Thanks gilli, will definitely enjoy a wee rest but will still need to help my mum out. Have a few things to take down to my sister and the kids as well, so hopefully can get a hold of her.

Bought the new Sookie Stackhouse book this morning as The Book People are selling it for £4.99 and they do single item postage now. :j This is my treat as being paid on Friday. :)

Spent yesterday morning ironing and then went to the library before work and found a couple of books I've been wanting to read for ages - always a bonus at the library as was thinking of buying them. :j

OH's cc is coming down nicely and we are only £30 over the balance we were at before our jaunt to London. Really want to get rid of this cc and start saving properly for my laser eye surgery. Still need to go and get estimates for that so I know what I'm aiming to save. Thinking roughly about £1500 at the moment as my prescription is quite strong but it could be cheaper (and hopefully not any more!). I know it's a lot of money and could be paid off debt but long term it will make my life so much easier - and no more paying £100+ for glasses every two years!

Better go and have a bath and get organised for work.

Have spent the morning so far doing surveys and cleaning the bathroom. Feeling very drained after seven shifts so think I'll go and catch up with the first episode of The Apprentice as was working last night.

Will probably head out later to meet my mum and take a few things down to my sister. Need to try and get something for my brother's birthday at the weekend as well.

Feel like just going back to bed at the moment though.

Poor sock monkey still doesn't have a face so will try and do that later, would quite like to make my brother one as well. Once I get started it will be fine, it's just the getting started part that's the problem for me. :o

  • Which sookie book are you on? I got 10 of them for 9.99 from the book people! Am currently reading some books on my ereader tho so only on my third true blood one.

Re the knitting... I ordered the needles, patchwork is a good idea as then it won't be so easy to get bored and do it wrong? I don't know where this sudden need to craft has come from but I really fancy the idea of it!

If you have a good credit history then you can get free finance from laser eye surgery clinics; ignore what it says on their websites, if you are a bit savvy they will probably give you up to 3 years 0% interest.

    http://www.opticalexpress.co.uk/laser-eye-surgery/laser-eye-surgery-cost-and-finance-options.html

Depending on your prescription expect to be quoted about £1500 per eye; that might be twice what you were expecting BUT - and pay attention - the first quote they give you is complete bull-poo and they WILL drop the price by about a third. If you are patient they may even halve the price but don't expect them to just roll over and give you that kind of huge discount, it'll take a little bit of persistence.

Be aware that if you have a high prescription of over a 6.0 there is a distinct possibility of regression and your eyes will go back to the way they were after about 5 years (they don't tell you that at the clinic) and you should expect some level of regression after 10 years requiring you to wear glasses again.

Psycho, I've ordered the newest Sookie Stackhouse which I think is the 11th book. I got the first eight from the Book People a couple of years ago for about £8 and bought the next two when they came out.

Yes, that's my thinking behind the patchwork blanket, plus I can try and learn different stitches - still totally lost with purling though - finding it quite backwards just now. :o I'm just using different shades of blue and blue/green so the patches aren't too mismatched.

Cool_Mint, thanks for your post, I must admit I need to do more research. I have a terrible credit history at the moment so doubt I would get interest free. :( I'm due an eye test this month but my prescription at last test (2 years ago) was -5.5 so not looking good. :(

Didn't head out on Wednesday as was far too tired, just felt achey all over and ended up going back to bed for a couple of hours. :o

Went out shopping with my mum yesterday and bought myself a bag and a pair of jeans (high waisted and very comfy). My only excuse is that it's pay day today. :o

Took a few things down to my sister and the kids, the kids were funny as ever and the twins are speaking really well now. :) Was nice to see them and my oldest nephew (9) was amazed that I'd been to London. :rotfl:

Back to work today for another seven day slog, late shift today and tomorrow but hopefully early shifts next week (depending on roster).

Knitting stuff, I've done about 10 squares now, all in the same wool, but different patterns, so they should look OK joined together. I learned to knit when I was very small, and used to knit by sort of stabbing the right hand needle in, and then letting it go while I wrapped the wool, then carrying on. I was knitting in a cafe the other day and someone commented on my 'strange technique'. I'd never really noticed, but it must be because I was so little and the needles were so big, and so now I am really conscious of what I'm doing and its slowed me down.

I do find it very relaxing though.

Hi gilli, have been AWOL again. :p

I've only knitted one square so far, think I will use my chunkier needles to make it a bit quicker. Have been sock monkey making instead of knitting for the last wee while though as well. My current sock monkey is finished and will be starting the next one soon.

Speaking of knitting technique I think everyone has a different way of doing it! My friend is left handed and tucks one needle under her arm while she's knitting. :rotfl: Plus she casts on differently to me as we were taught different ways of doing it.

Still working away - have two more shifts then my long weekend. Really need to get exercising as have been very lazy and also had a Dominos pizza delivery tonight - two for Tuesday anyone?

Btw, realised the Sookie Stackhouse book I have is the 12th, not the 11th book in the series. Just finished The Book Thief from the library and it was excellent, would recommend it. :)

Have now finished work for five days. :j Planning on relaxing for most of the time off.

Going out tonight for OH's friend's birthday but just going for something to eat and some drinks so won't spend too much or be too late (hopefully). Thinking of starting my next sock monkey today - not that I procrastinate or anything...:o

On Saturday we need to get cat litter and am thinking of buying some cat grass to grow for the feline fiends as they are house cats. Also need to go to Makro for washing powder and fabric conditioner. We also have an Ikea voucher/offer for money off which expires on Sunday so need to go there as well but need to measure first etc. Hoping to get a new bookcase. :)

Not much else to report, money is looking okay for now and have managed to redeem points for a cheque from one of my survey panels. :T

Have been very bad at updating here lately. :o

Since I last posted I've had a promotion at work so have a set shift pattern now and a bit more money. :j:j Not bad as haven't been in the job a year yet.

We've managed to get the Capital One cc just under the balance it was before London and hoping to get rid of it asap.

In bad news my eyesight has got worse again (had an eye test) and needed new glasses. OH also needed glasses, so we spent a scary £264 between us. Have already reduced the balance to £190 though and will be able to get £120 back through a health scheme I get through my job. So only got to find £70 to get rid of that balance.

I've nearly finished the sock monkey I'm doing for my friend - only mouth and eyes to go, although she does want a ginger beard for him and an outfit which I haven't even looked at yet. :rotfl:

We got a small bookcase for the living room with our Ikea voucher and it was basically half price. Looking for another smaller one for the other room so we can get rid of the knackered large one.

Other bad news is that I've definitely put on weight and have been avoiding exercise. :o My mum made me weigh myself on her Wii Fit and I was scared by how much weight I'd put on. Even my mum was surprised and said she wouldn't have thought that was my weight. :o So, need to start the exercise again and keep it up. Work have sent out pedometers as well, so will have a go with that.
