Hey Laura, we have LO sleeping in vest, sleepsuit and swaddled in a blanket with another on top. She seems happy in this. No hat though as if baby gets too hot they will cool down through their heads, and wearing a hat would prevent this.

I'm after a bit of advice myself. My LO is 5 days old and suffering terribly with wind. She is fine during the day atm as we have a lot of visitors who are nursing her and automatically winding her. However we are having problems on an evening and through the night. We are winding her mid feed and after feed. Then once she is settled we put her in the crib or moses basket depending on which room we are in. After about 30 mins she wakes really distressed and squealing like a piglet. I get her up to wind her again. I am giving her Infacol before each feed. We have elevated the top end of the crib and basket to help with the wind. She is bottle fed but trying to encourage my milk to come in so I'm putting her on the breast for 10 mins before each feed as recommended by MW, and have started to get some milk from one breast. I just don't know what else I can be doing to get rid of the wind. Any ideas or suggestions welcome :o

Well done on trying to breastfeed! It can't be easy starting late. I'm sure you already know but try to get lots of skin to skin and feeding during the night is most beneficial for increasing supply. You can also try expressing. Here is a good website with more information: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/relactation.html. Good luck!

With wind, as clairloo said it could just be a matter of time until your LO is mature enough to pass wind. Have you tried different winding positions? Across the knees worked well for us and Keeping LO upright for as long as possible after a feed can help. We had a sling which was great or this.

  • Thanks GG, but I don't think you can use gripe water in the first month?

It seems bizarre to me but LO is fine during the day and will manage without any wind pains and can quite happily snooze away, but as soon as we head up to bed it starts :(

    Have you tried tummy massage?

If you press on their tummy fairly firm you can sometimes feel the little bubbles of wind. If you sort of keep walking your fingers you can feel the bubbles popping and joining together into bigger bubbles. They can't pass the tiny bubbles, but once they get a big enough bubble they can usually burp or pump!
Here I go again on my own....

Hiya WW. Congratulations on Katie:j Finally logged on to the pregnancy thread to see how you got on. Hope you are starting to feel better after your surgeries and carpy hospital experience.
My Daniel (12 weeks now) was constantly windy. Usually passed it but sometimes it was sore for him, often at night. I reckoned this was because he was suckling on me all evening and getting air in somehow. My milk supply was low so the wee man was hungry. I couldn't express much but what I did express I fed him in the evenings. Getting a big feed in the evening rather than 4 hours of little and often seemed to help a lot. The spice 'fenugreek' really helped boost my milk supply.

Congrats to all the other ladies from the pregnancy forum. I've not been on much - my wee man has been keeping me busy.
And hello to the other mums. Hope it's OK if I join you here. I've been reading some posts and picking up some really useful tips :D

When Joe was tiny, I found that if I supported him sitting up him on my lap and tipped him forwards and backwards (gently!), this also helped him to get his wind up.

For sleeping in, this time last year he'd be in a vest and sleepsuit, wrapped in a swaddle sheet (made out of muslin material) with a folded cellular blanket on top.

He had his MMR and booster jabs yesterday. He wasn't very happy about that :( But it was all forgotten about within a few minutes. I just hope he doesn't develop any side effects from the MMR as they usually appear in 1-2 weeks, which takes us up to Christmas.

He threw up this morning, but I think that was just a case that he coughed just as he finished his bottle, gagged a bit and, with a stomach full of milk, it brought it all up. He was trotting around, laughing and smiling 5 minutes later so he definitely didn't seem ill. Thank God for tumble dryers though, as his sleeping bag and my dressing gown were covered in milky sick, they take ages to dry indoors and it's absolutely tipping down outside.

Joe's Childminder is taking him to the Christmas party at toddler group today, so he's got his elf tshirt and socks on - got to get the embarrassing outfits in while he's still too young to protest ;) :rotfl:

Glad the mmr is all forgotten Big Bird, hope it doesn't cause any side effects.

Aww bet he looks cute for the christmas party! We went to the baby and toddler group party yesterday and Poppy met Father Christmas for the first time, she looked at him a bit strangely haha.
  • Hi all,

Lo is 7 weeks tomorrow and I haven't managaed ot post since my last one since 5 weeks as I barely get a minute to myself lol.

Wondering if anyone has any advice - my baby hates his bouncy chair so he is constantly on is back, either in Moses basket or on playmat. I feel really guilty about it but have no idea what else I can do with him in the day!! I can't carry him round all the time and I'm going out of my tree being stuck to the sofa with him. During my pregnancy I spent a lot of time on the sofa and in bed so I was raring to go once I had him and I feel I'm still stuck sitting around :-( We do go for walks but it has been really windy and rainy so we don;t go out on days like this. Does anyone else keep leaving their baby in their basket during the day? I'm worried about his development.

I used to sometimes just put Poppy lying on her mat when she was that sort of age. She had a swing but wasn't massively keen and we didn't have a bouncy chair. If anything it has probably helped her as she rolled and crawled quite early
  • congrats ww, we starting using gripe water for samuel at 3 weeks, he needed to get that wind out lol he does nothing but bottom burp all the time and its soooo loud.
