Sashybo - Stray thoughts amongst the wilderness of debt

Have been very bad at updating my diary for the last while.

Got back from London and seeing OH's parents on Friday morning. Had a good time in London and the weather was lovely, looking forward to having a weekend away down there at some point later in the year. OH's parents are about an hour and a half away from London so we stayed there a couple of nights as well. Wasn't too bad, think I was just more relaxed though as usually feel quite tense with them.
Got home to grumpy feline fiends and a mountain of washing.
Bought a new pepper mill and work trousers for OH on Friday but were all paid for with vouchers. :j Have just under £70 of Amazon vouchers saved now towards a new vacuum.
Received my £40 from Onepoll so now have £90-odd towards laser eye surgery as well. :j
Back to work tomorrow for two shifts then off for two days. My mum is going in for an operation so will be picking her up on Wednesday and making sure she has everything she needs. Recovery likely to be up to 6 weeks though. :eek:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,345, Car loan CC 0% BT £4900. Thanks gilli, my mum was surprisingly bright when I picked her up the morning after her op but was having some pain after a few days. She was also allergic to the nickel in the staples used on her wounds. She is still quite tired but getting on nicely. Going round to help her with the housework in a bit.
Have been having a bit of a break from the site and the computer for the last few weeks. So not been as good as I should have about padding etc. Our hotel bill in London was put on the cc but have already paid more than half of it off again.
OH has sold a few things on Ebay so we are putting half towards the cost of our new Dyson (now ordered - paid £80 in vouchers and the rest with Ebay money :j) and the rest will be paid off the Capital One cc.
Started a new sock monkey yesterday after a long break, promised my friend's 9yo boy one some time ago and have never got round to it.
Just need to sew on the ears and do the face and he's done though, so can head off to his new home relatively soon.
Also have a commission from another friend who wants a sock monkey in a kilt to take with her to her brother's wedding. :rotfl:
Have also decided to practice my knitting by knitting squares and can eventually sew them up into a blanket. This is a bit less demanding than cushion covers and means I can learn different styles of knitting (hopefully).
OH's Ebay sales meant a lovely wait for me in the queue from hell in the post office. He pays his parcels online through Paypal but still need the Post Office to stamp the certificate of posting etc. The queue was out of the door but did move relatively fast, thankfully. Headed to Farmfoods after that to get some dinners for work as back on late shifts from tomorrow, got some good deals from there.
Spent yesterday ironing, washing and cleaning the bathroom, then sewing my sock monkey. OH was off on a jaunt (involving the pub) with his friend. :cool:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,345, Car loan CC 0% BT £4900. I've got back into knitting too, but was a bit nervous as its so long since I made anything so I just did squares - well square-ish. If you just do them as 6 inch squares, 9 will make a cushion cover. Or there is a thread on OS about giving them to charity and they make them up into stuff.
I've done a variety of stitches on mine too, just to remind myself.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Thanks gilli, my first square so far is quite small but finished it last night. Was trying to teach myself how to purl last night and am confused! It's like learning to knit backwards.
:rotfl:
Will try to sew the sock monkey's ears on today before work as back for another seven days. *sob*
Helped my mum clear out part of her kitchen yesterday as she's getting a new one put in soon. Also got plenty of sitting in the sun done as well though.
Thinking of going up to Inverness for a weekend in June with my mum (and sister if she wants to come, but doubt she will). So we were looking for somewhere fairly cheap to stay yesterday. Have never been before, so would be a nice short break.

Well not much to add today - got one monkey ear sewn on yesterday so will try and get the second one done in a bit. Need to head to the post office before work with another of OH's ebay parcels.
Our new Dyson arrived yesterday and so far is very good. :j OH is very pleased with it - mostly because the hoovering is his job.
Apparently the feline fiends don't like it and were running away when OH moved it (not switched on) to show me. :rotfl:
Money a bit tight just now but I will be paid in a week so just have to be careful with what we have. Will probably only need some top-up shopping but have noticed that we seem to be spending a lot on food so will have to try and sort that out.
Will need to head to Makro soonish for a few things we buy in bulk and can store in our limited space (toilet roll, washing powder etc).Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Got the other monkey ear sewn on and the mouth pinned on ready to sew yesterday. Won't have time to do it before work today, maybe tomorrow though.
OH wants to save up our next lot of vouchers for a new microwave. Our current one has been with us for about 6 or 7 years and belonged to friends for a couple of years before that. So think it needs replacing soon as it's chugging a bit.
Not got much to report, quite tired from work and just plodding on really. Looking forward to getting paid though as should have some extra money from working 2 of the bank holidays recently.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Hi Sashybo,
Hows tricks? I've sloping back on here, just been very very busy and then had our honeymoon so had one of those months where we had the excuse of "it's a once in a lifetime holiday...".
Trying to catch us with diaries etc - hows you mum doing?
Coincedently, our oven has also gone blowing up our electrics half way through my Six week six pack DVD
We are hoping it's just the element too, although when we mentioned that our oven was a cheap Candy one the person who had said they would fit it rolled their eyes and said "oh well there's no chance you'll fix it"... which is a bit worrying!! NSD -5/20

Hi sazzle, things aren't too bad thanks.
My mum is doing okay, still in a bit of pain and has a bit of a stomach bug as well though.
Sorry to hear about the oven - hope it can be fixed! I've been very lazy with the exercise but really need to get back to it - six week six pack sounds a bit scary though. Thinking about making OH go swimming once a week so we're at least doing some exercise. Only problem is swimming always makes me starving and I want to eat chips afterwards.
My poor sock monkey still doesn't have his mouth sewn on. Will get there eventually.
Only three more shifts to go then have two days off. :j Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,345, Car loan CC 0% BT £4900. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.0 -
