If your stitches are infected it might be that that is making you shiver and sweat. Did the consultant mention anti-bs? If not it's probably worth a visit to the DR to get it checked

I've been given some topical anti-b's that I have to insert inside me
Once the infection is cleared I have another consultation to assess what kind of surgery I need.

On a pleasant note DD slept from 9 pm thru to 6 am :T - she's only just 4 weeks today so I know it was a bit of a fluke - but it was bliss - feel like a new woman today.

Hi all, can I join please? I'm mum to 1 little boy (2) and a little girl nearly 5 weeks. I used to come on this thread but stopped after a few months of having my first as thread moved too quickly for me!!

Giz-have you tried swaddling? I bought a swaddle me blanket from TKMaxx for £5 and I find she sleeps longer spells and settles quicker. Also, I've bought a white noise cd called womb to world which settles her.

  • My DD is 13 months old this weekend and we've had a tough few days. She normally sleeps from about 9pm to 8am without much of a problem but the last 3 nights have been a nightmare. I suppose I'm just looking for some reassurance today on this and some other things that I am just not sure about any more.

When DD wakes in the night, DH can't bear to hear her cry. He rushes in, picks up straight up and cuddles her back to sleep. Last night he must have done this 15+ times over 2 hours but then every time he puts her back down in her cot, she woke up and wanted picking up again. Any ideas how we can overcome this? I've tried to explain not to pick her up so much but he just doesn't like to hear her cry.

Also, she is still having a bottle before bed and we were wondering whether we should still be sterilising her bottles as she is now on cows milk (although DH is convinced that this is what is making her unsettled at noght but she has slept fine after drinking it on other nights - personally I think her other teeth are finally ready for making an appearance especially her front top 2!). She won't drink her breakfast milk from a cup though but will happily drink it from a bottle on her own now despite having her lunch and tea juice drinks from a cup without any problems.

She eats well but I am a bit stuck what different things to give her for breakfast. I don't always have a lot of time in the morning to try different things but she must be fed up having the same things every day. She currently has the Heinz cereal made with cows milk, she wan't keen on the weetabix type cereal but not sure what else to try.

I am grateful for any advice anyone can pass on - apologies for the rambling post too!!

MV - yay for a good nights sleep - and he'll be absolutely fine sleeping through - it'll probably improve his concentration feeding in the morning if anything, now he's got a bigger tummy.

Giz, sounds like you're getting there, training daddy is sometimes harder than getting baby sorted - I forget just how much time I've spent over the last three years reading and talking to other mums, and I do forget that OH hasn't done that, so he just has less information to fall back on.

MI3, healing vibes for your poor stitches, hopefully getting the infection sorted will get everything back on an even keel.

Brednall - I stopped sterilising anything once mine got to the stage where they put things in their own mouths - not much point once they do that!
Re bedtimes, I think you need to sit down with OH and agree a strategy that you can both live with, it's no good both of you doing different things with her, whatever you choose to do, she'll just get confused. Can you look up a few different ways, and maybe print off the information so you can sit and read them together and decide what will work best for you?

Don't worry about giving her the same thing every day. Charlotte had Weetabix every day for years as she loved it. She currently has crunchy nut cornflakes most days at the moment. She's 3 now and just gets the cereal and the milk out and gets on with it, and she pours herself a drink too :D

Don't stick to baby cereals. They're really expensive. Just try different adult or children's cereals and see which ones she likes. Those mini variety packs are useful to trial which ones are best.

Also try finger food like toast or bagels or something like that.
Here I go again on my own....

Sometimes they will just settle themselves so it's occasionally worth waiting a bit to see if she will settle.

Erin has half a weetabix most mornings but we also have porridge in and if I have time I'll put some fruit in it. Her cousin has 1 weetabix, 1 piece of fruit and 1 piece of toast every morning - she loves eating!

Erin always gets really clingy when she is coming down with something or when teething. Can't give advice on bottles sorry.

Glad to hear MV and BP are getting checked up, hope it goes ok. I had one friend who had thrush in her breast but the first doctor she went to told her it wasn't possible and put her on a diet to increase her calorie intake! She ended up stopping breastfeeding and getting really stressed. She's now changed doctors - just wish I had been in contact with her sooner and been able to get her the right advice.

Welcome to the new people. I can't help with bottles and colic and all that but if anyone wants any information about attachment parenting (breastfeeding, co-sleeping and carrying baby in a sling) give me a shout. I'm a full time co-sleeper, we have a bedside cot which is useful although most of the time Erin is snuggled up with me. The cot does mean however that I can have her on the edge of the bed away from my OH so he gets a good nights sleep. When I'm annoyed with him I put her in the middle as she usually ends up kicking his head! I've also done baby sign language if anyone wants to know about that.

Found this website the other day: http://www.parentingscience.com/index.html It has some really interesting stuff. I've just been reading about praise - how you should praise the effort and not the ability. Finding it quite hard to put into practice though but Erin is still young so I've got a while to practice ;)

Jenny.. half!!!!!!! a weetabix?????? Freja is not yet 7 months and has 1.5 weetabix for breakfast with boob.. at 8 months DD2 had 3 weetabix with a slice of toast, yoghurt or 2, a banana and boob.. I am in awe of how she survives.. or do I have fatty piglets?

Brednall.. you don't need to sterilise anything from about the time they are grotting about on the floor putting toys in their mouth and fingers and feet and anything else they get their hands on.. so long as all cups etc that have had milk in are thoroughly cleaned they are fine. Baby cereals are probably not the best for her now she is bigger and are such a waste of money.. Mine sat in the highchair and had whatever everyone else had way before then.. shreddies, weetabix, toast etc followed by fruit and a yoghurt. They had a beaker with water or juice in, they never ever drank milk from anything other than me or a bottle. DD3 had no teeth at all until she was 12 months and then only 2 until about 16 months. I'd not recommend most childrens cereals as they are full of sugar but offer muesli or porridge or suchlike.. dish of cereal a spoon for you and a spoon for her and see how much you both get in.. it is incredibly messy but good fun!

DD1 (8 and a half) will eat a massive bowl of porridge and then want toast and a banana and she's rake thin. Also given the choice betweena huge selection of cereals will always choose that or bran flakes, she's also a salad fiend and moans if you give her chips.

    Twins quite the opposite lol

Squeak is only just 6 months and has baby cereal, only because OH bought it on offer lol it's not a long term thing.
