Thanks Jennynoo. LO is only 14 weeks so not right for him yet.

Consultant suggested a bit of baby rice now to help with reflux. Seems so early but touch wood he took it ok today. Just giving a small bit once a day to get him used to it. Meds upped a little too.
  • Hello ladies, I should be joining you all in a couple of weeks. I am having a section 2 weeks today if all goes to plan and I just had a few questions for those of you who have had a section:

How long was it before you felt able to get up and move about independently?

How long did it take before you could lift baby up yourself?

How long is it before you can have a shower or bath after a section?

    TIA!

    Hi Wonder Womble,

I had an emergency C section at half 11 at night and was walking by mid afternoon the next day, not very fast though! I also could pick her up myself at that point. I had a shower the afternoon the next day , someone walked me there and i managed to walk back myself.

I didn't find it too bad although was a bit slow with everything for the first couple of weeks and definately a good excuse not to do any strenuous housework or exercise!

    Good luck!
  • That doesn't sound Wendz, I was worried I would have to have a sink wash fr 2 weeks or whatever until the wound healed. Is there not a risk of infection from getting water/ soap etc in the wound?

*delurks* (will also hopefully be joining in the not so distant future)

Wonder Womble, apparently recovery from Planned C Secs is alot easier, well that was the general consensus when a thread about C Secs v Vaginal Births, came around last time.

    Hi Gilly as well!

I think the wonds tend to heal pretty quick so am guessing is hard for them to get infected. I was told to take the dressing off in that first shower. I never had any problems with my wound anyway.

Also, are there any only children here? If so how do you feel about it? Did you enjoy it or longed to have a sibling?
Myself and my OH are both only children. I was lucky when I grew up as I had the best of both worlds. I had cousins that lived literally round the corner that were the same age as me and so they were like my brother and sister that I didn;t have to share my toys with!

The one thing I found hard about being an only child was holidays. I always had to make friends on holiday which was hard, but I did do it. I always thought it'd be better if I had a sibling. But when I got older my parents let me invite a friend with me on holiday (when I was about 14/15).

We're TTC now, DD is just over 9 months and we ideally want them fairly close in age, mainly because I don't want to be doing the first 6 months of the babies life in years to come! I sort of want it over and done with. I'm looking forward to being pregnant and can't wait to give birth again, but I'm dreading the first 4 weeks of the newborn's life! That was just horrendous and I remember how we said we'd never have anymore children. It's funny how you forget... :)

Our decision to have 2 kids is because we're both only children, our children won't have cousins! Strange eh? So aside from any friends we make, there is no family for them of a similar age.

  • wonder wombles, i echo what was said above, i had my emergency c section at half past one at night. i was up walking (very slowly and not very straight) but up none the less, had a shower that evening. to be honest the staff make you get up and moving the longer you leave it the harder it is and they need to get the cafiter out asap to stop the risk of infection.

just remeber they give you six weeks to recover because it does take that long, no lifting, no driving because of insurance(your not covered) take all the help you can get.

i didnt sleep in my own bed for about the first 4/5 nights simmply because i couldnt lay down properly i fount it much more comfy on the sofa propped up with pillows.

  • Thanks for the info and advice ladies. I'm proper bricking it about the section  I've had major surgery before but that was under a GA, I think it is the thought of being awake when they slice me, but in the same respect I don't want a GA - contrary or what :rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks Giz! I have very similiar thoughts...sounds a bit odd when you say about getting it over and done with but I agree! I love my boy more than I can describe but I'm not a huge fan of the early days!!

Rice seems to be helping so far...in fact the last bottle largely came up whereas the last time he had rice after there was def less sick :-)
