Do your parents have any hobbies or interests Becles? My Mum was a SAHM and then my Nan lived with us for a few years. Once she'd "retired" from looking after other people my Mum started going to some church groups and getting involved in other things - now she's never home! She fund-raises for the local hospice, runs a stall at church selling religious figurines, cards etc, organises the church over-50s club... My dad is always doing odd-jobs and decorating for friends. They are both in their mid-70s and I can't see either of them slowing down any time soon. So hopefully your parents will find another focus for their energies.

Hope you can sort out something for your Sons' trips.

I'm finding it hard to get motivated to work today :( My job is so boring. I wish I could find something else, but very much doubt I'd find anything else that would pay as well whilst allowing me to work flexible hours from home. I need to hurry up and win the lottery!

I think my parents just want to rest and potter about and catch up on all the jobs that never get done for the first few months of retirement. They're going to Goa for about 6 weeks in Jan/Feb. Not sure what their plans are after that, but hopefully they can find something to keep themselves busy.

Got some more info about the rugby trip and James is really keen to go. Will have to see what I can do, as I need two new back tyres for my car as well and a man stopped me in a car park to tell me he noticed one of my brake lights was off :o

I could do with winning the lottery as well Big Bird *fingers crossed*

Hope your job gets better soon. It demotivating when you're not happy at work *hugs*
Here I go again on my own....
  • Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. It's taken me a while to pluck up the courage to post as a first time parent.... Aidan is now 10 weeks old, doing well just gets a bit grizzly around 6pm, but I understand this is normal and lots if babies get upset around this time.
He seems to be fighting sleep - any tips?

I have had some success going back to swaddling him at that time of day, doesn't always work though.
    Thanks

Still swaddling my almost 5 month old lol. Tried to stop it and she woke her self up. Not sure im happy i started it now lol but at the time hey ho.

    Welcome to parenthood :)

    Thanks Almaya,
It's not his nappy or hunger as he only stays on the breast couple of mins, seems tiredness but he refuses to sleep...sometimes after a long cry and some singing, having him on my shoulder he will finally calm down, either sleep or want to eat, other times swaddling works... I guess it might stop in a few weeks, can't complain though as he's sleeping well and in eves mainly cries 6-7pm I know other parents have it worse! I have my fingers crossed he stays calm-ish like this...

could be a little trapped wind. I know Olivias used to build up in the day. My HV said breastfed babies didnt need to be winded. SIL found out the hardway that some do :).

  • Regarding winding - my LO is only 3 weeks old today and has really bad wind but I'm struggling to get it up. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I'm getting up 3 times a night as it is for feeds (Ok that's normal at this early stage) but then he won't settle as he is really windy. These feeds have now started taking up to an hour and a half and I'm delirious with tiredness.

I'm not sure if anyone can advise or help but I'd be grateful if people can reassure me I'm not alone and this phase will pass. I'm completely exhausted and starting to worry about PND coz I keep crying through the nights

It all started out so well but we seem to have gone wrong this week
Leo James arrived 7 days late on 26th August 2011 by emergency CS :j Such a cheeky chappy now :T

Claireloo - Between 2 weeks and about 12 weeks i struggled badly but baby had reflux too. I found a position that worked for me when little one has better head control is to sit them on my tummy and rock them back and forth pressue on tummy seems to bring it up..

Trust me i felt the same wondered what i had done. My baby changed at 2 weeks and i spent many a night pushing her back and forward. Time is a healer and it does get better but try and get someone to have baby for a couple of hours at your house while you sleep will honestly make it feel better.

God i know how hard it was then. Never thought i would get past it and i did. By 12 weeks baby was in her own cot waking up twice a night going straight back down after her feed.

    big hugs..
    xx

  • Thanks Alamaya, he calms down a bit when over my shoulder, and I do try to wind him but nothing comes up really. I will persevere with Dentinox, massages etc...

Claire - many congrats! I can empathise, Aidan was the same - he was also very sleepy feeding so would cry as soon as I put him back in the moses basket. I'd then spend another hour trying to get him to feed, think he just wanted to be held... He is 10 weeks now and I can tell you it seems like you won't get sleep but slowly you will. He will start to slowly sleep a little more and you'll get extra sleep - in the interim, get help as Almaya suggested, go to bed early as you can and eat well so you have energy for the night feeds.
Chin up we know what you're going through, you're doing great.

Hi Sparkle, I agree it might be wind, can't think of anything else right now i'm afraid.

Clairleloo - it will pass! I was up for a couple of hours sometimes feeding Poppy at night but now it's a quick feed and cuddle and shes back in her cot. I found the first few weeks so hard and i wondered what i had let myself in for but it does get easier.

I let Poppy self settle in her cot for first time last night. Up till now i have fed her to sleep or cuddled her to sleep. I put her in cot and went in twice when she started crying to cuddle her, then she had a little whinge and went to sleep.I was amazed! Will see if same happens tonight, we have had a bit of a lie in today so she may not want to go to sleep at a reasonable time.
