (usually ones I got for £2 - £4 over the years) to CEX I got a £75 voucher in exchange - I actually found that quite useful (got a decent flat screen TV out of it).Cheltenham Dude

In response to the OP: the reason there was only 2 showings of Harry Potter and 4 of Gulliver's Travels? The studio paid for 4 screens (and probably the larger screens too), this is to maximise their revenue. Harry Potter, whilst popular has been out for 6 weeks. The first 4 weeks would have overtaken the cinemas.
I really don't like people who pirate, especially when they buy them. I believe you should pay for things you want, I know this is MSE and we're all about saving money, but do it legally. Film rentals, wait a few months for the DVDs to be cheap, use vouchers, nectar points, clubcard points.etc for cinema tickets or using vouchers earned from survey sites.etc to buy DVDs.
Bought pirated DVDs can fund criminal gangs, and downloading things for free hurts the film industry, as people then don't bother buying/renting DVDs and the film industry gets less money, which means less budget or less films being made.
Cinemas can be good if you go at the right time, been to a few screenings where I've had 2 or 3 other people in the screen as well as me.
Also if you do hate a film and come out within half hour or so you can usually get your ticket refunded/swapped. I worked at Vue and could do this, some people didn't like the violence in a certain film so got a refund.0
