sarymclary wrote: »Well I was having a good day yesterday, meals were all planned, and then OH looked all forlorn when I said we were having chicken, salad & jacket spuds for tea. 'why can't we have lasagne or pasta bake anymore, I really love them?' he says. I felt guilty, because I know they won't like the SW versions of these, and I don't have the ingredients in store for the low fat cheese sauce
So, I've learned the lesson to not allow other's cravings for foods to affect my day's plan. The problem was there wasn't enough chicken to keep a fillet back for me to have one to myself with a spud & salad, and do the pasta bake for the rest of the family. If I'd only had jacket spud and salad, I'd have been stuck with just beans to put on it, and there wouldn't have been enough balance in the meal really.
Knock knock, anybody home? Don't be so hard on yourselfYou absolutely don't have to cook different meals for you than for the rest of your family. Well done on the HM recipe, but if your OH really likes the homepride ones then why not have one occasionally? A quick look on minimins says they are about 20 syns for the jar, well when split between 3/4 the syns are easily do-able, especially if you give him the monster portion and you a more reasonable one with a lovely crisp salad served with it *mmm goes off into pasta bake dreamland*
And don't they do low fat versions? Which would be less anyway. When I make one with a jar of sauce, I half and half the sauce with passatta and freeze the other half, therefore halving the syns in the dish. If you think your family would notice this you could always try 1/4 pasatta to begin with, and sloooowly add in a bit more each time you cook itI know there are plenty of crafty SW cooks on here who would help out with more tips like this
For the lasagne, again, a jar, or a packet of white sauce for the topping isn't the end of the world when split between you, if thats what it takes to keep everyone happy. Most people can't tell the difference for the tomato sauce inside, if you make it with passatta, some herbs, a pinch of sugar and seasoning, and even a blob of tomato puree if you fancy. If the syns are still too high for your liking try just putting less of the white sauce on. Try itCan someone confirm for me that I'm ok to have double the meat allowance and use 2 HEBs? I'm not sure if I'm meant to have 2 different ones or if it's ok.
Yep, don't think there is any rule against it, as long as over the course of the week/month you are getting a good variety of B choices.
Re the spray oil - I use a branded olive oil bought from the likes of tesco/sainsburys which was just on the supermarket shelf in a spray bottle packet - the brand name escapes me at the moment but its one of the recognisable ones. £2.29 from memory I think - not the best value for amount of oil in it, but its lasted me yonks. It doesn't spray very widely - more like a straight spurt, much like the fry light goes - but at least I can control how much I use, and I tend to get a clean finger and wipe it around the pan before its hot, if you know what I mean.Nothing tastes as good as riding a horse feels0 -
MrsM - are you sure those Wii figures are right? A treadmill doesn't burn 450 calories in 30 minutes...Whatever doesn't kill me, can only make me stronger.

ooh another good idea - I might let OH have his homepride sometimes but split it with a tin of tomatoes! *rubs hands together like an evil genuis!*
GREEN day for me today:
Banana and apple
Tea with milk (1/2 HEA1)
Lunch will be leftover veg curry from last night (which was lush and syn free!)
Dinner is homemade pizzas!
I have no idea how much dough I will need or how much of a HEB it will end up resulting in, but I'm going to pay it by ear. I'll part-bake my base and then weigh it to work out the HEB amount before putting the toppings on. I'm allowing both HEBs just in case!
toppings will be - tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, mixed herbs, small amount of ricotta cheese (2 syns) low fat cheddar (HEA2) courgette, red peppers, red onion, and spinach.
OH is having ham, olive oil and full fat cheese on his to 'beef it up' but seems to have no problem with the wholemeal base which is good
trying to keep my syns really low at the mo to make up for 2 days of going over limit earlier in the week. Yesterday i managed 2.5 and I'm going to try to stick to 5 or under today and tomorrow. It's my birthday on Sat so will definately be needing a Flexisyn day!!!Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....
Why Put Off Until Tomorrow What You Can Do Today? :A0 -

Think I'm going green tomorrow with some hasbrowns for breakfast that i found on the minimins forum!
Hi ruby, I'd be grateful if you'd share the hash browns recipe. I'm doing a 'fry up' for tea tomorrow and they might be nice to do with it.
I'm going EE today as we're at OH's parents for tea tonight which as usual is bound to be atleast a bit naughty!!
Brekkie - porridge (HEA&B), apple
Lunch - lettuce, toms, cucumber, pickled cabbage, batchelors savoury rice, turkey, jelly (0.5)
Tea - ?????
DOes anyone know how many syns are in batchelors savoury rice? I've got about a third of a packet of the golden flavour one.0 -
I would also like the hash browns recipe please!
As well as the Chinese Pork one MrsM if that's okWhatever doesn't kill me, can only make me stronger.

Thanks guys, I'm so chuffed! I have worked blooming hard this last few days!
Haven't been on her much, haven't had much time to write out me food etc, will try ans make more of an effort, I have just been so tired.
My 20 month old fell over and bashed his mouth on Tuesday morning, it's knocked his front tooth right back and out of place, then yesterday he woke up looking like the elephant man, so as you can imagine there have been lots of tears and not much sleep!0 -
Also - Wednesday nights treat needs to stop. I had nuggets and chips from the chip shop last night and a piece of chilli chocolate, worked out I had 45 syns last night. That leaves me 60 for the rest of the week so 10 each day, but I don't want to use them all as I want to get my Xmas gain off as soon as possible. Aiming for 5 each day, meaning I've already used todays! Grrr, gym tonight
I hate quoting myself but can anyone confirm that this is actually the way it works? As in, because I had loads of syns one day is it ok to just take that amount off the weekly total (105-45=60) and then spread the remainder out?Whatever doesn't kill me, can only make me stronger.

Nope - the week before Xmas I gained 4lbs, Xmas week I lost 1.5lbs, first week of new year (yesterday) gained 2.5lbs.
Total holiday season gain of 5lbs. Overall total loss since end of July - 3 stone 6lbs (48lbs).
Just found out that Kingsmill 50/50 doesn't count as a HEB, which is annoying. So I've synned my two slices for breakfast as 5 syns and still need to eat a HEB. On the plus side that means I can have bread with my dinner, but still annoying as I don't want to eat any more bread!
I assume you mean 5 syns per slice? I occasionally have that bread and that's what I count. It's a shame it's not a HEB as I love it, although in a way I'm glad as I'd end up eating more bread then and it doesn't really agree with me!!0 -

Posting now as I won't have time tonight as I'm going out. I'm having meal out in La Tasca and I'm not sure of their syns. Everything I'm having is syn free on a Green day, but obviously I need to allow for the oil that it will be cooked in. I'm planning on having patas bravas (sauted pots in spicy tom sauce), veggie paella, spanish omelette and salad. So lots of veggies. I have 23 syns 'saved' plus all of todays so I think I'll be ok.
Green day:
B - oats (HEB), FF yog
L - HM SF carrot & coriander soup
D - La Tasca meal (approc 30syns?)
Snacks - HB egg, cheese (HEA + HEB), banana, pear, apple, clementine
Drinks - water, coffee (skimmed milk HEA), soda water
Exercise - 30mins DVD
Total syns - 30?
